This was a large place with a lodge type vibe and lots of specials with appealing options. The menu had lots of choices ranging from burgers to seafood to steaks. The service was alright. It took some time to receive some items, but they were very friendly. For an appetizer, the Asian plum wings ($14) were ordered. There were eight wings that were of good size. They were cooked appropriately and had a nice crunch. The sauce was interesting as it had a soy sauce flavoring with a spicy factor with a little bit of sweetness too. For my entrée, I had the 8 oz. Viking steak ($29). It came with a side, green beans, and bread. I chose a house salad for my side which was an added charge. The salad was alright, onions just cut too large, and not really a lot of bacon present. The bread was okay. The garlic butter was appetizing. I ordered the steak medium rare and that was how it came out for the most part. The steak was flavored nicely, but some parts were a little tough. This is getting such a low review because the service was bad enough that we got up and left before we ever placed an order. For some background, Timber Lodge was a steakhouse my family used to go to all the time in the early 2000's (specifically the Fridley location - RIP), so there's a lot of nostalgia when I think of this place. Owatonna is quite the commute from Saint Paul, but I thought it would be worth it for a Father's Day surprise, as this restaurant chain was special to my dad and I. I made a reservation in advance and had specifically requested booth seating. When we arrived this evening, the front desk let us know it would be a 15 minute wait for our table, no problem as we arrived for our reservation 15 minutes early. My dad and I sit at the bar, wait 5 minutes for the bartender, get our drinks, and then another 15 minutes later someone comes to seat us. My dad paid out the bartender and then walks with me to our table. The host seats us at a 4 top regular table - my dad asks if we can be moved to a booth (as my reservation requested) - the host lets us know that there are no booths available...but there are at least 8 booths open with no one seated. We accept that we'll have to sit at a table, but then wait 15 minutes and no waitress even acknowledges us. At one point, an older woman asked my dad to get out of his chair because of the way the floor plan was set up, she couldn't get past otherwise with her walker. At this point we had enough. What should have been a lovely meal with my dad to celebrate, ended up being a waste of an hour drive down to Owatonna. If there's an immediate takeaway, the staff should be more attentive and communicate better with their patrons. Will not be back. read more

The menu was very diverse and gave us great selection options. Upon receipt of our food, every entree was freshly made and the sides were very tasty. We found ourselves here in Owatonna on Father's Day, so thought this would be a nice place to stop for a meal. The inside was pretty, but service and food were not very good. We got sat pretty quick, and got served our drinks in a timely manner. He said he'd give us a few minutes and took forever to come back. Our appetizer came out fast, but the food took forever. My husband ordered a steak, which didn't seem to be anything special. I ordered the chicken alfredo. It cost $19 and it tasted like it came from a Knorr package of instant pasta or something. It was very bland. It also had like only 5 tiny pieces of chicken in it. The service wasn't great either. The waitress said she'd bring my husband another glass of water, and I had to finally hail someone as they walked by to get it. My meal was also supposed to come with bread and I had to ask someone for it. The bread/butter was the only tasty thing there. Definitely not worth the money. The only upside was that our 2 kids enjoyed their kid meals and they were free since it was kids eat free night. Still spent $70 and it was definitely not worth it. At all. So the food is great. Now that the good is stated time to work on improving the other things... 10 minutes after being seated we finally were greeted by our server. Ordered old fashioned woodford reserve because they didn't have buffalo trace or four roses. Drinks came. Uh... ok take a breath muttled Wisconsin style little to no simple sugars, red in appearance I'm assuming from the marchino cheery juice dump in. We've been back a few times over the years and things have improved. The last time we were in we went on a last-minute Valentine's Dinner Date with no reservation. The hostess was able to get us a table in the bar area quickly, and they even offered us the Valentine's Day special, even though we didn't have said reservation. We ate off the regular menu and were taken care of by the manager (assistant? floor? not sure). Our drinks were never allowed to get close to empty, our food came out within 25 minutes even though the restaurant was packed, and everything was perfectly cooked. On a recent visit I decided against steak and ordered the parmesan encrusted walleye and a Long Island Iced Tea. I've seen favorable comments about this and the walley did live up to my expectations. The side I selected was parmesan mashed potatoes. They lacked flavor. The bread loaf was good, largely because of the standard whipped herb butter that everyone has. My Long Island Iced Tea was a huge disappointment. It was somehow very weak and it looked like dirty dishwater. In summary, the service was great. The food had hits and misses. We then watched as table after table.were seated and waited on. While we were completely overlooked. Even as the server helped the table next to us, so close, in fact, that the server had to squeeze between our table.ans their chairs. And still we went unseen and unhelped. At about 4:55pm after we'd been ignored by several servers and my son had completely drawn on his entire kids menu, we left. As we left, no one spoke to us.
