What a fun place! We've been meaning to stop by and check it out for years, mostly out of curiosity of what a popcorn shop would be. Turns out, it's walls loaded with buckets stocked with custom crafted popcorn! I'll admit it doesn't look all that impressive when you walk in, as the product is stored in large, translucent plastic bins. Additionally, the extensive selection is a little daunting as you're not sure where to start! However, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and are happy to provide you with unlimited samples. Some are savory, some are sweet, some are surprisingly tasty, and some are downright weird (cilantro?!). The experience was unique, and we definitely had a good time. In the end, all four of us walked out with a medium/large bag each with 2-3 flavors. Caramel apple and the trifecta were my two favs! read more

Sadly I didn't even get to try the popcorn, so I can't speak to that at all. Went in. Three people ahead of me in the store. All being helped by workers. Cool. No problem. I'll just wait. There isn't an obvious place to wait "in line" so I kinda just hung back far enough to be sure they knew I wasn't with any of the people being helped. No one said anything to me. Fine. I'll just keep waiting. Someone comes in behind me. They say hi to her. Weird. Whatever. I'll just keep waiting. Waiting. Waiting. After 10 minutes of waiting, line not moving and no communication from anyone (even though there were at least two other people in the back that periodically popped out), I thought, na, I'm good without your popcorn. So I was turned onto them by my cousin. We drove from North Liberty to go to the shop. The popcorn selection is wonderful and the wide verity is awesome. You can taste all the different flavors. We bought 5 different flavors, we will be using them for xmas gifts this year. read more

If you are wanting seemingly any type of popcorn, this is your place to go! With 90+ flavors, and either a store policy or just nice staff who will let you taste-test them all, you will no leave without a flavor you know you enjoy! Prices are fair for the product and the different sizes seem to last longer than one would expect. Also, the flavor of the week promotion is a great idea!!! The popcorn is good, but this review is about the service more than the food. Downright AWFUL!! We were served by two very rude women, both who stared at my mother and I like we were serial killers. It was wild?? They refused to say more than a few words, were very odd and obviously wanted us out of their store. This place is amazing! Have stopped in multiple times and they are friendly, responsive and give you free samples to try out the flavors before you buy. The prices are very reasonable and if you look around at gourmet popcorn prices they beat them all! Their movie theater butter flavor tastes just like you're at the theater! Also check out the zebra flavor with caramel, white chocolate and milk chocolate. I highly recommend The Savory Kernel for anyone who loves popcorn and wants delicious snacks! Amazing choice of flavors and great service. My complaint is that it wasn't very clean. The floors had a layer of dust popcorn spilled on them and the counters hadn't been cleaned in awhile. There were greasy fingerprints left from customers, kernels of popcorn left from previous people sampling and dust on all the counters. read more

Wonderful popcorn. Their cheese popcorn is the best I've ever had. I would give 5 stars but the cost is out-of-line. I bought a large bag of cheese popcorn and a medium-large bag of the bacon-flavored popcorn for a total cost of $25! That's too bad because I would certainly like to buy more! But at those prices, you have to think twice. read more
