While here on business this place was recommended by a local for some good Nebraska beef. As promised; great NY Strip, giant beer, friendly staff and patrons. I opted to eat in the bar rather than the dining room. The dining room seemed a little quiet and stuffy for my taste, but I like the concept that you can choose a quiet, uptown steakhouse atmosphere in the dining room or a more casual (and fun, IMO) roadhouse atmosphere in the bar. The wait staff was the best part of the meal. I ordered the large rib eye with sautéed mushrooms and onions. The steak was not seasoned well, it was a bit overcooked and tasted very heavily of gas from the grill. The mushrooms and onions seemed to have been boiled not sautéed. We have gone here twice. The food is good. The tables are clean and the drinks are not bad. Maybe both times we were there we're abnormally busy but the service was terrible both occasions. Last night we saw our waitress three times in the hour and a half it took us to get our food. We had to ask multiple waiters for ketchup and I finally asked for the check a half hour after we finished eating. The beer I previously ordered (about 45 mins prior) came with the check. All in all it's a neat place but not worth the poor service. We might go back sometime without our kids when we aren't in any hurry. read more

We spent a day and a half in Scottsbluff during our tour of NE National Parks and decided to try dinner here on a recommendation from one of my wife's coworkers. Between the three of us we ordered a steak, jalapeno popper burger, and pulled pork sammie. Everyone was very happy with the food. My popper burger was loaded with jalapenos and it brought the heat but in that good burn kind of way. Only complaint was that the waitress wasn't that great but if you are looking for a good dinner in the area, I will put dollars to donuts on this place. read more

Was treated VERY POORLY by a lady that must have been a bartender. We asked for a "to go" cup (to take water to the pet in the vehicle) and the lady came across the restaurant and screamed at us (the place was packed) and accused us of trying to carry out an adult beverage. We've eaten here several times but last night was the worst. My wife and I both ordered Ribeye but when served my wife received Prime Rib. Then the waitress wanted to argue about the order. I'm not sure but she may have done my wife a favor. The Ribeye I received was overcooked and the side of mixed vegetables was undercooked and cold. Went here in a large group in December. It was described to me as 'one of the two nicest places in Scottsbluff'. I was definitely surprised by our experience, given that reputation. The service took a long time, even though we didn't order anything really complicated. My entree was some smothered chicken type dish and it was rubbery. I have gone to this place numerous times and it seems like each time I go, I am more disappointed. This year (2015) I have only been once. I used to go once a week! First their steak nachos.... $15 for a bag of chips?!?! are you kidding me? I see those steak nachos sit in the window way longer than they should! For $15 I would expect them to be delivered to my table immediately! I know the steak nachos bring in a lot of money to the restaurant and they should be treated as a high priority! Also they should be COVERED in cheese! I should not have to ask for a side of cheese just so i can finish my over-priced nachos & then be charged for said cheese. Plus they are STEAK nachos, last time I was there I asked where the steak was and the waitress helped me count, we found a total of 7 pieces of steak!! Really? I was in disbelief! Second, the guac burger.. the "guac" is squirted out of a plastic bag and tastes horrible! The noise is unbearable in the bar area and if you try the dining room you'll wait forever and maybe get lack luster service. My husband and I shared the steak nachos, which were fabulous. Unfortunately, we could not finish them. So if you don't have a big appetite, order that for 4 people. We also had the blackened chicken wings, which were not really blackened, but were good. Our waitress was friendly, prompt, and knew not to pester us. This is one of our favorite places to go for a nice steak dinner. If I am not getting a typical steak my favorite order is their Steak Nachos Appetizer, a huge mound of tortilla chips with typical nacho toppings throughout and bite-sized pieces of steak. Let me start by saying I like the idea of the split dining meaning you have the bar area and then the smaller dining area that is quiter and you can have a conversation. The service was good little confusing on the dress of the wait staff; one was casual dress and the other was dressed as if waiting on tables in a semi upscale restaurant. The special of the evening was a Chicken fried steak (pan fried) not deep fried. Panko crust which basically fell off the steak. The steak was thin and overall was just okay. Came with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. It's Nebraska I expected better. The one other thing I think the Restaurant needs to make a change in is the napkin spread on the center of the Table need to go. Either cover the table or leave bare (the steel) is good and adds to the atmosphere. Work on your breading of your Chicken fried steak and really improve the amount of steak used. Find a new supplier for your dinner rolls or make your own. I think an overhaul of the menu would help - Oh by the way if I had wanted dessert there was none. read more

On 12/31/2013, my constituents made a reservation and arrived on time. We waited over 2 hours to be seated even though we had made reservations and arrived on time. I went up to the bar to order a alcoholic beverage and granted the bar maid was very busy. The bar maid knew I was waiting in line to order a alcoholic beverage. I waited over 10 minutes to order a alcoholic beverage. Two customers came to the bar after me and the bar maid asked for their alcoholic beverage order before I had a chance to order. I, in turn, interrupted and the two customers and asked the bar maid for a alcoholic beverage. After 10 minutes of waiting to order my alcoholic beverage, I finally received my alcoholic beverage. Finally, after 2 hours we finally seated. We ordered our beverages. The beverages that were ordered came out in a reasonable time frame We ordered our dinners. After and hour and a half we received our dinners. We received no silverware. We had literally no silverware. We summoned the wait staff that we needed silverware. Finally, after about 10-15 minutes, we received silverware after our food was cold and we had to wait for silverware to be produced. The constituent that I was with summoned the wait staff over and proceeded to advise the wait staff that we received less than stellar service. In turn, the wait staff, proceed to advise that it was the constituents fault. How can one honestly proceed with that conclusion that it was the constituents fault? The constituent demanded a refund for this less than stellar service and was indeed, very unhappy about the over all service. It was refused. That being said, I, and the constituents that I was with, will never go back to The Steel Grill due to this less than stellar service received.-Period. They just lost over 400.00 in additional funding per month. read more
