What a wonderful surprise and 'difference' in décor and service. On arriving at Broadgate the sounds of music hit our ears. We were, obviously, going the right way. As the circle opened in front of us it was going to be a fun few hours as everyone was dancing away. That was the first difference from the previous two Mr. Foggs. It was, we think, the inspiration of Mrs. Fogg. Another difference was you ordered at the bar and you took the drinks to your table. Cocktails were delicious but not quite as elaborate, nor were the glasses but that needed to be as most were being drunk outside. A mixture of all age groups and I include ourselves as we were the oldest there but never felt uncomfortable. Music was, as I said, LOUD. Everyone was having fun, as we were too. OK next stop will be the Gin Parlour, at some point in time. We love the Foggs venues for their quirkiness and individuality. For their different, unique, cocktails. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.

This is where things went south for me. The tofu tasted off, like it went bad in the sauce. I thought the first time was an off night but the second night with a different curry dish also with tofu, I am not sure if something was off in the sauce or what the tofu may have been marinated.. but I did not eat more than the first bite on my second night in. I stuck with the apps and yummy drinks. Definitely a fun spot for happy hour, good vibes, good tunes and good drinks.

What was ordered: A pint of Heineken and an Aspall Mulled Cyder. It was my first time trying the mulled cyder and I thought it was pretty tasty. It was sweet, slightly warm with a tangy orange taste. There was also a slice of orange in it. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. The Heineken was pretty basic but the cyder was very interesting. The view was also nice but would have been even better if it wasn't gloomy and drizzly; too bad we can't control the weather! A staff member will come by to collect your glass as soon as it's empty. It did take a while to find an empty spot since a lot of people were just sitting around even if they weren't drinking. Other than that, it was a nice experience to have while enjoying the view and the Garden. Credit cards are accepted.

It's not a place to be seen (a relief, as we know what this area can be like), but somewhere to enjoy a few drinks, perhaps before heading elsewhere. Inside it's a traditional East London pub; wooden, sport on TV and some friendly older female bar staff. The type of lady that was confused by my ordering of a 'lager top'. She might have even mocked me, but I'm ok with that. The outside is unique - green tiles and hanging flowers. It's got a nice feel to it this place, especially in the summer where the street is full of drinkers from here and the bar over the road.

The smell of fresh paint, with it's a lovely warm atmosphere, magnolia walls, dark wood, candles on each table and lots of cocktails to choose from makes it a great after work or pre-party venue. I got the cocktail which was the first on the menu and it was called Frothy Lady (I think). Very sweet and hardly tasted the alcohol. The espresso cocktail tasted great too but couldn't taste the alcohol. So it got me wondering if they were being stingy or were they just really good. The jalapeño pretzels were really nice and the olives had too much lemon on them for my liking but I was hungry so ate them all anyway. It's next to The Book Club and a short walk from Old Street so if you're around give it a try!
