The energy is so warm and welcoming at The Pines House. I found it particularly interesting that the gathering space is on the other side of the classroom from the entrance, increasing the degree of connection with classmates and the space itself. The wood oven and candles brought a very pleasant degree of natural light into the room for a calming practice. As a yin teacher myself, I am slightly picky about the classes I choose to attend. I am careful to select teachers who respect the authenticity of the practice of yoga, in a culture that is very guilty of its appropriation. In my opinion, Shelley did an excellent job at honouring yoga as a sacred practice. She has also recently released a collection of healing mists which were used in the class and were very pleasant. Overall, I am very happy with this studio and will certainly be back during my time in Comox.

First the lodge - amazing location (on a hill, overlooking the forest and the strait - stunning views in the morning), 4-star lodge/accomodation (comfortable beds, great lounge with fireplace, and a great dining area) Then the staff - professional, friendly, knowledgeable --food : we were followig a raw food diet, and the hostess/chef cooked some unique tasting dishes --yoga/hiking: great teacher - dynamic, friendly, efficient -- therapist: she was both knowledgeable (healthy diets, therapeutic massages...) and friendly -host: she was very detail oriented, efficient, and went the extra mile to accomodate the guests requests. Last the food and activties: all great This kind of retreat is perfect for busy, stressed out, professionals... If I weren't living on the other side of the planet, I would probably schedule a retreat every 3 months.

I'm told that the spinning class misses the mark by a bit, as the person leading it looked out of shape herself and the whole thing was real low intensity, but that's 2nd hand. And the staff are friendly. It's not fitness excellence, but it's fitness not bad.

My one horse had seasonal allergies which special feeding (soaking hay etc) requirements were made. I had my own vet, farrier and riding coach, all came to the property without issue.
