I recently moved back to Columbia, Missouri and my old salon had closed so I was in need of a new spot to occasionally get some highlights. I'm a natural blonde, but as with many of us, as we get older our hair color starts to change so I like my highlights to be very natural, thin and a lot of them so they don't look streaky. I had read some reviews on Yelp and found The Strand. I read several reviews that mentioned Stefani and that she seemed to have this down. I got my hair done with her today and couldn't be more pleased. Stefani was able to get my hair looking back to how I'm used to it looking and I am very happy. She did a great job and I recommend her to any blond who likes to keep their hair looking natural. Can't wait to come back! Thank you!! Also, the salon is very clean and modern. I went to the strand hoping to have my hair dyed dark green. i had 3 sessions of balayage at $125 each plus tip, to finally get my hair light enough for the color to stick, and when we finally dyed it, it turned out basically blue with the tiniest hint of emerald green, she missed multiple spots where the blonde from the balayage was still noticeable and the color was not what i wanted at all. not to mention the color faded before i even washed it one time and every time i washed it it became more and more blue, after the second wash my hair was completely turquoise and bright blue, after asking for dark, foresty green. I paid over $400 and got absolutely nothing I had planned to get, and all she said was that "fashion colors fade fast" but she didnt deliver good results at all, it was extremely sloppy for how much i paid. overall this salon is extremely overpriced and from my experience, does not deliver what the client wants, and offers little to no help when a problem arrises read more

I was on the hunt for a salon and stylist when I moved back to Columbia for a few years. After trying two other salons and three other stylists, I found Shannon at The Strand. My hunt was finally over. I am blonde and have always preferred dimensional highlights. She is the first of the four stylists to get my highlights right. She uses a lot of foils so that the highlights are well blended and dimensional instead of using just a few foils for a chunkier look. And, she gets my blonde right instead of it being too yellow. Not only do I love her highlights, but I also love her cuts. When I first went to her, I didn't love my cut at all and she knew right away how to fix it. From the time I sat down in the chair I knew she understood what I was wanting, and she delivered. I also liked that she was willing to give me her opinion and her suggestions, instead of looking to me for every decision. I ultimately make the decisions, but I really appreciate her expertise and opinions. If you're blonde (or not blonde) and looking for dimensional highlights, give Shannon a shot. read more

Moved to Columbia in August and couldn't find a hair salon right for me until I came to The Strand. I came in knowing what I wanted done and even brought in pictures and Jessi did a great job with the type of ombre I wanted. Not thrilled when they called right before my first appt ever to postpone. Then I still waited when I got there. After, she tried to hurry and dry cut my hair without washing it or styling it. I asked her if she would please style it and she said yes then tried to send me off again. She was incredibly professional and intuitive to the spots that needed work. She was friendly but not too chatty which is a huge bonus when you're trying to relax. read more

I went here for a spa pedicure, which was supposed to be 75 minutes and include a bit more than just a regular pedicure (I assumed). Anyway, my experience only lasted around 50 minutes and everything was very quick (including the foot massage and exfoliation). The lady who did it was nice enough, but I felt like for it being a "spa pedicure" it should have been a bit longer and should have provided me with a calming experience instead of a rushed one. Also, the massage chair I sat in didn't even work! The buttons on the remote that controlled the massage part was broken, so all I could do was turn the chair on and pretend I was getting a massage..... Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience, but I would expect better for the price. Next time I am in the market for a pedicure I will definitely have to try somewhere else. read more

After two bad haircuts in COMO, I finally found my hair salon which is more difficult than choosing a doctor. I love my new stylist team. There are three stylists I trust with my hair. I have short, fine hair and they aren't afraid to use the thinning shears to help give me volume. They do book up so you have to plan ahead and book your appt early. The front desk receptionist could be a bit friendlier. She's not very good at muti-tasking and the phone rings lften. Have not yet tried the spa services but the spa area look very nice. For Columbia this is a pricier salon but compared to other markets I think this is a bargain for the quality of service. read more

I have very curly hair and have had a lot of trouble finding a stylist who really gets the challenge of cutting and styling curly hair. Pam at The Strand is the best stylist in Columbia for people with curly hair, for sure! She made me feel comfortable about going from long hair to a very short style I wanted and completed the cut and style in 30 minutes!!! I am usually in the stylist's chair for at least an hour. She was very personable, thorough, and professional throughout the cut. I am so glad I found this stylist here and will keep going back as long as I live in Columbia. This place can be pricey but it's worth it. Alway relaxing and leave happy. They sell Adeda products which are my absolute favorite. Pam is my stylist and she's always friendly and works with me to help me look my best. If your not happy with your cut/color/style for any reason just say so and they will fix it. read more

The salon is clean but I had a problem with their retail side. I had a cut and color with Justin, which was good and I will probably return so he can keep working on getting my color the correct shade. Next, I tried out their Aveda shampoo and conditioner products, which were on 20% off sale. After the discount, I paid $40 plus tax for the two. However, since the product didn't work for me, I decided to return the pair. The Strand told me they do not do returns, only exchanges or credit for future product purchases. I am very surprised and disappointed that I will have to now use the 'credit' to purchase more products. read more

Finding the right place to get your haircut is always a bit stressful because you don't want to end up with a bad cut! I learned about The Strand through a good friend of mine and I was happy with my first cut because he actually listened to what I wanted and cut it just as I had envisioned. I also really like The Strand because they have the option for a dry cut which is quick, easy and very affordable! The only downside is that the receptionists aren't always the most welcoming or friendly, but the hairstylists more than make up for it. read more

The beginning of April I was in Boone Hospital!! One of the nurses who cared for me had a "super cute" hair cut and I found out that Shannon at The Strand was her stylist! When I finally got feeling better it was my time to get a haircut from Shannon! She did exactly what I ask her to do and I love it! I also must say that I felt like I had been going there for years because she along with the other staff made me feel so comfortable that I fit right in! A neat deal that they have on their products is what ever amount you spend on your products they keep track of that amount and on your next visit you get to take off 10% of the total on the last visit on your new product total!!!! 1st visit 50.00 products 10%- 5.00 off products for next visit I hope that I explained this correctly! I purchased one of the spa services at The Strand via Groupon without doing any research. I was slightly worried it was going to be some old salon, and I was surprised when it turned out to be more upscale. The clientele seemed to me to be upper middle class and most appeared to be regulars. The stylists greeted everyone by name and seemed to actually KNOW their customers. The place was pretty busy, and customers arrived every 10 minutes or so. I didn't get a hair cut/style, but a wax instead. Yuliya did it, and she was very knowledgeable and kept up the small talk to make it less awkward. Overall, there was better customer service/treatment here than I've had at some fancy places in Houston. I definitely plan on going back-- maybe for a hair cut next time. read more

The only good thing I can say about this place is that they're cheap. The girl at the front desk was definitely not concerned about customer service. She looked bored and was very rude. I'm new to the area and was recommended by a friend who lived here years ago, and clearly they had a different stylist. My stylist not only didn't listen to what I asked her to do (I only needed a trim-it wasn't complicated-and my hair was totally uneven.) she didn't even bother to try and make conversation with me. When I tried to be friendly and started talking about how I'm new to town and my girlfriend and I live nearby, she rudely shut down the conversation and raised her eyebrows at me when I said "girlfriend." So not only was it clear she wasn't gay friendly, she wasn't even a good stylist. I immediately called The Marc downtown and went and had my hair fixed right up. I have always been extremely picky about how my hair is cut. I have long hair so it's always been hard to find a stylist who understands how to keep the length, but also make your hair look healthy. I'm so happy I tried The Strand on a whim and found Keely. I've gone to her twice now and she always does an amazing job with my long hair. She also cuts layers better than anyone I have ever gone to, so much so that I still go back to her even though I've moved out of Columbia. She's quick and I love that she's at an Aveda salon because those products are amazing. And her blow-outs are incredible! The place was very nice, and so was everyone that I talked to that worked there. I was a little disappointed with my hair color. I showed a picture of what I wanted and explained what I wanted in depth. My hair is brown and I wanted full head highlights to look blonde, but a natural blonde. The lighting in there made it look a lot lighter until I got into my car...In actual lighting it is still very dark. I wanted to look blonde, rather than having light brown hair. I paid over a hundred dollars for basically nothing because my hair looks almost the same. :/ The stylist was really nice, I just wish she had paid more attention to the photo I showed her.
