This was part of a mini strip mall where one ordered at the counter and waited at a table until the food was ready. They served mostly traditional BBQ options from platters to tacos to sandwiches. The food was ready promptly and the service at the counter was friendly. I went with the two meat platter ($18). It came with two meats, a side, and a drink. I opted for the brisket and pulled pork as well as a side of corn. I also choose their original BBQ sauce. This was average at best. Both meats were a little dry, so the sauce needed to be added. Service was Great and fast Tracy the front counter gal was so Amazing(5) good w suggestions explaining about all the diff combos n foods. IDEA......They should offer the chips(home made 5) and 3 sample cups of bbq sauce THEIR choice to try them While waiting for their meal(like Plaza does w chips n salsa) and u would sell more bbq sauce.. btw Carolina Gold wow top notch was rockin(lil zip but sweet honey mustard flavor) Sweet n vinegar(not sweet but very vinegary) there was one that tasted like Hot sauce n red hot tgether My friend loved it.....I like that they came dwn in his prices and gives u choices that YOU want instead of having a set menu. Gouda Mac n cheese good when hot but as it cools could use some creamy element, Potato wedges although they look like fries WOW Really good. Ribs(5) are very fall aprt tender.. rib tips eh lil dry for my taste but friend loved them. Corn bread was a tad dry but good(thought they said it was smoked didnt taste like it) The Ribs were the of the show. $20 for 2 meats, 2 sides and A pop/soda( Off brands but very good) . We really enjoyed our food from this place, we were just googling places on the way home from southern Mn and I needed something that could accommodate my gluten intolerance. So glad we chose this restaurant. It's a family owned and run place, super cute inside with country music playing. They have beef ribs which are not served at a ton of bbq joints and omg were they awesome. My husband and I got the ribs with the bourbon bbq sauce and the pork belly tacos, my kiddos each got a cheese burger and wedge fries and we all thought it was super tasty. Suuuuuper za crack fire bbq. We got the pulled pork sandwich with their house bbq sauce -- my gawd that sh*t HIT. I love when the food I eat makes me feel good the entire time I'm eating it because they don't skip out on quality ingredients! Everything from the bread, to the meat, to the fries was definitely made or chosen with care and intention. Boyfriend reallllly liked the mac & chz idk maybe I'm just not a mac & chz kinda gal cause I was good on it. Ambiance wasn't really giving us bbq restaurant vibes, but none the less very clean & plenty of places to sit. Service was great - very friendly people working there. The food is complete trash!!! The only thing that was decent was the pork belly otherwise everything else is garbage. When the owner seen that I threw a whole platter of food away, which literally was $70 in the garbage, he became upset & became confrontational. I told him the oak wood he uses is too overbearing. Try to use more of the cherry or hickory wood instead & cut back on the oak. Another issue which is a sign of an inexperienced BBQ spot is not perfecting a signature style. They offer 5 different styles of BBQ sauce under one location. That's blasphemy in the bbq industry. Well established bbq joints will offer one style such as (KC, Memphis, Carolina, Texas, Bama, etc) & the sauce stays at that base & is offered either in mild or spicy or spicier &/or a rub base. But this place offers 5 different styles & not a master of none!!! They claim to offer southern cooking but from the north. The baked beans they offer is from the can & taste the metallic from it. Southern food is made from scratch & not from the box & can. This spot isn't authentic & a fraud in that sense. I even offer the owners, a husband & wife team, a free lesson on how to rework their recipe & make their sides from scratch. The husband passed on the offer cause he couldn't handle the constructive criticism. The funny thing is before I ordered the food the wife bragged about having a cook from Mississippi & I was thinking he's only the cook who's cooking your recipe. He's not the creator. So later while we were arguing the cook from Mississippi was nodding his head & laughing in agreement with me. The customer service from the wife was awesome but it doesn't make up how terrible the food is. Normally I would ask for my money or do a stop payment but when they read this review they can look at it as tip on how to improve the quality of this madness. This is perhaps the best BBQ I've ever eaten. Oftentimes I find *some* thing I'd change about a place but not here. From the server who greeted us to the owner who was packing a ginormous catering order to whomever skillfully smoked the meats everything was top notch. This is an unassuming spot from the outside and completely unpretentious inside. They've focused all their energy in great food! St Louis ribs were fall off the bone, tender lightly smoked and coated with a sweet sticky glaze. Pulled pork, too is nicely smoked with a bit of tooth to is so it's not mushy like it can be some places, not overly laced with fat or connective tissue either. Brisket, what can I say... again near smoked perfection! The absolute best thing here is the Mac & cheese! This is literally the best I've ever had. I do this pretty well myself but this is better than my own! If I was ever to do a BBQ spot, I'd do it exactly like this. If I could give it more stars I really would. read more

We really wanted to like this place. But we won't be back. The service was some of the worst I've ever had. Three tables left while we were there tonight- two were never helped after they seated themselves and the other left after never being asked for their order. I would offer more grace if I saw the workers with a bit of hustle doing their best, but that wasn't the case. A very leisurely pace, oblivious to how many customers they were losing. The food was decent, but not enough to make up for the service. I feel this place would be better served as a food truck or an order at the counter restaurant. read more

We were driving back from Ames and looking for a spot stop for dinner. The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu. I settled on a two meat combo. I got ribs, brisket with coleslaw. Well we were over in Owatonna for some business and whenever we are in town we try something different. To be honest this was the first Friday night of the county fair across the street so the bbq place was a bit slow. It doesn't bother me one bit when a place is quiet but it also generally means they don't cook as much and they run out early. Our issue not theirs. So we didn't get to try the beef ribs. Sampled the pulled chicken, pulled pork, sausage, the brisket and the st Louis ribs l, coleslaw, potatoe salad. The chicken and pulled pork were both really quite dry an lacked flavor. The brisket had been overcooked so the chef chopped it fine and tried to soak it in what tasted like high sodium beef broth. Very little brisket flavor and very salty. Sausages were sliced straight across and reheated which made them just like an over heated dog off the rollers of your local quick mart. Ribs were somewhat moist but the rib rub had attached itself to the ribs with almost no flavor coming from the ribs. Very perplexing. We plan on coming back and resampling on a night when they are moving more food. I think a lot of issues we tasted had to due with food being held for a long time. The pit smells like heavy use of oak, so I would suggest they back off the oak a bit and add some cherry and pecan blocks. It will make the ribs pretty and add a nice fresh butter flavor to the meats. read more

As soon as you walk in, you're instantly hit with the great smell of BBQ. My dad and I went here for dinner. It was my first time going but his 7th time. There were a lot of great options, but I got the brisket sandwich, with potato wedges as my side and my dad got ribs with beans and cornbread. The taste of the brisket, with their homemade sauce, was something I have never tasted before. It wasn't too overwhelming, yet it had a lot of great flavor. I tried the ribs and, when I tell you, they just fell of the bone. Yes the prices may be high, but you're definitely getting what you pay for. The staff was amazing, the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, and the food was simply, our-of-this-world. Definitely recommend. Now time to bring my mom! read more
