Just sad to say it is not very good. Ordered the Chicken Curry, Grilled Beef, Sour Cherry Rice and Lentil Soup. The lentil soup arrived and it was very good. Hopes were up. The chicken curry was dropped off and we gave it a taste. The chicken had the texture of rubber and the curry flavor was like no other ever had. Something was just off. Then there was the beef and the sour cherry rice. We have had lots of Middle Eastern grilled beef and this was absolutely horrible. The quality of the beef made it uneatable. Normally the sour cherry rice would have helped the food out a bit but the cherries were almost invisible with no taste. This food was a total disappointment. This food was on the expensive side for the quality. Service was pretty good. Bit of a language barrier but made it through. Can't recommend and will definitely NOT return. read more

Stopped in without reservation and there were about 5 tables that were available. I asked the host if they had seating available and he asked me for how many....it was just mysekf and he replied that no seating was available. Poor customer service . So far the best Kabob I've had in Europe. I'll wait though as I haven't yet tried in London and Paris but that will change in a few weeks. Came in around 830pm and had to wait for seating. Seated promptly and informed the waite of our drink orders. My friend got the lamb Kabob and I got the lamb, kubideh and chicken combo with half rice and half salad. A night of binge drinking and a lot of rice generally don't mix FYI. You'll be spending double just to get a nice buzz if you eat a full plate of rice. We went in not sure what to expect, especially since the only Persian cuisine I'd had was in Florida. I wasn't sure what to expect once we arrived, but the inside is super cute! There are many middle eastern restaurants in this part of Munich, and Shandiz looked the nicest, so we came on in. The space has great decor, and the service was very sweet and efficient. Good food, too. The beef kebabs are good, but the chicken is the star, very thick and moist but with great grilled flavor. Tasty lunch! read more

If you are looking for delicious food, a stunning decor, and great instrumental Persian songs to enjoy your meal with.. This is the place. We had mast o khiar, mast musir, kabab soltani with barberry rice, and kubideh with white rice along with the doogh. The appetizers were delicious and came with barbari bread (wish they were warm, but still yummy), the barg kabab was juicy, and it melted in the mouth. The kubideh was also amazing. The barberry (zereshk) was quite a generous portion, and so good! Lastly we ended it with bastani makhlut with faludeh and traditional Persian saffron ice cream - yum!! We did a search on persian restaurant on yelp in munich and Shandiz turned up to be one of the only three persian restaurants in munich. Drove all the way from Salzburg en route airport just because we were both craving persian food. Upon arriving, I saw people sitting outside and it seemed to be a busy evening when we found two tables available inside. Our waiter was friendly, quick and attentive. We ordered kubedeh plates and Sodani dish. The food was good. I also enjoyed the ambience, it was quite artistically persian. There was a beautiful painting on the wall. One star off for the expensive drinks. We like almost everything about this restaurant and will recommend it to everyone visiting Munich. read more

Bland food, undrinkable wine and average service. We ate here with a desire for some richly flavored middle eastern food as contrast to usual European cuisine. We were very disappointed. The food was bland, no spices or garlic to speak of. The Turkish bread with the hommus wasn't overly fresh. The saffron rice had no saffron - it was white rice with some odd yellow tasting rice sprinkled on top, the nuts and currants were also sprinkled on top and not cooked into the rice. The lamb shish was ok but the sauce was neither garlic nor hot, as proposed by the menu. The lentils were fine to eat but had little flavor. Even the dill sprinkled on top was stale and bland. The waitstaff, all men, seemed rushed despite it being a small place. No water was offered and when we asked for tap water we got a bottle we had to pay for. Given our German is not great we did not push the point. Then the wine... the wine was like paint stripper - undrinkable. while it was probably a mistake to expect good wine in an Iranian restaurant in beer loving Munich, we still expected to be able to drink it. The waiter tried to help by pouring is a new glass but you can't fix terrible wine with a new bottle of the same. read more

I don't know if I would go back, not because of the food but the unfortunate sewage=like bathroom smell that hits you right when you walk into the restaurant is off putting and actually quite disturbing. Had the ghormeh sabzi which is a lamb, spinach and kidney bean stew seasoned with a dried lime. Unfortunately there were only a few pieces of lamb but they were tender despite the lack of meat in the lamb stew. My friend ordered the mixed appetizer platter which was a little bit disappointing according to him. He mentioned that the falafel was very dry. The other sides that came in the appetizer platter were just average. Even though this seemed like a locals' place it seemed a bit lackluster. But maybe the food was very authentic and I have no idea what traditional Persian food should taste like. read more

One dark and rainy night out in Munich, after a day of museums, amazing brewery tours, and driving one of Germany's finest cars on such impeccable roadways, my friend and I sought out on a journey to find a good restaurant to quench of ever growing hunger for kabobs. This is when, after walking several blocks and choosing to pass on brauhaus food again, we came across Shandiz. It was late in the night, and the owner happily welcomed us into his wonderful establishment. The decor was very traditionally Persian, with a modern casual ambience. Starving, we began to peruse menu for the optimal choice of food. The menu was vast with options for any diet or preference, my gaze being drawn to the four-course meal that offered everything my heart desired for a small price of less than €20. A shabart drink to start, just to get the juices flowing. An appetizer of wonderful hummus and yogurt sauce was selected, and delivered fully on its promise. So far, so good. Next up was the #57 kabob; my how it was executed with such precision, grilled and marinated to perfection. Finally, the baghalava to end the the meal with a triumphant flavor of pistachio and whipped cream. If you weren't already aware by now, the dinner was top notch and second to none. Please, for your own sake, stop by this small local restaurant, by yourself or with a significant other you're looking to impress. You will not be disappointed. read more

I really like this place and keep coming back and bringing my friends to try it out. Persian cuisine is a delight, especially at this restaurant. First of all the atmosphere is very cozy and authentic, there are beautiful original holders for sugar on each of the tables, that add to the experience. I love their eggplant appetizer, it's served with freshly made sesame bread, and you are supposed to dip the bread into it, delicious! They have really well cooked meat dishes, as well as good vegetarian choices. I really like the spicy pumpkin. Once I ordered a mild meat dish but asked to make it spicier. The waiter brought me a separate bowl with some spicy sauce. Man, it was a killer! If you ever ask for spicy sauce separately, be very careful! It really burnt my mouth, and I couldn't eat for around 5 mins, haha Price is pretty standard for Munich restaurant - €10-16 for the main dish. Staff are also very friendly and speak English. Very impressed with the food and service here. The kebabs were on point, and we had a vegetarian pumpkin dish that was delicious and flavorful. The "menu" options that include starter, entree, dessert are a good value too. we have been there yesterday and were very much enjoying the great service by the friendly owners and the extraordinary good food!! Long time that I had a dish thaaaaaat good! :) unlike the previous recipient I can not complain about any sewage-like bathroom smell. In the opposite, my girlfriend liked the cleanliness of the washooms and the complimentary perfume there, which in my opinion is a sign of superb service orientation, and something that is (unfortunately) not typical for germany ;o) Definitely a good recomendation. Gleich vorweg: leider bin ich kein Experte für persische Küche und kann insofern die Authentizität des Restaurants nicht beurteilen. Wir waren in einer größeren Gruppe dort, Reservierung (unter der Woche) war kein Problem, wir haben auch kurzfristig einen Platz mehr bekommen. Als Vorspeise gab es vom Haus eingelegte Oliven und Pepperoni mit Fladenbrot. Erstere passabel, letzteres fand ich sehr fein, mit leichter Kruste und innen schön weich. Eine Besonderheit steht unter den Getränken: Sharbat. Beschrieben wird es als Erfrischungsgetränk mit Safran es erinnert geschmacklich ein bisschen an Limonade, hatte eine intensive gelb-grünliche Farbe und es schwammen undefinierbare kleine Dinge (vermutlich Samen) darin herum. Bei einem früheren Besuch waren es Blütenblätter, dies scheint also zu wechseln. Die Auswahl bei den Vorspeisen ist reichlich, es wurden die Falafel und eine persische Nudelsuppe bestellt die Suppe (mit Kräutern, Bohnen und Joghurtsauce) war sehr dickflüssig und geschmacklich ungewöhnlich. Bei den Hauptgerichten kann man sich entscheiden für Spieße mit Beilage (Reis, Pommes, Fladenbrot oder Salat), Fisch, gekochtes Fleisch in Sauce (mit Reis), vegetarischem oder sogenannten Reisgerichten, welche aus einer Mischung von Fleisch, Reis und anderen Zutaten bestehen. Zum Essen: Ich hatte zartgekochtes Lammfleisch in Tomaten-Zwiebel-Sauce mit Okra und Safranreis. Statt Sauce war es eher Suppe, die wie Gulaschsuppe schmeckte Tomaten und Zwiebeln waren höchstens in pürierter Form vorhanden. Leider war nicht nur das Fleisch, sondern auch die Okra weich gekocht. Im Ganzen schwammen allerdings nur fünf Stückchen Fleisch in der Sauce, die qualitativ auch nicht überragend waren. Der Reis dazu war Standard ein Haufen weißer Reis, darauf gelb gefärbter (ob tatsächlich von Safran kann ich nicht beurteilen). Das Reisgericht mit Rosinen und Mandeln war nicht schlecht, ebenso das vegetarische (insgesamt stehen 4 vegetarische Gerichte auf der Karte). Die Hähnchenspieße wurden als zu lange mariniert empfunden, was ihnen wohl eine leicht zähe Konsistenz verlieh. Die Größe der Spieße ist ordentlich, Preise vertretbar. Vom Safraneis als Nachtisch zeigte sich entsprechender Esser begeistert, mir selber war etwas zu viel Rosenwasser darin aber vermutlich gehört das so. Preislich ist es in Ordnung (Vorspeisen ca. 5, Hauptgerichte 10-15 und Nachspeisen um die 4 Euro). Etwas seltsam fand ich, dass wir nicht am Tisch bezahlen konnten, sondern (da wir getrennt zahlten) einzeln zur Theke gebeten wurden. Ansonsten war der Service freundlich, hat nur nach der Vorspeise vergessen einen der Teller wegzuräumen. Das Ambiente ist dezent, die Musik im Hintergrund nicht aufdringlich, stellenweise sicher nicht orientalisch. Fazit: Ein ordentliches Restaurant, aber kein außergewöhnliches. Falls es mal wieder ein Perser sein soll, werde ich vermutlich erst einmal einen anderen probieren. read more
