This place not only is ridiculously overpriced but it's all expired candies!!! Check the dates omgoodness!! Also, as a major lover of all specialty chocolates they are not kept properly during the heat. The chocolates are all turning white as they are melting and hardening up daily. To make matters worse I slipped on a candy wrapper and smashed my head on a shelf and was told I'd be hearing from the owner as she has all my info but nothing. It's been several days. And honestly when a customer injures themselves shouldn't the staff be trained to handle these things correctly? I'm appalled at this poorly run establishment and apparently they are affiliated with the clam shack across the road which has now lost my business forever read more

What a sweet spot! (Pun intended.) I grew up in a town that had two mom and pop candy stores. It is my full belief that both of them held some kind of magic. It's like it didn't matter how grumpy you were feeling, or what kind of day you were having, or anything like that, because the moment you walked in - regardless of old or young you were - for a moment everything was right in the world. Maybe it's the sensory overload that comes with a candy store: the bright colors, the variety of smells (sugar and chocolate as it's being transformed into something else... like truffles!), the sounds of laughter and machines whirring. Magic, I tell ya. Magic. The Sugar Shack ("designed with fun in mind") is a modern-day version of those old candy shoppes I remember. While the atmosphere inside is stark (very white walls and very plainly decorated), it features the candy first and foremost. And there is candy LITERALLY EVERYWHERE INSIDE. Once you walk in, there are little sand castle buckets available to use as shopping baskets (#suhcute). Tubes and bowls and jars and display after display of every kind of candy you could think of (don't forget the side room where the cash register is for homemade chocolate candies). As my friend and I walked around nostalgic for candies of our youth... suddenly we would see it! The fact that there were little kids running around made it all that much better. If you've got a sweet tooth, do yourself a favor and stop here. Even if you don't buy anything, you'll walk away feeling younger and happier! read more

Great candy store. Wide selection. Good variety not found in other stores in town, but no fudge, so sorta a give and take. I would recommend visiting all candy stores for the best options. But as a general rule, sugar shack is best for more modern candy, however you interpret that. Solid candy store. Hope they stay in business. read more

Ok selection based on what I could see through the window. Unfortunately, they discriminate against healthy folks without masks, which we naturally didn't have. Luckily, the Candy Man was an excellent find around the corner in downtown Kennebunkport. read more

They sell candy that is YEARS old and expired. I had a friend who worked there for about 3 years and knows all the inside secrets and that's one of them. Also before I knew the thing about the old candy I was in the store and there were bugs on the floor/walls as well as in and around some of the candy. DISGUSTING. Never go here. read more

Left The Candy Man because of terrible customer service and found The Sugar Shack. They don't have fudge but they have a ton of great candy options - packaged and homemade - and the staff was super friendly! read more

My girlfriend and I came to the sugar shack about 2 weeks ago while we were in kennebunkport for a wedding. My girlfriend was drawn in because the sign on the window saying "cotton candy on demand" so we went in to sweet tooth fix before the wedding. It's a cute little spot and found ourselves talking with one of the girls that works there. Not only was she polite as can be but was willing to let us talk her ear off for a few minutes while she made us some maple cotton candy (delicious I might add). Come to find out she works at the clam shack (apparently owned by the same people) and told us before we leave to visit there the next day and get the best lobster roll in town. Needless to say we followed her advice. We never got her name but I'm sure everyone will recognize her if they meet her. LOVE this place! It's super fun inside! They have tons and tons of candy inside! Lots of old time candy and lots of fun things you'd never find at a regular candy store. They also make you cotton candy FRESH on the spot!! The girls that work here are very nice and sweet, too! Just like the candy. I got the cutest little purse here for only $20.00 it's made out of candy wrappers and I love it!!!!!! I definitely would go back here in a minute! Love it here! read more

We always make sure to stop by the sugar shack every time we find ourselves in town. They have a great selection of sweets, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in town. They have cotton candy, too! read more

Lots of fun candy options sold by weight. Also, many throwback items like wax lips and pop rocks and so on. The kids had a good time picking out different candies to put in their bags, and it wasn't as expensive as I expected. Not cheap, by any means, but not too bad for a touristy place. read more

Best candy place in town I go once a week to pick up candy. The owner and the staff are really friendly. Best selection of my favorite sour ropes in town. Definitely the place you should go buy your candy. read more
