It's been a few years since my last review so I figured I should update it. If you play squash, tennis or badminton, then you already know about the Sweet Spot. It's pretty much the only specialty racquet store in Edmonton. Must be nice to have the market all to yourself! Anyways, my rating dropped because I'm not a fan of their business motto: 1) No prices up on their shelves for racquets or shoes. That's just irksome. A lot of their stuff is overpriced, let's just say you can get better deals if you do a bit of shopping around. Even their website doesn't have an updated list of prices. 2) Just went in to get a couple of squash racquets re-strung. I had a card/coupon for 10% off but they wouldn't take it, even though there's no restrictions on it. $25/racquet stringing (as I brought in my own strings). So they wouldn't give me the 10% which is $5.00 ($50.00 for two racquets that is). It's more like a 3.5 star. Seriously, put up some tag prices and save everyone the headache. read more

This small but mighty store carries all things tennis/raquetball/badminton related. We went in here because my boyfriend has a new love of tennis and he wanted to price out shoes and accessories. This place is pricey! That being said, it is some of the best quality equipment you can get for the non-professional player. The staff are also really nice too. We asked a couple questions and the guy there was really helpful and didn't pressure us to buy a thing. He also told us that we could try out any racket and it was free -- just leave your credit card info and you can take it out to your next lesson. I like the try before you buy deal! We didn't buy anything here today, but we will be back once I am sure my boyfriend is committed to the game! read more

If you are serious about tennis or badminton, you have to go The Sweet Spot. To my knowledge, this is the only store in Edmonton that caters specifically to these two racquet sports. One thing that I really appreciate about these guys is the quality of their work and their products. They resting tennis racquets like pros! I was so happy with their work! Whatever you need for badminton and/or tennis - this is the place for you. If you're serious, that is. If you just wanna try it out and have fun a couple times a year, you could probably get something pretty cheap and somewhere like SportChek. This is "the" racquet shop in the city to go to for all of your racquet sport needs. Whether you want tennis balls, badmonton birdies or a new string job on your Wilson K, you can get it done here by the personable staff at The Sweet Spot. There's a wide selection of premier and beginner racquets and the guys won't oversell if you let them know you're just a beginner. I appreciated their honesty, especially since I don't think I'm on the way to being the next Maria Sharapova. But if you do want the best, it's here. There's also a nice selection of stylish, practical and breathable clothing. There isn't a full stock of sizes and the space in the shop is a little cramped, but they do their best to bring in what you need. read more

Once upon a time, I was a fantastic tennis player... however that was when I was 15, and it has been about 5 years since I last played. I have been trying to make a comeback, and The Sweet Spot was my first stop on the road to Wimbledon... or to my local courts. I was in need of an adult racket, and they got me sized up, asked me some questions about my game and then pointed out a could of suggestions. What really impressed me was that they took down my credit card and let me borrow the racket for TWO WEEKS before actually buying one. There is no way to properly tell if a racket works with your swing and style until you take it onto the court, so this was crucial. I ended up walking out with some apparel, a great racket that I love and some very great memories for this store. I would be curious to go in as a true beginner, but I would imagine (and the other reviews support this) that they wouldn't be big oversellers, and would try to get you fitted with what would work best for you. The prices are a very good range, from beginner to expert. The scale seems to be in line with other retailers. I will definitely be coming back for more! But maybe first I should remember how to play.... read more

If your sport involves a racquet, then, as far as I know, this is the only store for you. Fortunately, it's a good one. Squash, racquetball, badminton, tennis, they have it covered: strings, grips, lead tape, balls, birdies, shoes, bags, clothing. Racquets actually should be fitted to your hand size and swing style; they know how. I'm usually in during the Spring to have my tennis racquets restrung and re-gripped for the Summer. They have the technicians and equipment to do it right. I even have a couple of "vintage" racquets that only they know how to string properly. Between the Sweet Spot, Running Room, Skier's Sportshop and United Cycle, you have the rectangle of Edmonton's serious athlete's shops on the south side. read more

Amazing store, especially for badminton racquets. Actually, I'm not sure if there's any other store in Edmonton for badminton racquets. It's nice to see niche stores like this still around. I come here often to get my supply of badminton birdies, and to restring my racquet, although luckily this has not been happened often. I like this store because they carry all the latest models from Yonex, Black Knight, Techno Pro, Wilson and others. What sets this stores from others is that you can pick the frames and string separately. Then you watch them string everything together right before your eyes and you're good to go. They also have a good selection of accessories available to equip you for your next game. The staff here are also helpful and knowledgeable too. I see a lot of positive reviews about The Sweet Spot but I have to admit this place is definitely not perfect. I've made this account on yelp specifically in hopes that viewers aren't deluded by all the positive reviews. Almost all their badminton products are higher priced compared to online stores (*including shipping and handling when comparing the online stores). The difference is about $20-40 higher for badminton shoes/racquets vs onilne. String prices are absolutely horrid (relatively speaking) compared to online stores with their prices about 200-400% the price I can get from an online store (again, including shipping). Their stringing labour fee is standard but a close friend of mine had a very horrible run in with them despite their "goal to offer the best customer service possible" (http://www.sweetspotcanada.com/index.html) The scenario was where my friend had them string his racquet for him but when he went to pick up the racquet they had given his racquet to a *different* client. When you're dealing with high end badminton racquets ($200+), that's a lot of money down the drain. Suffice to say, they did *not* replace his lost racquet and he has decided not to visit there ever again. Hopefully their pricing and service does not carry over to the other racquet sports (maybe they just don't place badminton in a high priority?) But I must admit The Sweet Spot is a good store for any casual players of racquet sports since it provides convenience and a service most people can't find elsewhere (stringing is a difficult service to come by unless you're a club player/know someone who owns a string machine). In my honest opinion, any avid badminton lover should not go to this store. read more

I love this place!! Can't understand why all the reviews are positive - yet they aren't all 5 stars! Knowledgeable staff and way, way more racquet equipment than you think they could stuff into this store (they have warehouse space nearby!) This IS the place in Northern Alberta read more

Beware, this store has the WORST return policy! They offer absolutely NO REFUNDS and may only give store credit within 15 days if the item is unused. It even says it on the bottom of their receipt. I had been a loyal customer of theirs for years and recently bought a pair of shoes from them because my old ones were done and were giving me bad blisters. The shoes had a manufacturer flaw which became evident the first time I wore them. I took them back to get a new pair but they would not give me a new pair or refund my money. I was shocked when they told me that all they would do is send them away to the manufacturer and see what happens. I had to wait a month to get new shoes. I felt it was unfair that they wouldn't just give me another pair from their store or at least give me my money back so I could get another pair somewhere else. I had to play squash for a month with my old shoes continuing to get blisters. The new pair of shoes also have a defect but my hands are tied and I can't wait another month for another pair (they are Asics). They have lost my business for life and of many in the squash community because of their lack of care for their customers. My suggestion to anyone would be to buy ur shoes or rackets from Sport Chek or something because at least you can return them if there is anything wrong, and it will be cheaper too. read more

Stopped in based on recommendation. I'm an out of town customer. I had 2 rackets that they "couldn't bother" to restring in 2 days. They bashed their competition's quality and conveyed a negative attitide the moment I walked through the door. read more
