But not today (19/10/24), we called in for a drink on our way home at 9.45pm to be told last orders had been called and turned away by the same young girl who we found very unwelcoming yesterday mid afternoon. who wanted to spend more time on her phone and out of the bar area. 28+ years we've been visiting the DA and never have we felt so unwelcomed. Never did I ever feel I'd want to write a review like this but we are sorry this has alway been our home from home pub however not this last few days. Fingers crossed we see an old welcoming face before we leave to go home and not one who you feel your putting her out by even walking through the door! Sorry DA this makes me so sad to write this...we normally eat, drink, laugh and love this pub and staff !!!

Many a happy session spent in this charming old pub, right on the riverfront…read more Right at the end of the walkway is Bayards Cove, a tiny little fort, and the cobbled streets alongside and picturesque housefronts have been the scene for several TV shows. Inside the pub, there's any number of photographs on display of various luminaries and scenes you might recognise. It's got that old-world air about it, deep long bar, panelled walls and despite the tourist trade has a great 'local' atmosphere, presided over by a genial host (or maybe it was just the barman. Either way, the staff are great!) Outside, you can watch the water go by and see the lights twinkling around the town when darkness falls. Lovely pub - and their pub meals are pretty tasty too!

We were told we needed to try the Terminator, the drink this pub is famous for around Plymouth. The name clearly implies something powerful and destructive, so when it arrived filling up a pint glass in all its pink glory I was a bit skeptical. Even upon tasting it I wondered why it earned such an ominous name. It was good, but much in the same way that juice is good. Apparently it's a rather potent drink, but I can honestly say I downed my fairly quickly and didn't really notice a thing. Maybe I got a weak one, or maybe I'm just that awesome :P, who knows! After a few drinks, we were ready to head home. The Fresher & Professor is a good pub to do exactly what we did - stop in for a few drinks at the end of the night. It has some good drinks, but in the end it was just your average pub. You probably should stop in and conquer the Terminator though at some point, just to say you did.

Overall it is pretty reasonably priced and has a nice atmosphere. It has a normal selection of drinks, nothing particuarly special. Its in a good location near the other main pubs/bars on North Hill.

There is plenty of parking so it is an ideal place for a budget meal out. The only downside at the moment is there are bar renovations ongoing.

You will be hard pushed to get a steak dinner anywhere in the UK, both at this price, and for deliciousness. They have a good choice of ales, I normally opt for Guinness or Bombardier Ale, with my sizzling steak. The landlord John is a no-nonsense, but very friendly chap, and his staff, are extremely friendly also, especially Bev. A well earned 10 out of 10, and another member of the Best Of British pub grub list. Try it, you won't regret it.

It was all pretty noisy and crowded but the staff were very friendly and I was served surprisingly quickly. The menu (as at all Wetherspoon branches all over the country) was varied with plenty of choice and there's a good range of real ale, wine and soft drinks. Very easy to find being in the middle of the Mutley Plain shopping street. If you're lucky you might find a space down one of the side streets (probably a long way down) or else there is a large car park on the opposite side of the road at one end (city end).
