The transition from the Nest to kindergarten has been great- I truly believe it is because of the care they gave him and the boundaries they held. We planned on sending my daughter as well, but a late change to her IEP modified our plans. Despite unenrolling her from the Nest with very notice, the management took the time to understand our situation and did not penalize us for the late withdraw. In an industry that unfortunately has a high turnover rate, this facility did not. We saw the same beautiful caregivers each and everyday our daughter was entrusted in their care. She grew to know and love them as an extended family and we saw how happy she was with them. As she advanced from the infant room, to toddlers, she visited her former teachers everyday. She started her day with greetings and hugs and insisted on saying goodbye to them and giving them hugs as we left for the day. Their love for our child was unmistakeable. Any daycare can simply "watch a child" while you are at work. This "home away from home" goes so far above and beyond that. They teach your child sharing, social skills, interactive play, science, reading, art, creativity, and allow them to be kids in a safe, nurturing environment. I truly cannot say enough about Ms. Jackie and her staff. She has found a way to hire, and retain, angels to take care of their children. As a parent, the hardest decision you will have to make is choosing a daycare to care for your children in your absence. I recall my son's first week, which was hard for him to transition to a new place, and the teacher would hold him until he was okay. I called the center later that day and asked how he was doing. They were happy to go check and let me know. When I went to pick him up, I would watch him from outside the room and evaluate how well he was doing in the class. While in the 2s class my son did get bitten and Miss Jackie was right on top of it and spoke with the other child's parents proptly. They keep confidential all children involved. My son did pick up and learn some less desirable things from the other children. However, I was very clear with setting expectations for his behavior and it was a great opportunity to teach him that he must do what is right regardless of what his friends are doing. I know all the teachers in the center, not just my son's. He loves his teachers! We recently moved and there is another Kindercare that is closer to our home, but i decided to keep him at Newington Forest because he loves it there. Something seriously needs to be done about this. They take no accountability for any of their actions.

When we figured out where we would be living we started our search for daycares and wound up deciding to do a tour of this daycare. The daycare seems very nice and I really liked what they had to offer so we decided to get on the waitlist for the summer. We were directed to go to their website and pay a $100 waitlist fee. We were also told that because we were military we shouldn't have a hard time getting into the school and the summer had good turnover. When the summer came we contacted the school because we were a couple months away from needing daycare and had not heard a single thing from them. I called, spoke to someone who claimed they could help with enrollment and they confirmed they had us on the waitlist and they said yes, you definitely will have a spot even if it's maybe a week after you requested.I followed up again a couple weeks later and heard the same thing but nothing was ever solidified, it was always don't worry, we'll call you. Today, 10 months after my baby was born I can say I've never heard from them. They just took our $100 and never followed through. Being a first time mom and being stressed out about going back to work I didn't want to continue to stress out about maybe getting into this daycare and having to hound them so we decided to shop around. We found a fantastic daycare that we love in downtown Alexandria. It still irritates me that they took $100 from us and didn't bat an eye. I knew going into it that it was a non-refundable $100, however I expected at the very least for me to hear about getting in or not- even if it was a rejection. It's frustrating how stressful it was for me when it didn't need to be so be warned- prepare to have to keep on top of this daycare or even just waste $100! Good luck!
