    Nice rack

For so long the suburbs seemed to get passed by when it came to good coffee. Then, in early 2013, The Single Guys came to Kenmore. Coffees are spot on, go a standard flatty, capp, long black - or go one of the revolving and evolving single origins with a pour over. Linger longer and peruse the menu. Compact range of casual dining options, but none seem to fail in their execution. As a local business, the guys walk the walk when it comes to supporting other local business in the area too. It's a great little spot, always heaving, open from 6am M-Sat and 7am on Sunday. Well worth a venture out to the Wild (inner) West.

Brilliant service and friendly staff. The coffee is exceptional (they roast their own) and the food compliments it all perfectly.

I've eaten outside twice and even just sitting in the area eating the food takes me away like I'm on holiday. You're surrounded by greenery and ugh the decor is very LA/Balinese vibes - it's really pretty. They make great drinks both smoothies& mocktails at breakfast time ;). They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, & coffee and cakes from Jocelyn's Provisions ! Biggest yass ever because JP cakes are so yum. Table service and wait staff are good - they do get very busy though especially on weekends I have noticed. I have never noticed irritability or rudeness at all, despite how busy they get the staff always appear professional and calm. It is more $$ but the food and drinks is 5/5 quality. Street Parking is available both on the main road and just in the side streets - it's a short walk to score free parking. I already know this is one of my go to places for brunch with my friends if I feel like having a fancy brunch ohohoho!

The cafe itself is amongst the Hillsdon Road Centre of businesses and is at the back of the convenience store. There's three or four small tables (ideal for parties of one or two) and a small communal table (maybe for 6) within the cafe and outdoor seating in the courtyard. On a sunny day, or even on the grey day today, it's great to sit outside and soak up the leafy surrounds. The menu isn't fussy. It takes up one A5 sheet of paper and I opted for the baked eggs but you might prefer the avocado on sourdough toast with their homemade almond butter or the savoury mince. My baked eggs are served with leek and capsicum jam and tarragon which, when baked, gives the eggs this wonderfully subtle taste of licorice/ aniseed. I order one flat white and one ice latte during the course of my time waking up amongst the cafe with locals popping in and out for the mornings hits. What the most pleasant surprise of all is the total I paid for breakfast. $15.50 for baked eggs and two coffees. And this isn't some slap-dash-side-of-the-road-truck-stop-inspired-big-breakfast. No, it's thoughtful. It's a quality production and I'm not sure I want to tell anyone about it for fear of it becoming too popular!

I recently moved from Indooroopilly but in the 6 months or so from the opening of NKB Express to when I moved, this was a regular choice for my friends and I. The interior is very authentic of the classic American diner from the counter, to the booth seating and the presentation of the meals. It is very accessible as it is just across the road from the Indooroopilly train station. Parking in the centre can be a bit of a challenge however. The meals are amazing! If you are in the mood for a serious burger, I highly recommend this place. They are filling and tasty. My favourite was the mushroom wagyu beef burger which as I recall was called the 'Central Park' or something similar. The chocolate shake was also a solid staple of mine. Prices are standard and they also do takeaway. It is definitely worth dining in for the full experience. It can get quite busy so avoid peak meal times or be prepared to wait for a table. If you are a fan of modern gourmet food and the inner-City lifestyle and you have not been to NKB Express, this should be your next stop! I'll be back.

Worth checking out the little sister of Nantucket at Indooroopilly.

The baristas are exceptionally skilled, and there is a selection of roasts to choose from. While I normally like my coffee black, something that isn't too hard to make, I've had a few flat whites from Penny which have been excellent. A friend of mine asked if they're able to pull a piccolo using soy milk, without the milk splitting. Despite indicating that the barista don't need to try if they haven't made one before, they produced one (after two failed attempts) by slowly adjusting the extraction to the point where they could add a shot to soy milk without producing soy cheese. Doing this despite explicitly not needing to is the sort of above and beyond that earns long-term customers. The food is similarly stellar. The avo on sourdough may at first blush seem like a pricier version of what everyone else is doing. The flavours in Penny's version are, however, inventive and balanced to a point I haven't had elsewhere. There's a nice balance between the feta, dukkah and pomegranate where you can taste all of them without one overpowering the other. The vegetabowl is similarly great. There's just enough of each ingredient that you can taste them, without the dish being overpowered by one note. Penny's interior makes maximal use of the space. There are comfortably sized tables out front and inside, and some bar seating by the espresso machine. The best seats in the house, though, are out back, and include a few longer tables. The staff at Penny are attentive, friendly and great at pulling a coffee and making food.

Place of Stones, named after the Aboriginal meaning of the suburb Taringa, is a local cheap and…read morecheerful Italian restaurant. The thing about Place of Stones is that it is as Italian as a deep dish Pizza. It resembles the original Italian dish, but the ingredients betray the history and specificity of the original dish. In the case of Place of Stones, the food is good enough to forgive them for their liberal use of Greek flavours, sweet chilli sauce and avocado, and for the surprising lack of a single risotto from the menu. The banquet, which I had, consists of a selection of entrées, salads, pizzas and pastas. There is no dessert, but they're happy to sell these on top as required. The entrée calzoni, filled with sweet chilli and sour cream, is decidendly un-Italian, but the chewiness of the dough hits that sweet spot that you want from Italian dough that you stop caring about the ingredients. The mediterranian salad is really just a Greek salad with lettuce, and could have done with a little more imagination (some fresh or dried oregano wouldn't have hurt either). For the mains there was selection of pizzas and pastas. The promise of the banquet, that nobody would leave hungry, is certainly one they aim to keep. The pastas were cooked excellently, and the pizza dough was perfectly thin and chewy, something lacking from most suburban pizzerias. The duck pizza, which isn't mentioned in their online menu, reaffirms my view that duck has no place on pizza. It tends to be too tough and chewy, but in this case it was executed well enough to not be a problem, or to detract from the pizza itself. Place of Stones, not true to the traditional Italian ideas of pizza and pasta, but executed well enough that you won't care.
