Love a good spice store! This one was very cute and well organized inside with a large selection of spices all in alphabetical order. They were very reasonably priced and I left with at least half a dozen spices and some pepper jelly. I've had good experiences in the past when I've come in here with others. However, I went inside for the first time by myself. It was a pretty weird vibe, felt rushed and it felt like the store clerks were uncomfortable in helping me. I won't give it a 1 star because of my past experiences but this experience was a turn off. Very similar to a lot of Indian / Mediterranean stores I've been in the bay / NorCal with a tilt on BBQ Rubs. Recommend if you're in the area and have time, but unsure of the service. read more

This is a pretty neat store right off the main road. It's very easy to find, as you can see the sign from the main road. If you're looking for anything having to do with spices, this is your place. They have really interesting flavored salts. They have spicy spices and other spices from around the world that are unique and hard to find. I like that you can buy just a little packet of what you want instead of having to buy a large package. What if you end up not liking it. They also have nice sets of spices that are somewhat themed, like different flavored salts. They also have jars of things and cutting boards and specialty pastas that would make nice gifts. There is even a "local" section of products. The lady working was nice and helpful, a few other people came in while we were browsing. This is a unique shop. If you are looking for a special spice, they are almost guaranteed to have it. I was in here looking for Zataar and there it was. I ended up buying a few other spices as well, including this date syrup that I discovered at a Coffee Festival. Service wise - I give it a 3 stars. I didn't think they were that personable with my transaction. In fact, I felt a little rushed out of there. That sure was a disappointment. I'm sure there might have been a reason (i.e., bad day, too busy, too many customers) - whatever. read more

I love shopping at The Spice Tin every time I am in the area! The stop really enhances my experience. The store is on the smaller side, but is packed with amazing aromas and beautiful colors! The quality of the products are exceptional and worth the price! The staff are friendly. We always come away with some treasure from this store! Friends wanted me to check out this spot because they know how much I love to cook. Very small spice spot. Carrying so many different varieties of spices. I bought Jamaican Charqui. I was surprise they had if. They also sell their house made pesto. So I bought two of those for dinner that night at the ranch. And made salmon with the Jamaican Charqui Spice which turned out really good. Just a tad sweet. The house made pesto here is very delicious. I would definitely buy it again. Matter of fact left the other one at the ranch. I hope it's still there when I get back in a few days. Over all, make sure to visit this place, when in the area. This is absolutely my favorite store on the entire planet. They have such fresh herbs. I bought Herbs de Provence recently and it made the whole kitchen smell fantastic. Their chipotle pepper is fantastic and they have several other chilis to choose from as well. Try the truffle salt, you will have the most amazing risotto. The store owners really love their work and do a fantastic job at making sure they have a wide selection and clean tidy displays. When visiting Murphy's you must come to The Spice Tin. read more

Very neat little store! Who'd thunk you can get spices from all over the world could be found here in Murphy. Very neat display and the owner is knowledgeable and friendly that he will show you what spices are good for which kind of cooking and new recipe and tips for BBQ. We purchased Hungarian paprika (1oz package) and Bourbon Peppercorn Steak Slather in a bottle that we are looking to try at our next BBQ. I also found "seven spices (shichimi to-garashi)" from Japan, which was very fresh ( I can find it from Japanese grocery stores but they are usually dry and stale). Don't be shy, just ask the guy how to spice up your next meal and he'll give you a good pointer. read more

What a treat! I got Hawaiian salt!! Do you know how hard it is to get red Hawaiian salt? Also I got BLACK Hawaiian salt...amazing selection of spices from around the world. There are also custom made blended rubs for sale. sometimes cooking things that are a little out of the ordinary can be a challenge due to finding the right spices, but now that I know this place is here I will definitely make the trip from the Bay Area to get what I need. I took a bunch of photos, but my memory card decided it had been alive long enough and away went my memories. Oh well...live and learn. This store is a must stop when in Murphys! When you walk in, you feel transported to another place. The smell of delicious, zesty spices is all around. The decor is adorable! You can find pretty much anything you want or need with regards to spices here. I always pick up two or three new things. They have sample areas where you can try some of the products before you purchase them which I love. The staff is always very nice and helpful. The prices are a bit high, but it's what you would expect in a little tourist town and I don't like the $10 minimum purchase to use a credit card; sometimes I just want one little thing and there are many people like me who don't always carry cash. I understand the economics of it, but it actually hinders sales because if I have to chose between getting the little item I want by purchasing something else to push it over the $10 limit or just leaving, I will always leave :( The shop itself is cute and definitely worth a look. read more

Very cool little place in Murphy's! The SO loves cooking and we went here to see if there was anything cool we could pick up. The Spice Tin is tucked away from the main street but is definitely worth the walk through if you have time. They offer a huge variety of spices, tucked away in little bags and are very reasonably priced. We were even able to find Siracha salt! We ended up getting the Paella blend (delicious), some bread spreads and some other little odds and ends like a hot sauce made by the Palo Alto Firefighters Assocation. I know that's going to taste awesome on a breakfast burrito. The staff here are very, very nice and give free samples (Bonus). read more

I always stop here whenever I'm in the area, very helpful staff and always friendly. I was just in there recently and was looking for something to help cut the sweetness of brownies, they helped me out and they turned out wonderful. It was brownies with mint chips and topped with chocolate ganache and sprinkled with Mayan sea salt from the spice tin. read more

Came here totally on a whim when wondering around Murphys. It's a small shop off the main drag but there's a sign pointing you to it. There are spices of every sort here which one would imagine. There's also different little trinkets and cooking supplies. The prices here are crazy and I paid about 16 dollars for my treats. I got a merlot salt, a truffle Parmesan seasoning, a smoked paprika and a chili powder with habaneros in it. I've already tried one (the truffle ) and it was scrumptious!! The workers here are so friendly and helpful. I wish I could have this place loser to my house here in Sacramento. I'll make sure to stop by next time I'm in town! read more

Stumbled upon this little gem of a spice shop after a day of adventuring in Murphy's on Mother's Day. I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful array of delicious spices and herbs available to appease my highly cultured taste buds. I tried numerous delectable samples, including but certainly not limited to the amazing fresh pesto, habanero hot sauce, bourbon vanilla sugar, scorpion venom (mixed chili pepper enriched sea salt), and ghost chili salt. I bought all of the above, plus more, throwing all caution to the wind and throughly tantalizing my enamored palate. I'm not even sure I can write a review that doesn't repeat what others have already said. We were walking up and down Main checking out the different shops when I saw this place from across the street. I immediately proclaimed, "Oh we are SO going in there." I am a spice junkie. I love to buy spices, especially ones I've never tried or even heard of before and find new recipes for them. I can't get enough: our teeny tiny apartment spice cupboard overfloweth. This place was a wonderland, small but delightful. Every spice here has a sample bottle for you smell, and then small amounts packaged in small ziplock bags so you don't have to buy a large amount of a spice you may find out that you don't like. They have tools of the trade as well: salt spoons, salt blocks & bowls, mortar and pestle sets of all sizes, spice mills, grinders, books, spice containers, dippers, spice kits, etc. The variety of salts was blissfully overwhelming: I finally settled on a habanero salt and a smoked bacon one. The rest of my purchase included a deliciously aromatic smoked bourbon paprika, harissa, and curry vindaloo. And the staff? Quite lovely! They even gave me a free sample of lemongrass with my purchase. I can't wait to come back here! read more
