Unfortunately, for our last visit we only made it there once as we had just a 14 hour layover. We found this little gem by accident many years ago as we were coming back from a bike tour of the city and decided to give them a try as their selection seemed extensive and their prices seemed lower than many other places near the city center. I can't think of any bad visits that we have had here. The service is always friendly and the food is always great and plentiful. They have traditional German selections and also several Croatian dishes if you are feeling more adventurous. If you have never had the pleasure of Croatian food, you may want to give it a try. It is like a crossroads between Italian, Mediterranean and Turkish. The menu is page after page of endless choices as well as daily specials. Two of our favorites are the mixed grill and schnitzel. There are also pastas and pizzas on the menu which are also quite good. Several years back we had our six boys in Munich, several of whom were teenagers, and every single one found things they liked on the menu. If you're dining solo, as a couple or a family, it's the perfect place. You may want to call ahead or go during the off hours as they can get quite busy.

Our hotel concierge called and they said their kitchen would close at 11 but made a 10:30 reservation. We split a fish entree - a generous portion of grilled whitefish with a tomato barley risotto with broccolini and a mustard vinaigrette. Sooo good! We loved this plate. Finished the meal with fresh coffee and cappuccino and a serving of tonka bean creme brûlée with a ragout of fresh berries. Seriously delicious creme brûlée, perfect texture and taste and the coffee was absolutely delicious. All the veggies and spreads looked fresh and each of the bar height tables had a small array of salt, pepper, ketchup, mayo, and hot sauce. I love being able to tinker with my own sandwich (read: moar hot sauce!) without having to beg the establishment for a revision or a "side of" whatever. We both had the shawerma #3, "Levante," with varying levels of spicy. For very spicy, ask for "sehr scharf!" If we'd had more German, we probably could have also requested specific combinations of veggies. Drinks were mostly limited to water and soft drinks -- no alcohol. Four pastas (and one gnocchi dish) Three pizzas One (delicious) hamburger One (acceptable) club sandwich Two fish entrees One chicken entree One lamb entree Three beef entrees So if, for example, you are vegetarian, you can order the Caesar salad one time, the mushroom pizza the next, then the gnocchi, and pick either of the soups, and then end your week with the ravioli. It's just enough variety to get you through a week. Or if you eat fish, then you can put salmon on your Caesar salad, get the spaghetti with shrimp on your second day, then the pasta with salmon (which is good), the codfish, and finally the salmon entree. It's all carefully balanced to provide just the right amount of options for a typical business traveler on a one-week stay. Pizzas, pastas, and dinner salads all cost around $15 (tip already included, but they'll let you pay more if you want). The entrees run closer to $25. Important note about pizzas: "Peperoni" in Germany is a long, skinny, pale green vegetable. The "peperoni pizza" looks and tastes nothing like what Americans expect. I liked the "Pizza prosciutto di Parma" much better than the peppers-and-sausage one or the mushrooms-and-smoked-cheese one. Their pizzas are big enough that we liked ordering one pizza and one salad, and splitting them. If pizza is on your mind because you're traveling with kids in a certain phase, then the pizzas on the menu might not be a success. However, they will serve plain pasta with no sauce upon request, the french fries are good, and the ice cream is cheap compared to what you would pay in an American restaurant (about $2 per small scoop).

The pizza was just ok... but it could have also been because we were already negative about the restaurant since we had to ask for them to take our drink orders SEVERAL times. They said they had new employees that are still in training, but I think they could have been a little nicer when stating that they don't know instead of just walking away. It is a cool spot with both indoor and outdoor seating... too bad the service is bad. We should have brought our own alcohol. Would I go back? Likely not.
