We came into the restaurant for lunch as a group of 9 visiting from a cruise ship and didn't feel we were greeted quite NOT welcome as we were seated outside the dining area when there were room inside the dining area. Additionally we were only offered bar menus and when we requested for a regular dining menu, we were told that they could not provide then due to a wedding event that they are catering to and could not accommodate us. If this was the case, then, why didn't they tell us that when we fist walk into the restaurant and seated us outside. I thought at first It was quite odd to seat us outside when the dining area was nearly empty; but after they told us that they could not accommodate our dining menu, that's when we realized there is some type of racial and age discrimination going on that we -- as as senior Asian citizen group sensing. Without creating any further commotion, we decided to walk away and take our business elsewhere. As a season cruiser who like to enjoy fine dining, I would NOT recommend this place!!! We went during the weekday for lunch. They have an amazing patio that over looks Adelaide it's really nice. They also have an inside eating areas. There are little cabana areas which I think you can reserve. The wine selection is great and we had a pizza which was great! They have a DJ on the weekend nights. You need to be dressed. read more

If I could have gone into the kitchen and hug the chefs tonight, I would have. But that'd be a little creepy. We had the "let us feed you" option for $65 pp which was great value! You can choose menu items you'd like included or excluded. GET THE SALT & VINEGAR POTATOES! Service was flawless. Staff were very confident, relaxed and experienced. Cocktails were absolutely spot on, perfectly balanced and delicious. We had the 2kw, the pickled pineapple and the stormy like summer (hot & spicy). Yum. Wine list was impressive. I had the 2014 Clare Valley Vine Mind Shiraz Malbec which was also sublime! View was lovely also, luckily we had a perfect night for it. 2KW is fantastic! 8 stories high, it is a gorgeous rooftop bar/restaurant that offers an amazing view of the River Torrens including some of Adelaide's most famous landmarks, The Festival Center, Adelaide Oval and St Peter's Cathedral. The outside area is quite spacious with a number of large (10 seater) booths available for hire. There is also live music/djs and gorgeous seats, plants and festoons creating a wonderful chilled atmosphere. The restaurant area is both trendy and classic - not the silver service I was expecting but still exceptional service with many staff to answer any questions you may have, including their knowledgeable sommelier James. We sat at the 'chefs' table which allowed you to see into their tiny kitchen and see all the chefs at work. It's quite incredible to see and lovely to have the opportunity to chat with Head Chef Nick if he's not too busy! 2KW offer pizzas and other small foods if you sit on the deck, however in the restaurant dishes are larger and recommended for sharing. We had the tuna sashimi (amazing!), croquettes, slow cooked baby octopus (best I've ever had) and duck (sooo good! The sauce was amazing!) We also had a bottle of wine and for dessert the Panna Cotta (HIGHLY recommend oh my god yum! If you love honey get this) and also the stone fruit which was equally as pleasing. Do yourself a treat and get to 2KW ASAP! It's busiest on a Friday or Saturday so head on up on a Sunday if you're after a more chilled experience! read more

The first thing I loved about 2KW was the adventure just to get there. First you have to find the door that leads you into the lobby, then the lift, that leads you to arrows, that lead you to another lift, that leads you to more arrows... And finally you reach the restaurant and feel like you've discovered a new planet or something!! Our group of 3 hadn't made a booking for lunch and we were lucky to get a spot at the long window table (perhaps arriving when they opened helped us there). Our waiter was unbelievably attentive and even continued to act interested when one of my companions launched into a rather long talk about her heritage!! He was also great at helping us select how many dishes to order and explaining a lot of the menu to us. One of the ladies dining with me was pregnant so he whipped up a non alcoholic cocktail for her and also helped us know which menu items to avoid. I appreciate it when your waiter has this sort of extra knowledge! Despite being a fairly fancy place, 2KW's food is designed for sharing, which I loved because I wanted to try so many things! We ended up ordering 2 entrees and 3 medium plates to share and there was plenty of food. I could definitely have eaten more but also definitely did not need to! The food itself was amazing. Everything we ordered was just delicious, and seemed so fresh. The standout for me was probably the mushrooms, and as a starter the olives were delicious and a very generous serve. At the end of the meal all of us felt satisfied but not heavy - the food was filling but light and not drowning in oil or fat. We were all very happy when our meal (including drinks) came out to about $35 each. For the sort of food we had, along with the amazing venue and excellent service, I felt this was great value. It didn't take 2KW long to get popular when they first opened. I remember the first week there were lines down the street at night. I think that it's location played a massive part in this. It is set on a rooftop with a view over the Government House Grounds & Memorial Gardens. The view is absolutely gorgeous! In fact, it is worth waiting in a line to see if you haven't already. But it is not all about the view at 2KW. A view is nice, but I am a foodie and I want my taste buds impressed as well. My companions and I decided to order a few meals and share. I love dining with people who share their meals, that way I get to try more. We had some marinated McLaren Vale Olives, can't go wrong with that starter. It was complimented with fresh chillies and pickled vegetables. Then onto the Octopus & Chorizo. It's like the pair were meant to be together. The saltiness of the Chorizo almost brought more flavour out of the Octopus. It was grilled and cooked well without being chewy. As a treat, steak tartare, well seasoned and fresh. Then onto the Roast Duck. Anytime I see duck on the menu, I find it hard to say no. Glad we ordered it as the marinate perfect, spiced and salty. However, I feel that the duck was over cooked. It was a little dry. Might have just been left to cook a little too long. Onto my favourite, the Kangaroo Shank. Well, kudos to the chef. A sweet marinate that detracts the gaminess of Kangaroo. The meat fell from the bone and sauce was absorbed by the cous cous below. I would return for that meal alone and I recommend it to anyone coming to this restaurant. As for the beverage list, well there is a fine choice. Everything from very upmarket wines and beer to the more affordable kinds. So, there is something to suit most budgets. Table service is attentive and friendly. If you have a special occasion or want to show off, this is where you take your guests. read more

Was more then overwhelmed, when the portion sizes of each dish got slightly to much for two people. But I can say that each one where spot on, tasted and presented more then perfect. June 2016 update- Winter makeover inside and outside, 2KW even cooler. Food and wine now dearer and smaller serves. Crazy good deserts! All the food great except one dish with the whole cooked prawns was terrible, whole prawns with the head are ok on a bbq or boiled but in a pan cooked dish they impart the smell and taste of the part you don't eat, hence the dish smelt and tasted of 'it ' and they were mushy as well. World class view, surprisingly casual yet very good food and wine and nice staff, people complain about $14 beers on the out door deck but that's your admission fee and you have wood fired oven pizza if you want a cheap food option. Considering the view it's amazing and in the restaurant they have nice wines for $12 a glass. Tommy ruff was great. Do tapas if you have a group. read more

The view at night is gorgeous. There is an area for those who want a quite night with a few best friends, kids are also welcomed. But it was really packed and not enough seats. At some point we had to squeezed through a gap between people and a table and we almost knocked down others drinks. This is the first time I've been here. I ordered the 2KW drink. It was alright, not as good as I thought it would be. The only thing I didn't really like about this place is that the DJ was not really doing anything at all, he was only playing some music, didn't even try to mix some records. My partner and I ventured up to 2KW for a couple of birthday cocktails on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and I am so glad we did. I'd been avoiding this venue like the plague, expecting the staff and clientele to be pretentious and cold (I am very judgy, and typically prefer a dive bar to anything to fancy shmancy). But, I could not have been more wrong. The staff were friendly, approachable and efficient. The clientele varied and dynamic. Groups of old friends, Tinder dates, and everything in-between filled the gorgeous roof top. The view is undeniably the major drawcard here, with 180 degree views of North Adelaide, including Adelaide Oval and Government House. It is a shame that the majority of the seating faces away from the view, perhaps a bit of a design flaw, although it's not that difficult to pivot and take it all in. The decor is a little odd, with wolf printed cushions and fur lined seats... not really sure what they were going for here. But that aside, the drinks are plentiful, quality and tasty... but come at a price, with the cheapest beers being $9.50 and some ranging to close to $30! Spirits start around the $9.50 mark, and cocktails tend to be $18-20. The food I can't comment on, but it looked damn tasty. I'll be back for another special drinks and nibbles I'm sure. read more

Took my partner here for a date night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Took the advice of reviewers online by ordering two small, two medium and two large plates too share (which we ended up getting one medium and one large instead, as there were no large vegetarian options) and we were so full that we didn't finish it! Definitely would have been fine with just two small and two medium plates between the two of us. Food was yum! Loved the mushrooms and the falafel salad! Presentation was fabulous. Went on a Sunday night and it was a bit loud inside... Not really ideal for a romantic date night. Can't see the view unless you go outside either. Not sure why they're so pretentious with the dress code, as it's more of a chilled out 'hipster' vibe inside. Felt a bit silly with a nice dress and heels on. Would return again, but perhaps not as dressed up. read more

I work on the upper levels of the building opposite 2KW and have been observing with interest the work on the rooftop bar for some time. Finally, it was completed and some friends and I decided to meet there for drinks and check it out prior to the Fringe Parade. On the day in question, it was roasting hot. When we got there just before 4pm, the booths were naturally all occupied, and the area overlooking North Terrace with the misting spray was packed. There was seating available at the southern end but no shade would have left us charred. We sat on a table in the restaurant bit and were swiftly despatched as it was only for people eating. Eventually we got on a smaller table in the drinking half and got down to the business of actual drinking. Let it be known, it's not cheap which will keep the riff-raff out. A glass of sav blanc and a pint cost $18.50. The fitout is nice, with wooden features and touches of rose copper. However, the design seems to be flawed in that the booths all face inward so the backs are to the view. We agreed that we may be spoiled given we have a similar view from our building so that was no real stand-out to us. Staff were friendly and the crowd was older. It was interesting and nice to check it out from the inside, rather than above, however with so many interesting bars and venue options popping up all over Adelaide, it's unlikely I'd rush back. Also surprised to see no Friday lunch service . . . ? Missing a trick there! read more

Being a rooftop bar the view was nice, but it was a little too small/crowded for my liking. The crowd was older than I was expecting, which was nice. Might have been something to do with how expensive the drinks were! Service was good and bad. The young man behind the bar was very helpful and friendly, but we were given the wrong bottle of wine and it took about 10-15 minutes for them to make my cocktail! I started to think they'd completely forgotten about me. Had a sneak peek at the restaurant menu and it looked quite nice. I'll definitely come back to try the restaurant, but I won't be rushing back to the bar anytime soon. read more

A busy place with stunning views of Adelaide. Taking two elevators to get there was novel. Upon arrival the place was buzzing with diners, group bookings and people having after work drinks. A very helpful waiter made himself known to us quickly and after asking if he could fit us in for dinner he went off to see what he could do for us. We bought a beer at the outside bar and upon taking the first gulp our waiter returned signalling that he could fit us in to the restaurant. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Everyone in this place knows their role and how to execute it. The menu was mostly based around sharing and with the help of our gorgeous waitress we decided upon our meal for the night. Our first dish came out rather quickly. It was a slow roasted octopus dish with kipfler potatoes, chorizo and a romesco sauce that was slightly tangy and complimented the octopus perfectly. A superb dish. Our main meal was the lamb shoulder with lemon and mint caramel and soy beans. What can I say other than... delicious. The caramel reduction was perfectly sweet and complimented the lamb just as well as a marriage made in heaven. We also had asparagus with parmesan custard, cured duck egg and truffle oil, , an excellent complimentary dish to our lamb. The wait staff must be complimented on their exemplary service, constantly checking your drinks and that everything was fine however not at a degree that can be sometimes a little over the top as you may get in other establishments. Our original waiter who helped us obtain a seat came to us as we were finalising the bill and ensured we had had a good evening. Talking about the bill, given the service, the quality (and quantity) of the food, the pricing was very reasonable indeed. I would have no hesitation recommending this place however my advice is to book first. Well done and bravo!!!! read more

Who do these people think they are ? I hate coming to a small city and bagging it out for not being up to standard etc... But this is not the case, Adelaide has some great restaurants and bars. Just not this throw back to the 90's , it's actually not the environment or the food, it's the officious security who check you out at the door like you might not fit in. They look worse than the customers btw. It's also the customers they attract, people who actually think they'd superior because they can pay for an over priced beer and actually made it past the idiots on the door. It is truly outstanding. I'm told that the trick in the hospitality industry is to exceed the patron's expectations. We were blown away! Exquisite food, innovative, casual but sophisticated. An unexpected delight! We gave it a full 5 stars. And as for dessert, the Chocolate Mouse is a tantalizing concoction with amazing back-tastes of raspberries and cherries, served with chocolate and almond cookie slabs and best consumed with your eyes firmly closed to let the taste buds really do their thing. The view alone is worth stopping by for - come for the view and, if you must, grab a drink or some food. We stopped by for some after dinner drinks and had a thoroughly pleasant experience - although I've certainly heard from friends that the food is too pricy for what you get and that the staff can be rude - however our experience was dandy! The staff were friendly (although we had little interaction) and my partners red (the house GSM) was a very good drop. I ordered an affogato and it was perfect - noting on the odd things (as always) I particularly enjoyed the platter and mug that it was served in - if anyone knows where they buy their crockery, let me know, I'm a fan! I can't comment on the pricing as our friend grabbed the round for us but I can imagine the experience to enjoying the view and atmosphere is worth paying a few dollars more for. The heaters worked well in the cool autumn evening however the balcony area may be a no go in winter - perhaps a good chance to check out the restaurant. read more

Went last night for a couple of drinks before venturing out to Jamie's for dinner. This place has the best vibe and amazing views. I had a peach cocktail and we sat looking out across the north of Adelaide. It has a kind of "Melbourne" feel to it as it was really hip and cool. Came here last a Friday afternoon and enjoyed the atmosphere and sunshine. We got here around 3pm and was busy but by 5.30pm it was packed! Limited space outside in the bar area and was very warm sitting in the sun but the spray mist assisted in cooling us down. There is a restaurant and large booths which I was told can be reserved but also have a minimum spend attached to them. The view is its best feature and is breath taking but high above many other buildings and unrestricted to the North. Absolutely makes the venue and added to our experience. It is a little confusing to enter as you enter the lobby through a small glass door to the office building and then take the lift to the 8th floor (from memory I think 8th) then around to another lift then into the lobby of the venue. I have also been told can be hard to gain entry at times when busy and can be harder for males to enter without women during busier periods but that's nothing new at most venues. Was with 13 people and one of us was not wearing dressy enough shoes, he was wearing a collared shirt, jeans and brand new clean classy sneakers. Had he been wearing $10 sandals we would have been admitted. Either way we were all denied from going in due to one person's shoe choice. Dont agree with the seating arrangement at this place. We booked a table for two a few weeks earlier for a special occasion that was at 8pm (as they only take bookings at 6pm and 8pm). We arrived about an hour early to have some drinks, to which the bar was packed and there was zero seating, but this is to be expected. We figured we could make our way to the table 10 minutes early as you can at almost anywhere else, but were disappointed that we couldn't as our table was still occupied. In the end we werent seated until 5 past 8, and when we were finally shown to our seats, we were seated at the window bench on the walkway, not even at a table! Very disappointed. To make matters worse, everyone walking past had a front row seat to us eating, and we even had some patrons plonk their wine bucket in front of us and proceed to drink and talk while we were trying to eat. This whole experience was the worst of the night. Our waitress was splendid, the food was quite great (I recommend the spiced half duck) and the bar area was a great atmosphere, but Im not sure how I feel about the whole 'shared meal' experience. I wouldn't think a fine dining restaurant would have such a terrible seating arrangement and only offer shared meals. Maybe the owners have conflicting ideas in mind, something for them to think about. read more
