When we went to consult with the vet about this, she said something along the lines of "oh so you want your cat to die sooner?" I was appalled. This is very much NOT what palliative care means. This made my mom have a breakdown in the car. We got a second opinion in Omaha, and the difference was shocking (their beside manner was amazing, and were not judgmental). Bedside manner is so important, and to be lacking in the skill leads to pet owners feeling guilty when they only want what is best for their pets. Alongside this, the diagnostic testing costs a fortune. The thyroid testing she wanted to do was around $250, and our quote in Omaha was $80. Overall, there are MUCH better vets out there. We were patients of Dr. Johnson for decades and loved his care, so it pains me to see this business in the current state.

Dr. Adam asked what symptoms he had and then explained that German Shepherds (and deep-chested breeds) are prone to life-threatening stomach flips. Bear would have needed emergency surgery. My sweet 3-year-old boy was gone within 24 hours. I took Bear to Shelby Vet the next day to be cremated. The Vet & staff are very caring.
