My friend and I visited the Opal Spa for the first time, and were very excited to spend the day relaxing on the property. We both received spa services and planned to use the pool and whirlpool. Services were just ok, not at the caliber as they should be for the price. Both the pool and whirlpool had large amounts of green algae (see pictures) and the pool had clumps of hair along the bottom, as well as other trash. This was not an enjoyable experience and given the lack of cleanliness we did not feel comfortable using the services we had paid for. read more

Alyssa was amazing! Had a wonderful hydra-facial done by her. She was super friendly and informative and gentile. She did an excellent job. I left with my skin glowing and super smooth. They need to fix their online booking because I planned my whole much needed getaway with my husband around a couples massage & salt room experience. When I booked it, I selected a date (Saturday, November 1) but apparently there wasn't an opening and instead of telling me that, it automatically changed the date. I didn't notice so that's on me but for it to change the date and not tell you and not tell you that time you picked was not available - is sneaky. So we had the salt room booked for Saturday somehow but the massage was moved to Sunday. Why didn't someone see that and say there must be a mistake and reach out to me? You are in a service based industry. You need to do better. We had a whole day of relax and unwinding planned, and they messed it up. And they weren't helpful about it at all. When we were thinking of keeping the salt room appointment they let us see the"spa". High end? Luxury? No where close. They have a lot to do to improve and bring their standards up to actually meet high end and luxury. read more

Massage was ok, but not very intense. It was $150. For 50 minutes, which I felt was a bit much. I got a $30 add on for a hot oil scalp massage, which was again, just ok. Didn't add to length of the massage somehow. We asked to have it billed to our room and specified that we would add tips at that time. At checkout, we discovered they had added a 20% tip without consent. We were pretty displeased about that, since they specifically had asked and were told NOT to add it. read more

Charged $300.00 for services not rendered. My husband booked a "Spa Weekend" as a Christmas gift to me. The spa did call to confirm a couples message but due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to make the 10:00 booking. We called to change the time and they had nothing. We tried to book for the next day but they had nothing. We called and left a message on answering service; we spoke with concierge a couple of times but it is a separate business. We called first thing this morning to no avail. Within an hour a $300.00 charge was added on our card and was told we do not owe the 20 per cent gratuity. I will NEVER RECOMMEND OR RETURN to WBTS again. read more

Went to the Spa at Wentworth for a mother/daughter spa day to celebrate my Mother's birthday and am so completely dissatisfied with the horrific customer service on a day that should have been a special celebration and a treat of relaxation. The manager on duty, Haley, called me 45 minutes before our appointments were scheduled to begin (after receiving a call the previous day confirming all 3 of our 10am appointments) saying that my mother's treatment had to be rescheduled to start at 10:30am. As my sister lives in California and I have a 2 year old, this is a rare mother/daughter day that we look forward to each year and this is the first time we've left our usual Boston Spa to try Wentworth. When I expressed my frustration and disappointment, the manager candidly was barely apologetic and said there was nothing she would do. I asked if we could take a percentage off our services based on this last minute inconvenience and she said we could discuss it when we arrived - that alone seemed very rude and dismissive and not the type of customer service I'd expect from the fabulous Wentworth by the Sea. When we arrived, we were checked in by this same manager that had called me and again I was so appaled that she was not apologizing or trying to make the mix up better. I again asked her if there was anything she could do and she said no. I said I understand it's not your fault, but this is a special celebration day and we'd really appreciate whatever you can do to make it right as it's also not our fault either. I asked her about a percentage off and she said she could do 10%. I think 10% off my mother's facial ($14) seemed just so completely unacceptable and not accommodating. I again expressed my dissatisfaction and asked to speak to a manager. She replied that she was the manager and there was no one else to speak with and she said she could take 20% off my mother's facial - again $28 seems pretty pathetic for a spa of this caliber. My mother than spoke up and said that she was very excited to try this spa but sounds like she doesn't want us to have a great experience. At that point, the very rude dismissive manager on duty said she could give us a $25 food voucher. Her entire attitude and disposition was completely unprofessional for someone in hospitality/customer service. I understand that things come up but the fact that she barely apologized and then was so unwilling to try to make it right absolutely tainted our entire experience. In the end, I'm not sure what changed as she never said anything/notified us but my mother ended up getting taken in for her facial only 5-10 minutes after my sister and I began our massages - which was nice and enabled us to enjoy the time together. When checking out that afternoon, the same manager was sure to tell us that because they were able to take my mother "almost at the same time" as us they could no longer honor the discount that she had promised. Again, seemed just ridiculous to have us leave the day with her rude attitude and disposition for a measly $28 - Just a horrible experience. I expect more for a luxurious spa especially after spending over $600 for a celebratory event. I have reached out to the Director of Spa in hopes that she can make this right and make up for Haley's lack of customer service and the extremely dissappointing experience. read more

Did a girls spa day and massage here. I did a 50minute which was great but seems a little short for my liking. I'll go for the 80min next time:). Hot tubs, pool and sauna available. Only negative was the indoor pool allows children and it very over run by kids whose parents we not paying attention to them. They were jumping, screaming and splashing so we we confined to the outdoor hot tubs. They above the restaurant menu which you can order food and drinks through, Most spas I have been to give you a welcoming glass of champagne which they did not but over all good experience! read more

I booked a Ocean Restore facial, my esthetician was nice and fine. She did tell me the heater on her bed was broken which was not her fault however we all know that part of the facial experience is being wrapped in a heated cocoon. She offered to put an extra blanket on me but it's just not the same. The facial was decent but I was still annoyed about being cold the entire time so when I got to the front desk to check out I told the receptionist. She seemed flustered and said she had to check in with the facialist about the bed being broken (as if I was lying). Came back and said 'Well, did you ask her to turn the heat up in the room.' She was not as at all concerned that I didn't love my experience. She finally 'caved' and gave me 10% off after a handful of questions. I honestly thought it would be 20% off no questions asked and I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there because she made it so awkward. I will not be going back here. read more

Not what I was hoping for. I scheduled a pedicure last week and went today. I was very excited to learn that with the services I would have access to the entire health club facility so I planned on making a morning of it. I was met by a pleasant woman at check-in and that's where everything went downhill. Shown to the locker room we whisked by the rooms, not stopping to explain what they were for or what I was to do in the waiting room. I was brought to a locker that had a crumpled, wrinkled and dare I say old smelling robe to put on. (Every guest I saw during my 2 hour stay was in the same crumpled and wrinkled ropes - they looked terrible and made you feel frumpy not comfy and relaxed) I walked myself through the hallways looking for the waiting room where it was so dark I couldn't read the magazines that were left or did I even see the tea station they had set up (it would have been nice for someone to have shown me what was offered). My pedicure was ok, the woman who gave it has been there since the Marriott opened. She was good at what she did however I didn't appreciate the comment of "We offer a machine that will exfoliate your bottom feet for $10 extra" and when I turned that down "Well just to let you know your feet will leave here very dry". Isn't that the point of a pedicure for $75 without tip? Also I could have done without her dating life details. I was hoping to enjoy the morning in peace but listened to her chat about the lack of men in her life for an hour. Not sure I will be recommending this spa anytime soon. I would also like to comment that I have been to Hotel Spa's in the past. Not many but Canyon Ranch in Nevada, Mirival in Arizona and Sea Island in Georgia perhaps my expectations were too high. A couple of other thoughts for the management to consider. The music playing throughout the spa is much too loud. While in the steam room I couldn't go 5 minutes without hearing a very heavy door slamming. The personnel walking around the facility do not take care of the noise they create. They thought nothing of slamming cupboards, drawers and their keys on counters. It was extremely disappointing. I hope they change or they will continue to be as empty as they were today. As I said before I don't go to spa's often but when I do I tend to spend time choosing where I would like to go and make the most of it. read more

Had a classic pedicure today. Unfortunately, I must agree with reviews on this page. My pedicure was over-priced and not a high standard experience. They use a hand machine that removes the dry skin. The machine flies the skin all over the room and the technician. The techician is garbed in a black gown and face mask. Not an esthetic experience by any means. At one point the tech told me to stop what I was doing on my phone and look at the bottom of my cleaned feet. She told me to touch them. I said that I could see, didnt need to touch them. Please dont tell me to stop what I am doing to look at a finished product that is expected. Lastly, gratuity is included in the price as per the establishment. I am a good tipper, I do not want a tip to be automatic. Tips are based on performance and should NOT be an automatic 18.5% whether service is good or not. This place needs to figure it out if they want to earn their place among spas. read more

My experience here was pretty underwhelming considering the spa is housed in a grand hotel. For high priced services I would expect impeccable spa treatments. My prenatal massage was just ok. And there was no foot massage included - such a bummer! I was asked to come 15 minutes early but wasn't able to make it that early. By the time I got in the room, we were five minutes into my appointment time, which was my fault. But then the masseuse proceeded to chat at me about being pregnant for another five minutes. My massage ended precisely on time, so I got about a 35-40 minute massage instead of the 50 minute massage. Just if the appointment is running late and you don't have any wiggle room, please don't be so chatty and take away from my massage. Afterward I had to wait about 20 minutes to use the shower because the facility apparently only has two showers and they needed to be used for special body treatments. Made me feel really special. This spa is kind of a wolf in Sheeps clothing. Don't be fooled by it being at the Wentworth. It's just OK. read more
