Of them all, Terry Robards has emerged as my favorite. They have a pretty decent selection of wines for their size, including some interesting and non-typical selections. The people there know the stock well, and when I went on a Sunday and had a question about a purchase and the salesperson DIDN'T know anything about the bottle I was interested in, she called the owner (impressive). They are very friendly - significantly friendlier than the folks at the other stores, based on my experience. And they are very dog-friendly, which I really like. And they give a 10% discount on wines, and 7% on spirits (why they don't just lower the prices, I can't say - I assume there's some reason they do it this way). In any case, Terry Robards has emerged as my favorite liquor store in Lake Placid (and it doesn't hurt that it is in the same small plaza as the Mini Euro Mart, which I love - if you're going to have people over for drinks, you can get everything you need in one stop).

Hex & Hop was a very pleasant stop with great friendly service and a few chats with some of the locals. They had loud live music which I didn't care for, but other sure did. A few rousing sounds including Sweet Caroline, Country Roads and even The Star Spangled Banner got my fellow beer drinkers to participate. So it's not all about me. I tried the hefeweizen and didn't care for it but the Smitty Pils was excellent. I consumed two of those with the day's special pizza "Put A Pep In Your Step." We started with a couple of their Brews and they were awesome. I had the Tomato/Basil soup which was perfect on a cold Adirondack day. Stumbled upon this gem of a Eastern European convenience store in Lake Placid while there for the…read moreholidays! This place was incredible! I was looking for things to make a Russian New Years celebration feel more at home and they had all sorts of things: like traditional black bread, red caviar, smoked herring, deli meats, pickled mushrooms and more! They had frozen desserts and entrees as well from Poland, Russia and other Eastern European countries. I do wish they had some more prepared pre-made salads that one could purchase by the pound, but the son of the shop owner was very helpful in explaining the products as he worked the register. If you're a local to the area, you now have a new Eastern European market to check out! I hope you're able to find some great gems as I was!
