Cafe Football is going to be the place to be during the World Cup…read more Yes, it has stiff competition in the form of the nearby casino which boasts 27 screens (so I'm told), but this sports bar-cum-restaurant opened by former Manchester United team-mates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs tops it in terms of all things related to The Beautiful Game. For a start, you're greeted by a display full of football boots the moment you enter the cafe, some of which are autographed by Ryan Giggs. The menu is divided into sections such as The Kick-Off and Terrace Food. The walls outside the toilets are signed by the owners. The walls are covered with football quotes. And so on. There was one big screen in the bar when I was there, while there were smaller screens for the more football-crazy for each of the tables and in front of the bar stools. I understand that they're planning to put more screens in place in time for the World Cup, which will probably boost the viewer to screen ratio from 8:1 to 4:1 or something along those lines. Now, I didn't try their food (mainly standard comfort fare), and it appears that they do have a fairly extensive wine and beer selection at prices you tend to get at a Westfield. I'm not too bothered by details like that when there's football on the telly.

I began with the chicken wings, easily the best I've ever had anywhere! They're immense, really crispy on the outside & very tender on the inside. Result! I then moved onto their version of the sausage roll - black pudding and pork, encased in a crunchy pastry and served with a side of home-made beans (mixed with pulled pork!!) I finished off with the Vimto trifle - given I believe the mighty Vimto to be the nectar of the Gods, it was always going to go down well!
