The vegetables on the side were limp and far from fresh (unfrozen and heated up without any flavorings at all). The fish pie was not filling at all and lacked flavoring as well. I hesitated in giving this place 2 or 3 stars and in the end decided it could be rated higher for the atmosphere and potential. I think I ordered a poor dish and should have gotten the fish and chips instead, so I'll be trying that out next time along with one of there many desserts (too bad there wasn't the time to eat a dessert!)

There is a seating option to suit all tastes so it's good for couples, with plenty of intimate nooks to get romantic in, and it also works well for larger parties. There is a spacious terrace out back for when the weather is a little more pleasant than on our visit. There was a decent choice of beer on offer with Doom Bar, Bombardier and 6x on the hand pump; all in fine condition, crystal clear and served at a good temperature. B was drinking the house White which she said was ok if a little bland. With the "village pub and inn" brand it's obviously all about the food and they are trying to attract an older crowd who want to have a meal and a couple of drinks rather than the "wet" only punters. The menu was a bit war and peace which is always a warning sign but our choices were well executed and presented (although for many dishes this means it's, at the very least, part prepared and then reheated). The roast selection, you get a decent size portion of three meats, was pretty tasty although you could easily have shared this between two people. Service was fine although you need to keep on top of your servers; they are all quite young and seem well trained in avoiding eye contact if they are in a busy spell. All in all we had a very pleasant Sunday lunch here and we would not hesitate to return. A well-deserved, rather than a grudging, 3 stars.

The restaurant was clean, bright and airy. The high tea is served in 'Waves' - the first being a savoury selection of Chicken Yakatori, a Prawn and Tofu Ball and Duck Long Bao. This was accompanied by a refreshing Ginger and Lemon Iced Tea. The Second Wave was a selection of savoury and sweet items, with an Avocado Maki Roll and Squid Ink Tapioca Cracker, to a Yuzu and Lemon Curd Tartlet, Hazelnut and Chocolate Delice, Spiced Stawberry Trifle and an Orange Scone with Orange Curd. I also had a Mandarin and Kumquat Bellini. Afterwards, we were given a coffee, and as it was my friend's birthday we were treated to a complimentary taster dessert of a macaron and white chocolate and raspberry pop with a bitter chocolate sauce. It was the BEST high tea experience I have ever had. Each item was at a perfect temperature and presented beautifully, and everything was absolutely delicious. My favourite was the squid ink and tapioca cracker, which I would have normally avoided on a menu but was like nothing I have ever eaten before. She clearly didn't understand the menu or what we had ordered. I felt like I had to have what she wanted to give me not what the customer wants!! I told her to check what the cocktail is alcoholic or not and give me one of the alcohol ones. Or that they charge us correctly for what they placed on the table! Not a good start! They have no sandwiches or nuts, fruits or anything that you find in a standard airport lounge. In July 2024 they had on offer on a Sunday evening: vegetable curry (no rice, when I asked they said they ran out), prepacked toast, some very sad looking salad leaves, potato salad and cheese cubes. - there is no free alcohol... yes you are reading this right. If you want a drink, you need to pay. - there is often very limited space and a lot of tables are "reserved" - not sure who they reserve it for. In addition, the lounge doesn't feel very clean. I opted to go to Burger King after another terrible experience at this lounge.
