The dentist, Dr. Basra was wonderful as were the hygienists. My issue is with billing. When I went to pay with a credit card (very common) I was told there is a 3% service charge. Ok I get it. But I was not told before arrival. If I had been told, I would have brought cash. When I questioned this the person at check out told me they would hold my labs if I didn't pay at that moment. I felt like my dental work was being held hostage. And she gave me quite an attitude about the whole incident. If you are going to The Smilist bring cash if you don't want to pay for their fees. They are very accommodating with scheduling and so patient and attentive when the kids arrived.

Dr. Funk is the best dentist I have ever been to. I am a dental coward, and he is very calming and confident. That being said, his skill level is tippy top notch. He is extremely gifted with his hand skill and knowledge. He works with Patty, and they run like a finely tuned engine. I would not go to anyone but Dr. Funk. When I go on vacation, I hate being far away from his care if needed. I am extremely grateful to have met him. Laura does my cleanings, and is absolutely perfect. Parking in the rear. The smilist dental is under a few dental insurance companies as a preferred provider. They bill the dental insurance company get payment in full under their agreed allowable charges. Then they bill you for whatever they feel is the unpaid balance???? So if the allowable for example is 100 dollars for the procedure they get reimbursed the 100, but, they want 1000.00 dollars they will bill you 900.00!!! I tried calling them they say office who handles billing will call you. They never call but month after month keep sending you bills!! Stay away!! Read the reviews on this office. The story is the same. They join dental insurance company's and agree with those companies on charges for services as a preferred provider. After, they receive payment from the dental insurance, they send a bill to the customer with a note on the bottom you are responsible for the rest whatever they feel they should get. Both my husband and I have been coming here for several years. Today, I had an appointment with Roberta (dental hygienist) at 4:30 pm. I needed a late afternoon appointment due to my work schedule. I even cut my day short for this appointment. I made this appointment 4 months ago. I called the office at 4 pm to let them know that I was on my way and that I would be 10 minutes late. The receptionist said that she was going to ask Roberta. And after asking, she told me that Roberta said that I have to reschedule. How can you have me reschedule because I'm 10 minutes late? I could understand if I was 20-30 minutes late. I'm a health care provider in a cardiology/ internal medicine office and we always make exceptions and accommodations. Visited the office today and just wanted to share my experience with the front office staff. Upon checking out the girl helping me was speaking very low and between the plexiglass and her mask I couldn't understand a word she was saying! I asked her to speak up twice and she refused and kept whispering. However I did hear her say to me twice in a nasty tone 'I Speak Fine'. Very unprofessional and rude. She needs to be trained in how to interact with patients or shouldn't be working at the front desk. Not happy with this place at all. read more

Well let me see don't know where to begin!! Let me start off by saying those front desk representatives are one of the nasty humans I've come across. I personally like when dental offices show me exactly who they are I move right along to the next thank God for good coverage. Appoint 2:00 o'clock could you believe 10 people was literally seen and left and me and my kids was still at the office for a minute I though I didn't have any insurance!!! Second issue they mixed up my kids dental record asking me if my daughter been there before when she already had fillings done and was there for another. 3rd issue my son was never seen there and his first time and they assistant is telling home about he might need a root canal and he had 5 cavities etc. My son was in shock like this my first time those are not my teeth. SMH now this is exactly how malpractice lawsuits happen. Anyways it's a lot but the dental assistant kept asking me about my daughter who was seen there twice before about what she's here for. Here's the issue I have if it was a mixup in records wouldn't the date of birth be enough to pull up my daughter and son record?. Well me and my family members would no longer be part of this facility not only was the front desk representative rude but I realize these are the type of people Smilist likes to hire. I've read several reviews about the rudeness of the front desk staff and of course I see nothing changes. I have no choice but to pay whatever they tell me. I am enraged that they keep sending me bills a year after the service was rendered. I called my insurance and they said that they charged excessively and only the amount they were eligible was paid. I was told that they are participating provider so everything is covered by the insurance. I had to pay upfront for antibiotics as the insurance didn't qualify that. But the front desk personnel had told me other than that everything was covered. They are scam. Very stressed with their negligence. read more

I am only giving this place one star because Yelp is making me. This place is a disgrace. The most incompetent office staff, technicians and "dentists". You may think you have an appointment, but they will change the time, day or even cancel the appointment without notifying you, even though you will receive emails and texts to confirm what you thought was your appointment. The past two appointments I had, each lasted over an hour because first the "dentist" could not figure out what tools she needed the second time a crown she took the impression for did not fit and it took over an hour for her to figure this out and did not tell me that a new crown would be needed until she started taking a new impression. Very unprofessional. Next time I need dental work I'll tie the tooth to a door knob and slam the door shut. read more

Had a cleaning done by the Dental Hygenist Melissa in Smithtown, and she was very informative and did a very thorough job cleaning. I need to floss more! I had my cavities addressed by Dr. Perrino she also did a great job walking me through her procedure and tried her best to make it a good experience. Which she did. I'll be returning to see Dr. Perrino for her gentle but precise touch. As far as billing goes, I'll get back to you when I receive anything. Good experience. read more

The front desk is very rude and disrespectful! They barely look up at you and treat you as if you're a nuisance. They speak amongst themselves about patients in front of other patients. I have been a patient here for a couple years and every visit seems to be getting worse and worse. The dentist are great and very friendly but it is the front desk staff that are rude, unorganized and sleazy. In particular the lady named Judy. Every time I go there I feel like I am at a used car dealership getting the runaround. They always seem to overcharge me and make me feel like an idiot for not understanding my own insurance coverage. The first time we went to The Smilest it was great. Since last year we are on our 5th doctor. Going to the dentist is not a fun experiience, especially when you do not know what doctor you are walking into. You can not establish a relationship because the turnover is so great. After reading many reviews about this office I decided to schedule an appointment. The hygienist was most awful. She was not too sanitary. Wore gloves to touch everywhere and everything in the office and then used the same gloves to work on my mouth. She jabbed in my mouth quite painfully when taking the xrays. Bruised the roof top of my mouth. Didn't ask me to turn my head but rather she forcefully moved my head. Didn't ask me to rinse once while cleaning. The doctor was good but only spent approx. 2 minutes with me. The office needs updating. I will not be returning. I hope someone finds this helpful as I often rely on reviews for guidance. read more
