The Stag were advertising $1 oysters, and who can can no so that, unless you don't like oysters. Upon arriving on a Friday night, I headed to the bar area with a couple of friends to try out these $1 oysters or the $1.50 kilpatrick oysters, which were only served in the bar area as of the 22nd of April while stocks last, from 12 to 9pm. There was a live band, with great music and was not overly packed on a Friday night. I found a booth which was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering 18 fresh oysters and 18 kilpatrick ones. $1 Coffin Bay Oysters I was quite surprised on how big they were as I thought they would be of small size. I drizzled the fresh oysters with large wedges of lemon and they were firm, plump and full of flavour. $1.50 Kilkpatrick oysters - These came out hot and cooked and sprinkled with Worcestershire sauce while top with cripsy bacon and parsley. These were delightful. By the end of the night, between the 3 of us, we had about 90 oysters. The staff and customers were in hysterics that we could eat that much but hey it was well worth it and would definitely come back again for the oysters. Thumbs up!

Ok we weren't going to test the beer garden - it was 8 degrees - but just letting you know there are plenty of spots to sit depending on your mood. Pork belly, fish fingers looking more like generous fists, a chicken pie and franks dogs were our choices - and we all felt the meals were generous, different & delicious. Wed night is a Franks Dogs and beer special night & there's also mystery beer and mulled wine on the menu - an adventure in every glass! I'll be back for the beer garden in the warmer months - well worth a visit.

A great friend of mine had some going-away drinks here a few months ago and I was surprised to find a really pleasant pub - a little scruffy but in a sweet way. Whoever is in charge has done a great job making the most of the beat-up old premises with a collection of beautiful old lamps and comfy furniture. Plus the drinks are pretty cheap too. I felt something in the air - as though this place was just on the verge of becoming Adelaide's new hipster haunt. A bit of investigation of their Facebook page seems to reveal just that - an intention to draw people in with micro-brewery beers, ciders, DJ nights and live music. I haven't of much going on yet, but I'd definitely be willing to come back here - nice lighting does wonders.

However, as I was wandering through the city one afternoon with my friends, finishing off the pubs that needed to be finished off, we came upon this place. Actually, since we hadn't had any lunch we decided to stop off here for a meal, which basically meant that I landed up with a schnitzel. Yeah, it was quite nice, and there were also some decent beers on tap. The pub itself isn't that huge, but it is one of those pubs that of have been to on an infrequent basis. Oh, they also have a bottle shop just around the side.

I used to live a couple of blocks away from The Kings (previously the Kings Head) and must say I didn't go there overly often. I have been a few times of late, due to friends parties and the odd chance that I just happened to be around the area, and I must say I like it more than I used to. I think the crowd has a lot to do with my enjoyment of a bar, and it is certainly less pretentious than it used to be. The interior is pretty nice, with an overall rustic feel with some polished elements that lift the place up a notch or two. The Front bar is my favourite area (which is normal for me), and out the front is a really funky booth style design that kicks on a warm summer night. They have also made some kegs into tables (see the piccy) which really works. Right I'll put my interior designer silk scarf away for the time being and pop open a stubby. The beer selection is just how my fellow Yelper, Tegan H, describes....pretty darn spiffy! I tried a few myself, the last time I was sitting on the corner stool, but ended up with sticking with a couple of tried and true drops! I always feel that any pub where you are comfortable having a drink is handy in my book, but be warned that some of the brewskis (and spirits) can be a little costly (ATM's are dangerous!).

In my mind, Coopers Alehouse has always been a go to spot for schnitzel, so that's what I came for. Our table ordered a chicken parmi, a beef schnitzel and a fish & chips. Didn't realize that schnitzels don't come with salad so we also ordered side salad. The parmi was ok, wasn't as juicy as I remembered it to be. The beef schnitzel (with Diane sauce) was a bit underwhelming - there were definitely chunks of tendons or something, making it hard to cut and chew. The fish (flat head) was actually the most expensive dish - the batter was good and the fish was tender, so that was good. The chips were fresh and tasty too. Overall it was a good meal but I wish the schnitzels were better, since that was the focus of my meal.

Medallions of seared spiced king fish loin topped with salmon roe arranged with a slaw of fennel, chicory, orange and grapefruit chunks, and more king fish chunks. All complimented by a to die for black squid ink garlic aioli!! I'm full... and the sparkler is kicking in... I will definitely be back for more if I am in Adelaide!! Thanks to all the staff too. Really on point.

Well, having been thinking about the concept of the 'Old Man Pub' when I glanced at this place…read morethinking about how I should describe it that term seems to fit perfectly. Okay, it does like in the shadow of the Arkaba, but it has something that the Arkaba lacks - the tackiness of your classic old man pub, complete with the old men sitting at the bar. I haven't been here much, though I did land up here for a function years ago (having been dragged along by a friend to an Amway convention) but other than that this was just a pub we went past on our way out the hills. As a pub it's nothing special, but it does have a nice beer garden, and the old man tackiness does give it some character.

A small negative is the inside decor and the actual front of the venue looking a little run-down and outdated, so it definitely isn't a "trendy" pub. I would recommend this place for your standard bevvy and delicious burger that are reasonably priced, a joke and a smile from the bar staff and the fact that you'll never have to wait for a table, instead you can get one straight away so you relax to your hearts desire!

However, what it does have is craft beers, and not the faux ones released by the major brewers either.
