This is a fun bike bar right near Cain's. When I say bike, I don't mean motorcycle, I mean bicycle! I don't know too much about the history, but I'm pretty sure Soundpony is a huge sponsor of Tulsa Tough, so because of that a lot of bike people congregate here. I can't claim to know too much about the bicycle connection, but it seems cool! It is a pretty typical downtown bar, but they have a really nice back patio for nice weather nights. I haven't ever come here on a Cain's show night, but I have seen passing by that it is usually pretty packed. Definitely worth a stop next time you're bar hopping :) read more

Sound Pony is a great dive bar that hits right in my wheelhouse. Sound Pony was just up the street from where we were before, so we walked the couple of blocks to check it out. We had Sound Pony on our list because a snarky review posted elsewhere said something along the lines of it being a bar full of characters from Portlandia. While I don't think that was completely accurate, Sound Pony appeared to be a place full of unique and hip people. When we showed up, a 2-person band was setting up in the space just inside the door, but despite that we were just about to get some live music, the door-check was only an ID verification, no cover. Then, once we get inside the décor is dark, full of people, and reminded me a lot of The Replay Lounge in Lawrence. We noted that the special on tap was "Pedal Beer" for $2, which I presume is just a name for general macro-lagers. We ordered a round of those and headed out to the back porch (the band was starting, and we were going to talk rather than soak in the soundscape. Out back is a small space bounded by a wooden fence, but with a couple of seating areas and a whole collection of smokers. I personally don't have any issue with smokers - I was going to bars where I live before the smoking ban, and cigarette smoke doesn't really bother me and I don't have a great issue with my clothes smelling like smoke (hell, I often come home smelling like "dank bar" after a night out in certain places in Lawrence, and that's with all of the smoking still going on outside). But, it was a little crowded and we couldn't get a place to sit, so we stood around for a bit, drinking our beers and chatting, and weighing our options on what to do with the remainder of the evening. The only real downside was that we weren't out for an evening of getting blasted by loud rock music, but we also weren't smoking, so the two main areas of the bar were pushing us at each other, and in the end we just left. But, when I find myself back in Tulsa, Sound Pony is a place that I will definitely be visiting again. This is the third of a series of ~13 reviews about a weekend getaway in Tulsa. read more

Just in town for the night doing a show at Cain's. I can't believe I'd never been here before. Not everyday you see a bicycle bar with cracked carbon frames lining the walls not to mention an awesome selection of beers and if you're a smoker LUCKY STRIKES! This is the spot. A great bar! I can usually be found a few doors down in the Crystal Pistol, but occasionally I venture in to the Soundpony and I have never been let down. One Friday during Oktoberfest, I stopped in to drink and dance a bit and the DJ was on it. A good mix of electronica and old school rap (I never thought I'd be dancing to NWA) as well as contemporary songs. The drinks are good and the crowd is lively and fun. Great bar! Lots of hipsters and interesting people to see and talk to. The decor is decktabulous with the best music selection in town. Its really got an individual, organic feel unlike all bars in south Tulsa. If Anthony Bordain came to town no doubt this would be the bar he would visit. The stinkiest, most claustrophobic bar in Tulsa posing as a venue. Rude bartenders and a crowd that feels underage don't help. This is the kind of place that's not inherently cool enough to be a dive yet masquerades as hip, and where ladies can expect to get groped and/or spilt on. The one redeeming factor is the live music - however if you can't make it to the front of the bar (which really is not big enough to support a band), you're left in a space as wide as an airplane aisle, and will have to push against others (spilling beers and groping) moving past to go outside or to the bathrooms to retain a place to stand. If it's nice weather and worth spending your entire time outside on the patio, "Pony" can be tolerable. Otherwise, there are much better places in Tulsa for both drinking and hearing music, and that don't smell like a locker room. read more

Maybe the coolest bar I've ever been to. I went on a Monday night while exploring a city I'd never been to. That city was Cleveland so obviously I was seriously lost. Soundpony is weird, wild, has incredible music, and could care less what the world thinks of it, in a good way. It's not for everybody, and I wouldn't say it's worth a drive from Cleveland, but of you're in the Tulsa area and love quirky dives, go. read more

Hands down, best bar in Tulsa. You could wear a tuxedo or bathrobe, thong and cowboy hat and be equally comfortable. Great beer selection, nice bartenders, and relaxed, fun atmosphere. If you have friends in town that want to go out for a beer, you need to take them here. They'll want to come back again. read more

Biker bar, but think spandex, not leather. Our favorite go-to place for a weekend. There's probably going to be a band playing original music or an awesome dance party. The service is great, all the bartenders and owners learn people's name and are FUN. read more

Watch out for shady bartenders. Atmosphere is cool. Typically a good place to hang out. I went there recently and paid using my credit card. I tipped in the tip jar and put "0" on the signed receipt. They apparently didn't like that so they added their own tip which I saw on my credit card statement. I wouldn't have expected this from Sound Pony. Watch out. read more

This place has been here forever, it's very consistent and doesn't follow all the trendy stuff and that's exactly why I like it. All kinds of people, pet friendly and I like that. The Soundpony does have that great dive bar feel and look. A mix of hipster and cyclists, along with whomever walks in. I don't recall the largest selection of drink options but you'll find something you enjoy (I just like to order a Miller Highlife). All in all, a good place to stop into. read more

Even though this bar opened in 2006 it feels like it's an iconic Tulsa hotspot. It is the perfect reflection of Tulsa's nightlife culture. Laid back, but always rockin'! There is always great live music and the crowd is very appreciative of the bands. The dance floor may be small but it is fierce! People dancing packed in shoulder to shoulder together having the best time! The bar is always slammed, but their bartenders handle the crowds with ease! Bar is very small. Slightly larger than a size 11 shoebox. If you're looking to have a good time, meet new friends and have interaction with a diverse crowd then don't go here. Everyone is dressed the same (not sure if Amish or...) and if you don't fit that profile then don't show up. Now if that is your thing then welcome home to the land of condescending looks, skinny jeans and gluten free lifestyle fad diets.
