It is only a small place but when it is at capacity it tends to sound like an old man's public bar. So if you are into good food but not a noisy environment - then do yourself a favour and grab some takeway! The food is amazing, from the slow cooked pork belly, to the specialty wings and the amazing fries and onion rings. Plenty of craft and imported beer option to wash your meal down with! The service is adequate, but not anything special, there is probably a bit of room for improvement. You know that thing, where you sense people just love thier jobs. I wasn't feeling it at Hudson's.

This side is taken up by Communal which is a bar come bistro come sit down dining space. It's also joined by Meat & Eat, Chow Down and Cafe Brisbane. Behind the subway tiles, yellow accents and wood panelling and just enough design sensibility to balance it all, is a well-polished casual dining option. Communal is bringing affordable and decent quality to city-workers, tourists and general punters alike. There's nothing scary or particularly unfamiliar on the menu. Steaks, seafood, pizzas, burgers, and your standard Caesar or Greek salads feature along with trusty chips and aioli. And it's this that makes it a great choice for entertaining anyone and everyone. It's not going to polarize too many if you're dining in a group. And, if you're like me who fights the "this is too fancy" fight every time your folks are in town, then bookmark Communal - they'll feel right at home with their hearty steak sandwich while still secretly appreciating they tried something new. I dined at lunch and opted for the greek lamb salad with heirloom tomato, citrus olives, haloumi and verjuice. The servers were so rude they made my friend actually cry, and when she wrote a review they rated it one star and were incredibly rude in their response. I then shared my experience as well, and was told I was banned until I removed the review and apologised to the staff. I did remove the review, but after being accosted on the street at a totally different venue by the servers who read my previous review, I decided to instead just never go there again. I am the least Karen-esque person I know, and the treatment my friend I received was so traumatic and uncalled for I remember it like yesterday a whole year later. The waitresses on duty were so lovely and polite. She explained the flag system they have. Just pop the flag atop the menu holder and it signals to them you would like to ask them a question / order / ask them the meaning of life. This worked fairly well with but a handful of patrons, but I do wonder how it goes when they're at capacity. Defeating the very purpose of dining in an American-style venue, I ordered the Mad Dog Tortilla Salad - grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, smoky bacon, tomatoes, avocado, corn, beans (green), goats cheese, sour cream, house made dressing and tortilla chips. It's a hefty salad and it's probably an illusion to think it's remotely healthy, but I did figure it was more virtuous than a burger or hoagie. As far as salads go, it was filling, a good balance of all ingredients but, and this is entirely personal preference, something this robust needs to be served in a bowl not a silver platter. I winkled my nose at my DH's choice of Long Island Iced Tea, because I was being a snob as that drink was my 'young, stupid, cheap, and often watered-down preferred drink' - but I am pleased when I tasted it -- good mix and definitely not watered down (just don't let the ice melt, k?). We also ended our meal sharing 'Mum's Milk Punch' (my original desire for one of their Chocolate Peanut Butter milkshake was denied by DH - he's looking out for me). In all, we have been impressed, especially as it is a sister restaurant to La Quinta next door (we weren't terribly impressed with the food there). They have the same ordering system where when you're ready to order, put up the flag on the Longhorned cattle head at your table.
