This a review for the Improv Classes only. This is my story. I signed up for the Improv 101…read moreclasses. This was all new to me. Thought it would be fun. I live in the rural area outside of Minneapolis, so I drove 40 minutes to enjoy fun and create comedy with other non-comedy people. Other average people. Not what happened. Let me explain... This is all new to me. So, during one of the warm-up exercises. It was the one-word poem exercise. Sounds cool. The fours words leading up to me, were, "The"..."Cows"... "Were"... "Making"... Which then left me to think up a word that kept the poem alive... I picked the word "Whoopie". The room stopped. 3 to 4 people in the group, which told me that the word Whoopie was inappropriate, and I needed to change the word choice right away. They all had urgency in their voices... I was taken aback... What? My word "Whoopie" caused you to stop everything? I was only doing what felt natural. I was told by 4 people that my improv was wrong. I needed to change my word choice. WTF? Really? Whoopie? Woke people are everywhere. They stand and make you feel shamed into thinking just like them. No more free expression. All this shaming because of the word Whoopie? If you're thinking of taking Improv classes at Comedy Sportz. Read what I've experienced and go if you want. I'm totally off this group. Nothing personal Comedy S, your people are too judgmental of everyone outside their circle. I said the word, WHOOPIE? REALLY? Unfortunately, people who didn't realize the importance of the history of this seminal musical group. I was astonished by the audience, not understanding the importance of this musical genre. I was moving to the music, although it appeared that this section of Minnesota was not interested in this musical quality of the artist. And people around me were Minnesota'nice'. I understand what Minnesota nice is : ambivalence and lack of respect, for anyone is not in 'their' group!

That said, if you like live music as I do), this place needs to be on your list to check out. Back in June, I attended a Prince tribute performance (Nothing Compares 2P) here and neither the venue nor the music disappointed. The layout is great; starting with an elevated staged and just below that is a dance floor and beyond that area is seating (tables/chairs). There are great views of the stage from mostly anywhere in the space and most importantly, the sound system was on point. Because of demand, for this performance, the dance floor was converted to seating and while understandable, other than in your seat, it made dancing virtually nonexistent. So much so that if someone stood up to dance at their table, the staff working the event would quickly swoop in ask them to be seated so as not to block the view of the people behind them. While relatively large, there is a single bar which was well-stocked and staffed when I was there. I am not sure if it the norm, but on the night I was there they had a $20 minimum for credit card use. Also, the only water they were serving was bottled (no cups of water) so be mindful of that. While this was my first visit to the Minnesota Music Café, it won't be the last. I will gladly return here for future performances.

And then, it's a short walk across the parking lot to 11 Wells for more history, samples of their spirits and explanation of rhe distilling process. And a game of trivia!
