I love how they have outlined the Westside on a grid listing all the familiar streets. Graded pathways that walk you through all of the history of this area of Las Vegas are all around. There are plans to install more sculptures of leaders in the park but for now the first sculpture to be installed is President Obama sitting comfortably next to three of his favorite books. The park itself is a nice size and just a nice place to read or enjoy being outdoors. I hope the park stays nice and is not destroyed. It is an educational park that would be a great place to bring the kids to learn more about the history of our city. Location is right off of Martin Luther King Blvd behind the El Pollo Loco. Don't miss the photo murals that are on the walkway leading to the park. Thanks to Commissioner Lawrence Weekly for helping to facilitate the creation of this park.

And there is so much they offer here in addition to the trails. Check the website for the beaver walk. Yes, there are beavers here. I've been on the guided walk twice before and saw beavers both times. There is also a bat walk. I haven't been on that one yet but I'd like to some time. Maybe something indoors that stokes your creativity is more your speed. Try the poetry workshop. Or painting in water color. They offer those too. I took the poetry workshop once. Have you ever wanted to be a part of something larger amd contribute to a group goal? Join the Wetland Walkers program. Log your miles walked each time you visit. There are prizes and incentives to be had. The more you visit/walk, the more you can earn. The end goal is for the group to record the miles migrated by whichever species is highlighted in any given year. So get out there and do your part. When you go, please be respectful of the environment. Don't litter. Don't walk your pets where it is prohibited. Don't chase, scare or otherwise torment the wildlife. Quietly observe from a distance. They'll come as close to you as they are comfortable with. They make for some good photo ops if you're patient and quiet. Most of all, be mindful of anything that may cause a fire. This delicate environment is home to a lot of critters and a place for people to enjoy. None of that is possible if you burn it down.

Then a guy came by and my puppy tried to play with his dog but he wasn't having it, but my puppy was so excited I couldn't catch him. The guy screamed and was aggressive. Other people were shocked by his behavior too. I end up catching my dog and keeping him with me on leash. The guy went to the park guard that laughed in his face for his behavior, then the guy left. The water system was not working within displayed hours: it's 2 poor elephants. Then homeless showed up to go in there. We left and went to another park. I will never ever be back here, even the other people were friendly, there's a mean man around I rather avoid. And the playground needs maintenance urgently.

Medium size park in the middle of a very ritzy neighborhood. Park has 4 baseball fields and a snack…read moreshack. Pecolle Little League uses the baseball fields as their designated fields, so am at the park often. The bathroom by the field is largely maintained by the snack shack so most of the time will be supplied and clean. The fields are in fair shape as well with dug outs and a sitting stand area on each side. There is ample parking and some of the parking is actually covered. There are some homeless/people that park in the park, but they are on the side near the play area. I do see regular cops that patrol them and the area, so they don't seem to really bother anyone. There is a small play area and some grass area with trees. The ice cream man makes a regular appearance.

Even if the doors are locked there is always another open door with a friendly smile and a genuine handshake. A desire to see everything, but you can't stop the Sun from setting, however,you can visit slowly and slow down time. Always there are two to travel, a master and an apprentice.

Some tables and benches here and there, but I wish there were clusters of them so you can have enough seating space together for larger groups. Dangerous. Great baseball fields. A very nice sports complex. It is located adjacent to a desert…read morepreserve. Numerous ATVs sped past baseball field stands. Parents and children stand in this area. The ATVs even did high speed circles around the baseball sculpture. A 3 year child nearly got hit at our event. Park grounds keepers eventually had to ask the ATVs to slow down. I asked the city council and park services about poles preventing ATV or car travel. You could drive a full sized car into a crowd of people watching baseball. The responses said thanks for the comments and no action was taken. I asked for a callback and nothing. It is only a matter of time before a child is seriously hurt or killed.

Question for you. " What is inflation proof?" Answer: the local park…read more Hidden Palms Park is a local park in the triad of Paradise Palms parkd that include Desert Bloom and Duck Creek. Out of the three parks, Hidden Palms focuses more on the immediate area, to the degree of having zero restrooms. The closest ones are at Duck Creek Park to the east and Von's to the north. The lack of restrooms is a nice way of saying that this is a neighborhood park, where local residents are a short drive or walk away from their own restrooms. To further support this point, the small parking lot only provides thirteen parking spaces with an additional two for handicapped park users. Throughout the years, I had driven by Hidden Palms Park several times. However, it was just recently I had stepped foot in it. When I visited, there were a few people. They were mostly by the softball field. The highlight was walking along the approximately half-mile walking path, which took me 5.37 miles to complete. I will describe my walk in conjunction with the park amenities. Starting from the parking lot and the adjacent playground as the starting point, I walked clockwise. Starting off, the walking path led me south, then west around the pickleball courts and softball field #1 before paralleling Pebble Road to the south. Walking further along the sinuous white paved walking path as it gradually shifted north, open green space with mature pine trees bordered it. To the left was the subdivision border wall. To my eyes, the open grass needed some tlc. Instead of a colorful golf course green they were close to a yellow palette. Continuing north, I took in softball field #2. As the walking path shifted away from the subdivision border wall, the open grass returned. As the path curved east, there was a fitness equipment station. Fronting the open space towards the John R. Beatty Elementary School north border wall was a sand volleyball court. At the sharp curve returning me south towards the parking lot, were the tennis courts. Approaching the end of the approximately 0.5 mile walk were the picnic tables and playground. On my Diminutive Outdoors visit here, I simply walked around. This included a short stroll to the north border wall in the shadow of the park landmark: a towerering cellphone tower that resembles a pine tree. Here, I found my favorite spot in the park: a shaded bench overlooking the expanse of the park to the south. I am aware that Hidden Palms is more of a neighborhood park than it is a local or regional park. However, that does not stop me from having the opinion that it would give an improved park experience if it was connected to Duck Creek and Desert Bloom Park by means of a multi use trail. I understand that it would involve the controversy of giving Pebble Road a protected pedestrian bike lane, furnishing Pollock Drive with a road diet (narrowing it from four to two sections) between Pebble and Wigwam, and reimagining Wigwam Avenue into a more pedestrian bicycle friendly corridor between Pallock and Desert Bloom Park. From evaluating Hidden Palms Park, I am of the impression that this would give Paradise Palms a trail system that Hidden Palms Park would anchor. Additionally it would connect park users from outside the neighborhood with a public restroom. In conclusion, I give Hidden Palms Park "3 Stars." Considering that local parks are inflation proof, it costed me zero cents to explore it. With that said, I will most likely return to the nicer nearby Duck Creek Park and Desert Bloom Parks before returning to Hidden Palms Park.
