I have never written a Yelp review in my life, but my experience here was so profoundly insufferable that I felt a civic duty to warn anyone considering this place. If I could give it zero stars, I would. From the second you pull up, you are subjected to an aggressive, disrespectful onslaught of harassment just to get you to drive your car through a completely subpar wash. The level of frustration and anger I felt leaving this establishment is unmatched by any customer service experience I've ever had. It is a blatant, high-pressure scam. They don't care about cleaning your vehicle; they just care about cornering you and hounding you for your money. The wash itself is mediocre at best, but the toxic environment and predatory customer service make it completely intolerable. I will never, ever be back. The wash itself was decent, but the employees were far too pushy about upselling a membership. I let them go through their script and politely declined several times, yet they continued to press me to sign up for their monthly plan. When I was asked--again--why I wouldn't take the membership "for just $10," I mentioned that I could easily drive a little farther to Mister Car Wash if they didn't want to take my money for the service I actually requested. One employee even implied I "must have too much money" if I preferred to pay for a single wash instead of adding "just $10 more" for their membership. It was obvious they were following a script they're held accountable for, but attitude reflects leadership. I signed up for a promotional membership that ended up costing significantly more than expected. Be wary of the fine print. This company banks on you missing it. The cleaning supplies that are offered for you to clean your interior yourself are nice. The carwash itself never was able to reach the rear of my car for some reason whenever I went through. Absolutely horrible experience just trying to get my truck washed. I went to get my Tacoma washed and told the guy I wanted to just pay the one time wash which was their medium priced option. Which I've done dozens of times over the last few years. He asked me if I wanted the subscription option and I said no thanks. He then said he has to because that's their policy and have to explain the membership plan. I said "use some common sense- I just want to get a wash and handed him my credit card. He kept doing his pitch. At the end he then asked me if I wanted to sign up. I again said no thanks, just the wash. He asked me why... I said I didn't want get a subscription to have a vehicle that I don't drive very often. He then asked me if I had Netflix, I said no then he said, do you have any other video streaming services with subscriptions. I again said, "dude I just wanna get my truck washed." He continued to pitch all the benefits and I told him no thank you several more times. Finally I said open up the gate and I want to leave. He then said, we're under new ownership so I have to go through the entire process. I again said, "then open up the damn gate" which he did. Great employees who will wash your mats if you ask nicely and make sure not to get run over by the other cars entering the tunnel. Complimentary vacuums, microfiber towels, interior scent spray, tire shine, interior protection spray and window cleaner always available at various carts after your wash. An automatic car wash that doesn't scratch your paint seems to be a rarity these days. Couldn't be happier. read more

LOVE the Shine Shop in Ankeny near 36th and Ankeny Blvd. This is the 3rd year that I have gotten the monthly plan for car washes during the cold weather months. (I like washing my car in the driveway when it's warm, but you can't beat this place for keeping your car clean during the cold weather.) For just under $25 per month, I can keep my car clean, and keep the snow, slush, and ice off the car during the cold weather. For that $25, you get UNLIMITED car washes for the month . Yep, you heard me correctly. Can't beat that for the Iowa nasty weather months! And, the vacuums are running year round, so you can clean off the floor mats too! Yes, they allow you to suspend your membership at any time, and that's what I do when the weather turns warm. read more

The car wash is good but the service made by the individuals can be sketchy at best. This is at the north ankeny location. They get visibly irritated when you go slow to approach the tunnel i ended up discontinuing my membership because one male person w dark hair and terrible acne lost his patience w an older gentleman and started yelling at him, pointing wildly while using profanity. A careless display of disrespect visible to those all around. i took my business to Mr. Carwash, where they were happy to have it and have locations everywhere. not to mention the wash process got my truck clean and dry AND the membership is 8 bucks cheaper AND you can use it everyday read more

What a disaster. Spent 2499 on a car wash, and the truck is still filthy. Used so little water, which I know is good for the environment, that it didn't even rinse the dust off. Not to mention no prep work at all by the attendant who basically just directed me into the tunnel. Very very sad. The one in Ames is way better. . And when I questioned a young fellow in the parking lot about the fact that my truck was still completely covered with bugs, even on the windshield, he ignored me and ran away like he didn't speak English.. The car wash is 3 out 5 for quality. The service is terrible, to cancel your membership, you must call customer service. (Please note you'll be placed on hold to challenge your patience) This service is set in place to make it difficult for customers to cancel. Member here. Every time I come through my truck still has soap on it. The brushes don't get the back window of the truck. The employees that guide you in pack cars in so closely that my impact sensors go crazy. They have detail carts, but nothing on them to clean up exterior like a quick detail to get to soap off the truck. If this was not the closets car wash to my house I wouldn't use it. read more

I was so excited for a car wash on my end of town finally, so I took my wife's SUV in for a top of the line wash, a swanky I think. When I got done and out of my car I found soap all in the door jams in all four doors the rear window had soap left on it and was still dirty. For an expensive wash I was very disappointed. I'm glad I tried it out prior to purchasing this plan for my family and for my office vehicles. read more

I had the same, or worse, experience on the same day as the fellow who wrote the review on the 18th. The salesman tried to sell me their unlimited plan by literally pushing the sign in front of the self-serve kiosk screen. By literally, I mean he literally blocked the screen and pushed my hand aside with it. Borderline assault! The manager was even worse; the salesman must have told him about the incident from his side, and the manager refused my business (no, I'm refusing yours!), wouldn't open the gate to let me out and left me no choice but to back out of their driveway. Tried contacting someone through their "contact us" form to discuss the incident, and no response. Maybe some training or firings are in order, but I guess there'll be no action taken. Was a customer for four years, but no more. Mister car wash is just down the street--they try to sell their plans too, but are courteous when you refuse. Go there instead. Shame shop! read more

I've been using shine shop north ankeny since it opened. I think it changed owners, and with new owners it went downhill fast. They no longer spray your car off first - even when sand/salt was caked on during winter months. I even sent a fb message asking if they could still do it and they said just ask the worker to spray off before the tunnel and they would take care of me. I asked next time I went, to which he said they don't do that anymore. I live on a gravel road so my truck gets dirty daily. My truck never gets cleaned going through there anymore. I have called multiple days trying to cancel and just give up bc they never answer their phone and you can't leave a message bc it just hangs up after about a minute of ringing. I've called 6x today, still no answer. Extremely frustrated with the customer service - and this comes from someone who doesn't give reviews. Please cancel my membership. read more

Closes when temperatures get in teens. I have unlimited package for both my truck and car. Often the inside of my running boards don't get clean or the back window of my car. Two or three days going through and still. I clean. They do a quick spray of vehicle when you drive in, but many times only one side of the vehicle. read more

We have had a membership with the Shine Shop in Ankeny, IA since it first opened several months ago. Right out of the gate the car wash bent our front license plate severely. We took pictures and sent it to them via Facebook and they responded "they were still tweaking everything and that we should be using a license plate cover as this is common." So we purchased $30 worth of license plate covers. After running it through again it not only bent the plate but completely cracked and broke the license plate cover. We took pictures again and sent them to them via Facebook. This time around we have received no response for over a week. I then moved the rear license plate cover to the front and ran it through the wash again thinking it might just be a fluke. Just one time of running it through and it snapped that license plate cover. Still waiting for a response on the 2nd time this car wash caused damage, let alone the 3rd time we have experienced damage. read more
