After 28 minutes, the defendant was declared a no-show and I was invoiced $819 - all lumped in one general line item. I asked for a breakdown of that and the new invoice had a $400 transcript charge (there was no transcript).

Now, no one really likes being served with a subpoena. And having a lawyer grill you (on video…read moretape, no less) for 6 hours about emails from 10-15 years ago ... that's even LESS appealing. So, I have to hand it to the fine folks at Behmke Reporting for making the process as pleasant as possible. * The facilities are nice - light, airy, comfortable, uncluttered. * They had breakfast bagels and beverages set out for us when we arrived in the morning. * The videographer and stenographer were professional AND friendly and fun. (They played along nicely with my attempting-to-lighten-the-mood requests for soft lighting and re-touching for my video-deposition debut). Aside from somehow exempting me from having to go through this process at all, I can't imagine how the folks at Behmke could have made it a more pleasant process. Oh, and extra kudos to Matt for cluing us all in to the day-olds and samples at Specialty's next door! :)
