First time at the Steel Grill. Both my wife (shrimp) and I (burnt ends and cheese sandwich) thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

It was ok tonight me and family came in just apps, the steak nacho and the bacon berbon wings. The service was ok but the food was on the bad side, the wings would have been great if it was not for the burnt bacon the bacon didn't look burnt however it had a burnt after taste. Now for the nachos if we wanted old stale chips and cold cheese and steak that was old and cold and an up charge on guacamole the was just smashed up avocado with no seasoning mixed in. I would have gone to Perkins. Your kitchen staff is not very sanitary they had no glove on there hands and one of the cooks I saw wipe there head to get the sweat off and then using there hand to reach into a pan to garnish the top of an potato nachos. As a Chef myself I would be very upset with my kitchen staff for sending out that food, but it has been over 6 years since I have eaten here maybe this is the new standards for this place. I was working in the middle of this friendly, small, high plains town called Scotts Bluff, Nebraska (they even have a National Park not too far from this restaurant!) and was told to check out this place...some other guys I worked with out here raved about the steaks at this place and I figured it IS Nebraska cows we're talking about! Well they were right! My first time there I got a small rib eye and it was pretty damn good. The sides are pretty good too. Not a bad menu with decent prices and a variety of items if you are not up for killing some cows! I had a shrimp cocktail appetizer once (surf and turf a la Western Nebraska Panhandle style) and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and size of shrimps. It's a cool concept in this place. Part farm town, part sports bar, and part fine dining all mixed in this place. I was treading the line on giving it 4 stars because the service here is spotty. It's all friendly...don't get me wrong I'm not a high-maintenance city slicker (well not ALWAYS, ha ha) but a lot of reminders and missed orders took place. In all fairness though, this place seemed to have a younger, new wait staff and they are always busy so that can be easily tweeked with some time and veteran leadership. I really liked this place. The service was decent...enough. Would have been better if we were locals, but whatever. The food was good. We started with the steak nachos, which had rare to med bites of steak atop a heaping mound of cheesy goodness. Jalapenos which are one of my favorite things were bountiful. The side salad was perfect for me after sharing the nachos, but my friends all ordered steaks which cooked to order looked pretty good. Arriving at this place I thought it was going to be phenomenal as there were a lot of people there. We ordered some hot wings for our appetizer, and I was pretty dissappointed. The sauce was very weak and the chicken was very rubbery. It also came out luke warm, the chicken must have sat there for a while as we waited for a long time for our food to come out. I also ordered their Sirloin Steak cooked Medium Rare, it came out Medium Well, which isn't a huge loss, but the steak itself was not very good. The steak was too dry (obv), and it had NO flavor. I also had the sauteed onions and mushrooms, and if it wasn't for those I would have needed to use steak sauce. I don't like to use steak sauce unless the meat does not taste good or does not have any seasoning. They essentially jsut threw the steak on the grill without adding anything to it, and it tasted as if it was old or frozen. It was not a good steak. My coworker ordered the Rib Eye and felt the same way. He was not pleased with his steak and we were shocked as everyone we spoke to said this was the best Steak House in the area. read more

Food was good. Waiter was good, atmosphere was cool but loud. Not best for family conversation and it's dark. Worst part was the over 45 min wait AFTER they took our order to receive the food. Spoke with an employee they said that's norm when they are busy. And the are usually busy. And it's a little on the pricey side. Would I eat the food again yeah would I go back by my suggestion no. Never went here much as the business location had gone through a lot of owners in the past. Ate here a few times and the last time was over a year ago with a friend and her family (mother, her daughter, and sister, etc.). Never will go back again because of the service from the waitress from start to finish. Friends daughter had small bit of mold on her bun, this was replaced and corrected, but when the time for the bill came no one offered any kind of discount for having to wait for bad food to be fixed and then when the waitress was asked to provide a discount she argued the menu cost of each item on the plate that wasn't wrong...she got only 1 tip from me "Treat the customers better" especially when it comes to a $4.50 kid meal item. Otherwise horribly crowded and noisy so not my kind of place... P.S. This was last year so maybe the waitress has been fired, but I just won't even go back to find out. read more

We read lots of negative reviews, so I wasn't sure about the Steele Grill, but I don't agree. You have to have the right expectations. It's in Scotts Bluff, not the foodiest place in the world. The Ribeyes were great, super tasty. We wanted to try the ribs but they were out. Lively bar area, we sat in the quiet dining area. Service was so-so and same with atmosphere, but I think that's par for the course in Scotts Bluff. Salads were weak. I would definitely come back for another steak and to check out the ribs, but I doubt I'll ever get back to Scotts Bluff. read more

Fine dining area and a bar area with lots of TV's with sports usually on. Good atmosphere. Can be pretty packed/busy at peak times. Prices are good for the large portions served. Good steak place in Gering. The menu states they cut and age their steaks in house. I ordered the ribeye with a baked potato which was very good. Other items on the menu were ribs (highlighted), burgers, filet, New York Strip and many other items. A full sized motorcycle hangs on the wall directly above the bar. I can visualize this as a popular stop on the way and/or back from Sturgis. The front end of a Chevy looms large over the main doorway. There are several TVs broadcasting various sporting events. Also, for you Keno fans, Keno monitors are present. Not too noisy and it seems like this is a hangout for regulars. read more

We came in for lunch today and I was anxious to try this place! My husband has been a couple times but I had never tried it before. He loves the potato nachos and says their steaks are incredible. We started off with the steak nachos and were not disappointed! They are HUGE and topped with a ton of thick cut chunks of super juicy, tender steak. Probably some of the best nachos I've ever had but be warned...they are huge! We then split the cowboy burger, which was good but nothing really to write home about. We were both pretty stuffed from the nachos and splitting a burger was more than enough for us. Fries were hot and crispy and the service was great, although there were a bunch of flies in the restaurant but I think that just might be the norm in scottsbluff. I used to enjoy their infamous steak nachos here and I thought the atmosphere was reasonable. The last time I went in though, I had a problem and it was a simple thing that didn't need to be a problem. I had ordered my meal and as a side, I ordered some mixed vegetables. Well, the entree was fine, but the vegetables were burnt. I don't mean "smoked" or anything, I mean they were flat-out burnt. I'm 45 years old and I know burnt food when I taste it. It was like when you're frying potatoes and just one piece burns, but then the whole pan of potatoes tastes like a brush fire. Well, that wasn't a big deal, I thought, and I let the waitress know, fully expecting her to just take them back to the kitchen and get me a fresh serving of them. Well, that's NOT what happened. Instead, she began to defend the vegetables! Telling me that they were supposed to taste like that when they were clearly burnt. It wouldn't have cost anything and would have taken 2 minutes to correct, but instead she just gave me a hassle over it. So I haven't gone back since then. I don't intend to do so, nor will I recommend them to anyone who asks me. If a place to too proud to bring me just one, un-burnt scoop of vegetables, then they're obviously too good for low-lifes like me. The place came recommended by locals in Scottsbluff. Good: Had a spicy chicken Philly sandwich. Chicken was well seasoned and queso on the sandwich was flavorful. Not so good: service, service, service. Sat at the bar. Bartender asked "do you want anything?" No hello, no how are you, just if I wanted anything. Never asked if I wanted to see a menu. It was 6p, seems like a no brainer. Had to explain multiple times that I would like chicken instead of beef on the sandwich. No other requests, just chicken. After the plate was tossed down wasn't asked if I need anything else, if I wanted silverware (which never came) or if I wanted another beer. Never was asked if everything was good with the meal. When I was done I had to ask for my bill. After the bartender ran my card she never said thank you, have a nice evening or anything to send me on my way. read more

On our last visit to the Grill with family, the food and service again wasn't great. Some of the family members didn't receive the correct order, had to ask twice for utensils and several times for refills on drinks. Most of us ordered the sirloin, which didn't have much flavor and was tough. Many family members left half or more of their meals. We couldn't wait to get back to our town and have a superb steak at Texas Roadhouse. The Grill needs to work on being consistent with their food and provide better service. Scottsbluff doesn't have too many places to go if you want alcoholic beverage with your meal. read more

Wow! Amazing! After being away from Gering for 30 years, I was sooo missing the Stable Club & the Gaslight and Prime Cut bites. I decided to give Steel Grill a shot. My cousin has severe allergies and the staff was over-the-top accommodating! They flat grilled her steak so there was no chance of a seafood cross-over, the steak was so awesome you would never know it wasn't grilled! My filet was superb! Their homemade Bleu cheese dressing should be bottled and, OH MY, the mac n cheese is like crack, can't get enough!!! If the amazing meal wasn't enough, the service was beyond compare!!! We arrived after shopping late. We wanted to sit in the bar but they only have a few short tables so had to sit in the dinning room. We both ordered, I had a large rib eye and my wife had chicken Alfredo , the waiter asked if I wanted a drink and I said the water was fine. She left and my wife told me she had not asked her for a drink. 15 minutes later I got her to stop for my wife's drink, by that time my said no. 40 minutes later she came and told my wife that they did not have noodles for her meal. My wife reorder with a hamburger. My meal was done but they now have to make my wife's meal. My vegetables were cold and the meat had fat all the way around the outside. After we finished eating we paid, I then noticed that they charged for the chicken Alfredo. It took a while to get the ticket redone. This was once a good place to eat but that has changed.
