Hotel I was in the area for work and had an early flight out so chose this hotel as it was closer to the airport and had never been in downtown Louisville before. The price was right so I booked a one-night stay and headed over. This is an old school hotel - tons of marble / granite and built in a style you just do not see anymore. Plenty of history in the building to familiarize yourself with, if that is your thing. Parking to check in was a bit daunting as the area is not really car friendly - I dropped my car in a lot next to the hotel, which is apparently not part of the hotel, as I learned at check in. The Seelbach lot is around the corner and down an alley - sort of like something out of a gangster movie - it was not the most welcoming lot to say the least, but it was large and patrolled by security. Check in was handled well- the two folks working the desk were extremely helpful and answered all my questions patiently. They also directed me to the hidden parking garage and gave me some directions on how to find the room. Elevators are from another era - small but efficient. Got me to the floor I was on and I managed to find my room after a little back and forth - this place is laid out with a lot of twists and turns and signage is not the greatest. A worker happened by and got me pointed in the right direction. The room was definitely small- but cozy. Again, something from a bygone era. Bed was fine enough and the tiny bathroom had a decent sized tub/shower that had plenty of hot water. Wifi worked well - especially since I was at the end of a long hallway. Really no major complaints overall and definitely worth a visit even if only to look around at hotels used to be. Would use again if in the area read more

What a marvelous hotel! The history alone is intriguing! Hilton has done a fabulous job of preserving the historic features of this beauty along with the necessary modernizations. The highlight of our stay was visiting with the award-winning of Tik Tok fame, Patrick from security! He is delightful. We enjoyed exploring the hotel on our own and even visited the 8th floor. There was definitely a heaviness there as well as the top ballroom floor. My photos show blue hues in several places much to my delight! A suggestion is to place placards on the breakfast bar to show where the light fare choices start and keep the coffee flowing :) We will be back!! read more

We were downtown at 4th Street Live and on a whim decided to get a room even though we are locals. The hotel has great old world charm. We were there a couple days before Christmas so not exactly peak time, but the room price was good. $130 advertised but with Hilton Points we paid about $25. They had a breakfast buffet for about $22 a person and it was also good. The grand stair makes for a great photo. Overall we had a great experience read more

I was traveling for work, and decided to stay at the Seelbach as it was pretty comparable in price to some other local hotels. The pictures made it look really interesting, and it was good for a one night stay. Even if you don't stay here, I highly recommend walking in looking around the property and trying to find the speakeasy in the basement. The art architecture, and history of the building is really unique. The room was pretty comfy. You could tell it was somewhat updated, but still had the old school flair. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. My main issue was with the noise levels. Unfortunately, my room was just across the hallway from the elevators, and you could hear everything in the door. If people were talking outside, I could hear their full conversation. It would be nice if the hotel supplied noise machines for light sleepers, as I've gotten in hotels in the past. Overall, I don't feel like I have to come back and stay here again, but it was cool to spend one night there read more

Built during the Gilded Age this hotel is a real gem. I love all the detail that went into restoring her. The history is so interesting. The actual rooms are nicely appointed and have modern amenities. On the small size but we don't stay in the room except to sleep. 99% of the staff I encountered and engaged with were awesome. Only 1 bad apple was less than helpful. Location is close to many attractions and within a mile of some fantastic restaurants. Valet service was efficient and housekeeping were so friendly. Would have loved to get a tour of all the historic rooms ( Oak room, ballroom, etc) but " bad apple" was less than accommodating. I will not deduct any stars for this one off as all the others were outstanding. If you are in the area I highly recommend staying here. read more

WOW!!! What an amazing place right in downtown. Beautiful building and rooms are amazing. They care about their guests. They sent a text after we checked in to welcome us and see if we needed anything. We were out of conditioner and they brought to our room within 5 minutes of me sending a text. So prompt!! One thing disappointing was the breakfast was not free for the guests. Also, they only had oatmeal for a vegan option. So we didn't eat there. read more

Let me preface this by saying I travel for work almost 3 weeks out of every month. This hotel is outrageously expensive for what it is. The rooms are so old and outdated. Nothing has been updated in over 20 years. There's a damp moldy smell in the rooms. And you feel like the elevators are going to break at any moment for more than $400 a night I expect so much more. This is a hard hotel to rate because the hotel itself was nice. We stayed on the top floor, a corner room, that was nicely appointed and spacious. The bathroom was very small and needed some refreshing - the wallpaper was coming up at the seams, there were areas of mildew that could be bleached, the toilet handle was loose, the conditioner was empty, etc. The beds were comfortable but really wish they had double queens instead of full beds to accommodate us two adults and our two children. The hotel is pet friendly and we traveled with our puppy. The TV was cable only, no streaming, which suited our needs just fine. The default channel tells the interesting history of the hotel. There were two "levels" of breakfast buffet available but it was not included in the room rate (which I feel it should be), so we opted to dine at Wild Swann in the Grady downtown each day of our stay. It was less expensive, you got to order what you wanted, and better quality food. The hotel was very well insulated against noises outside, but you could hear everything inside. Unfortunately, there were a few party guests in rooms on our floor that created disturbances all night long Sat. We did call the front desk and hotel security promptly responded and they quieted down for about 20 minutes and then picked up again until after midnight. Thankfully it seemed we were the only guests that remained on our floor for the rest of our stay. My biggest complaint though is the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. There were so many cars/motorcycles/slingshots ripping down streets blaring music and an immense number of homeless drug addicts/mentally ill people surrounding the hotel. It felt incredibly unsafe to be walking with our young kids or puppy to take her out to the nice park that was nearby. I did not see any hotel security outside at any point of our stay nor any Louisville police on patrol to ensure safety of hotel guests. Many of the restaurants nearby had closed down or had less than ideal ratings/food quality. If we were to return, I would likely stay at The Grady, another Hilton property that was downtown (in a safer area). read more

Room was nice and clean but I'll say the bathroom is smallish and may not work for everyone. Other than that it all works great. Saturday night is apparently wedding night and the 9th floor caught the late night party - like 2:30ish AM. Is what it is. Good place in the heart of the city. read more

The front desk service is lacking. They couldn't grasp that I had two rooms for myself and my guests that had different durations. They checked on room out early while we were out of the room. This is an upscale hotel with bad convenience store stuff in that shop. They don't even have an espresso machine. HGI marketplace has better options! We just held our wedding at the Seelbach Grand Ballroom and it was commented on multiple times throughout the night to be one of the best weddings guests had ever been to. This is in large part because of the incredible history of the hotel that kept our guests intrigued and entertained in the day leading up to the wedding, the perfect location of the hotel right off 4th Street, the incredible staff that served us both in the Old Seelbach Bar, during the cocktail hour, and during the reception, and finally, the flexibility that Taylor and her staff had to make the weekend EXACTLY what we wished for. Cannot say thank you enough for all the many details done to make it perfect for the entire wedding guest list (including bride and groom!). read more

Staying at the The Seelbach Hilton Louisville downtown. It's beautiful. Just a note that you can't get in the back entrance without a card or app Hilton App checkin. There was a speaker button but it didn't seem to work. I had to walk around and go in the front. If you valet, it wouldn't really be a problem. I stayed in Room 634 that had a King Bed. I thought the room was classic and beautiful. The bed was comfy and loved those pillows. I even looked at the tag thinking I would love these on my bed. Bathroom had a tub with shower, and tile flooring. Carpeted room with desk, sitting chair, closet, night stand, and dresser. I would add the TV could use updating. Some downsides are I had issue with the Wi-Fi which was really annoying. It kept disconnecting and I would have reconnect many, many times during the stay. Also, my room was a connecting room and was divided by double doors. The guest in the room next to me has set an alarm at 6:30am and let it go for 13 minutes. It was ridiculous. I was planning on sleeping in and that was a rude awakening. Breakfast was good. Diamond and Gold members can dine in the concierge lounge on the 7th floor. That was fun and great service! Shout out to Ronza! She was great. They had the traditional items such as cereals, bagels, muffins, eggs, potatoes, sausage, and bacon. The also had a variety of soft drinks, justices, and coffee's. I did ask for a late checkout since it is my last day. The hotel was able to offer a noon time (11am usually), but Diamond member can typically go to 1 or even 2 based on the property. That was fine but I will also add that checkin is a late in at 4pm. I was able to get in early as I did the pre-checkin and room selection before arrival and the app notifies you when your room is ready. I recommend this option if wanting to get in early. The hotel is gorgeous so make sure to check it all out. Don't forget about the lower level and the Rathskeller too. I got to sneak a peak inside. Overall a nice stay and a beautiful historic hotel full of charm. There was nothing memorable about the front desk and was disappointed with the interactions being a "luxury" hotel. Upon getting parking, water, and a back up physical room keys I felt like I wasn't welcomed there and an annoyance. Not so much as a thank you for staying or being a Hilton Honors member, etc. I will say other experiences like with Virginia (with guest services) and Ronda were exceptional. I am also a fan of the digital key from the app was great here for all access, you need a card for doors and elevators, bathroom, and such. All in all a good stay in a beautiful hotel. Here's the thing. I'm from Louisville. Louisville has a couple of historic hotels that have existed in this city for a long time, and Louisvillians tend to have some weird feeling of nostalgia for them, despite most of us having never stayed at any of them. The Seelbach is one of those hotels. I had to travel to Louisville for work recently, and I decided to stay at the Seelbach. My excitement quickly turned into "Oh dear" when I got into the room. Before I go into the negatives, I'll say that the hotel is clean. No complaints at all there. The staff have also been accommodating, and the location is great. But where the Seelbach falls short - the rooms are tiny. There is a musty, unpleasant odor that comes from the drains in the bathroom, the furniture in the room is old and kinda rickety, and the toilet tissue might actually qualify to be medium grade sandpaper. And then I remembered something... The Seelbach is owned by Musselman Hotels. Back when I was in college, I worked for Musselman Hotels. I worked for them for 4 years, and lemme say that it is in no way a surprise that this hotel feels as cheap as it does. If you're looking for a hotel in downtown Louisville, I would stay almost anywhere else. If you do choose to stay at the Seelbach, you won't hate it, but you won't really love it either. You will likely be underwhelmed. read more

I was in a beautiful wedding here recently and stayed on property for the weekend as well. We had a mostly positive experience. The historic building is beautiful and has been maintained very well, incorporating updates where necessary without compromising the history of the property. The bar off the lobby is lovely with good food and drink options. Valet, security, and front desk staff were all polite and as helpful as they could be, though it was clear they are very understaffed (not uncommon these days especially in the hospitality industry). The event team was fantastic, with everything related to the wedding festivities set up on time and executed well. The main issues we had were unrelated to the special events but issues with staying here in general - 1) took over 45 mins past checkin time to get our rooms and 2) note that valet parking results in your car being parked overnight in an uncovered surface lot a block away in a reasonably unsafe area. read more

I went to this hotel many moons ago and the charm and old school style is still in place. Gorgeous and slightly palatial this place kinda rocks. Today when I went in I was passed by this dude I thought was the concierge and it turned out to just be the valet. Well, actually he was more than just a valet. He kinda WAS a concierge. At least for me anyway. This "review" Is actually about Joseph the valet because he helped a traveller find exactly what he needed and I just want him and everyone to know how much I appreciated his helpfulness and how well informed he was. When you're the person who doesn't know where you are, a person like that becomes a real find. So thanks Joseph and thanks to the Seelbach, a place you oughta go visit just to tap into some good old fashioned Louisville history. read more

BEAUTIFUL hotel! Aesthetically this place is top notch, but with the history and age comes some lack of modern luxuries; a fair trade off for the structure and architecture tho. The overnight parking garage is not truck friendly, only small sedans can fit under the clearance bar! There is an open lot for larger vehicles also- do not pre pay for overnight parking until you know where your vehicle will fit. Narrow doorways and elevators, some rooms don't have any counter space in the bathroom (we had a 1Q room). Beds are comfortable and the hotel is easy to navigate. Doormen are lovely and open the door for all entering and exiting guests- a nice touch! The bar inside is great! Amazing gym with a ton of equipment- far better than most hotel gyms! The lobby of the hotel is stunning, once you can finally safely make it inside. Getting to the Seelbach is a maze of one way streets, and driving around lots of blocks to get into the valet parking line. By the way, valet is $30, self park is $25. It's added on to your bill, only your tip to the valet is in cash. As far as the rooms go, very comfortable beds, and although I knew the hotel was very old, I really didn't expect the rooms to "smell" so dated. New pillows would most certainly help!! I know it's supposed to be a haunted hotel, but, I believe I just smelled old. No haunt, although parts did look creepy. I felt nothing paranormal, and never felt paranoid from anxiety either. During my stay last night there was a wedding party, a class reunion, and something else. The hotel was too busy for us to enjoy anything there. I was there to celebrate my daughter's college graduation with her, albeit late celebrating due to Covid, and I'm positive that I won't stay again. After the outside and main lobby, I don't have anything good to say about our accommodations. We arrived an hour after we could check in and the room wasn't ready so they offered us a different one and the thing is TINY. The bathroom is the size of two Porto potties and it was not in good shape. Mildew on the shower tiles and melted burn marks on the toilet seat from someone who probably tried and failed to make the best of the tiny bathroom situation while getting ready. The towels appeared clean but smelled like baby spit up. Breakfast isn't included, which I was already aware of but it's a buffet in the attached restaurant and the price is $20 per person. If this was a two star hotel and it was cheap I probably wouldn't complain or bother to type a review. However we paid over $200 to stay here for 1 night and this is what we got. There are lots of other hotels in Louisville. If you're having a special outing like we were, I recommend them instead. read more

PARKING They have self-parking for $25 or you could wait 30 minutes on the short-staffed (?) valet for what I believe is $30. We waited on our car for what felt like forever for check in and check out ~ I don't recommend valet. II. SERVICE No complaints.. other than the valet III. QUALITY The lobby is gorgeous. The wedding venue was also beautiful, so they're great for events. But if I had known how outdated, musty, and smelly the rooms were, I probably would have chosen a different hotel to spend the night in. The stars I raked in for this review purely contributed to the event and not the stay.. IV. CAPACITY The hotel seems to run a lot of events. There is like one bar on fourth street and a couple restaurants, not really a lot to do. Our keys worked one time to get into the room and then stopped working completely. Had to run back and forth to the front desk trying to fix it, then they told us to call a number to get maintenance to fix it. Not what I want to be doing after a long day of driving. A wonderful historic hotel in the heart of downtown. Supposed ghosts here too. Now with a historic hotel, you don't expect a huge bathroom, and that is true here. You couldn't swing a mouse in the bathroom, never mind a cat. But the bed is comfortable, and it's relatively quiet. Wonderful bar off the lobby, which has a huge, and I mean HUGE bourbon selection. This old 1905 hotel is a gem. I truly loved staying here. My room was a bit smaller than expected, but the appointment was fine, and the bed super comfy. The place is beautiful; be sure to get to the rathskeller to see the Rookwood pottery. It is beautiful. Be sure to rub the beak of one of the pelicans for good luck. I know I did. I hope my travels bring me back to central Louisville so I can stay there again. So after making a quick reservation on the phone about ten miles south of Louisville, late one night we rolled into town and pulled right up to the Seelbach. The entrance is grand and we received a warm welcome. There is a mini museum area behind the front desk and after dropping my luggage in my room I roamed around the hotel. There are tons of stairwells and hallways and it was like a sophisticated amusement park. The bathroom in our double-full room was extremely small compared to today's standards. I expected queen beds but I believe they only have full size and king. So off to bed we go. I'm a fairly light sleeper so I often have a tough time falling asleep when we're on road trips. Maybe it's the excitement but, whatever, I'm used to it. But I wasn't prepared to be woken up just before sunrise to a shaking bed! At the first jolt, I opened my eyes and stayed still to be sure I felt what I felt, then I looked up expecting to see my son, and saw nothing. Then I got up and walked over to the other bed where my teenage son slept, and laid on his bed wide-eyed. Needless to say, I did not fall back asleep and the sun came up soon thereafter. So was it the lady who haunts the hotel? I don't know, but I am sure my bed was definitely shaking!! I'll see if I can locate the room number and edit this post..... Later that morning, we were given a guided tour, which I absolutely loved and my son tolerated! My car was parked valet and stayed on the curb all night, and was right there in the morning. I appreciated this because I was able to just glance out the lobby door and see it waiting for me and that gave me peace of mind. Romantic, beautiful hotel and I cherish the memory! Ok so we got in today to stay at the hotel! The bed sheets were not clean neither was the the restroom! I actually had to clean toilet and I will not say what I saw! I Immediately contacted hotel and they switched our rooms immediately it was awesome! The bathroom and toilet at new room was clean and so was the sheets! This place is really cool! The staff will definitely help you! I felt bad for complaining but I did not want to sleep in sheets that where stained and a bathroom that was dirty! They really did help me ASAP! I was so glad! I was glad they understood and helped me and my husband immediately! They switched us to another room! It was great and very clean! Everything was great! The place is so pretty when you walk in! The security's abusive treatment of us was not any misunderstanding; and the hotel responded that they had tried to contact us several times. That is a lie. I have no email no voicemail. Random numbers appearing on my phone these days mean nothing. If you want to call me back, you have my number and leave a VM if I don't answer so I can know whom this is. You can also text me.. I have called several messages to the general manager, Jeff Thompson. And he has not left one voicemail, or email as I left my email address as well in the voicemail that I left him three times. The Seelbach Hotel: A Disappointing Experience at a Historic Landmark** What a shame that this historic hotel, over 120 years old, now carries such an unfortunate legacy. We arrived early in the day for a concert featuring Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham at the KFC Arena later that afternoon. While parking across the street to check in around 3 p.m., it was immediately clear that the area was in serious decline. A man and woman standing on the sidewalk next to my parking spot were visibly under the influence of drugs. The woman's eyes were terrifying, almost glowing, as if she were possessed. This was something I had never encountered before, so I quickly moved away. After checking in, we had to be moved to another room due to a bad odor in the first one. Up to this point, everything was manageable. We attended the concert, which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, upon returning to the hotel, we were greeted by what we initially thought was live music in the street. Instead, it turned out to be a chaotic scene--a mix of people on drugs, prostitutes, and even children selling bags of candy at 11 p.m. This was happening within half a block of the hotel, with various street people passed out on the sidewalks. We hurried back to the Seelbach, hoping to relax. As we were dozing off, someone began trying to open the adjoining room door in our suite. At first, we dismissed it, but after it continued for about five minutes, we became concerned. I had brought my pistol for protection, and as we felt increasingly threatened, I retrieved my weapon while my partner called the front desk. When there was no answer, she called 911. I banged on the connecting door, and I could hear women laughing on the other side, but they abruptly stopped when they realized I was aware of their presence. When security finally arrived, the situation worsened. Instead of assisting us, the security officer treated us as if we were the criminals. He asked how we were doing, and when I informed him that someone had been trying to break into our room, he told me I needed to calm down and shut the door. He even threatened to call the Louisville PD and have us arrested if I didn't comply. It became apparent that there might have been a connection between the security and the attempted break-in, given his aggressive response and lack of help. Fearing for our lives, we immediately packed our bags and left the hotel, embarking on a four-hour drive home in the middle of the night. Had an outstanding experience at the Seelbach. We stayed at the other historic hotel in downtown and walked over to the Seelbach to check it out. Walked into the Ratskeller and happened upon a tour given by Robert (I think that was his name). He worked security for the hotel and was providing tours too. The man was very passionate about his job. He took us all over, showed us several ballrooms as well as the Presidential suite. He knew a lot of history of the hotel and he is truly a gem employee. Had a drink in the old lobby bar afterwards. It was ok, but I was surprised at how small the crowd was at the bar. The lobby bar at the Brown was super crowded as compared to the Seelbach. This hotel is definitely worth a visit, even if you are just looking at the amazing architecture. read more
