The Tannery is a nice little, indoor shopping strip mall that's filled with many small, boutique stores showcasing many unique products, services, and eateries. There's even a movie theatre too! One of the main noticeable themes are eco-friendly and quality. You can see the beautiful architecture in the main hallway with touches of eclectic and unique art, which I found to be a theme throughout Christchurch. There are no stores a like, and no chain stores. Every store and eatery is unique in its own way. Even though I didn't purchase anything, I still found it interesting browsing through the bookstore, reused clothing store, and several specialty stores. Grabbed a flat white at the coffee stand in the middle, and took a seat and relaxed in the warmth as I waited for my wife to get her nails done. Even though, the shopping complex is just one strip mall. The middle portion had plenty of places to sit, and the walkway was spacious. Overall, this is a really nice place to visit, and shop for those unique items for yourself or as a gift. There's plenty of parking outside, and a nice place for warmth when it's cold outside. It's bright with natural light, and it's clean and organized everywhere. read more

An excellent boutique shopping mall has popped up in Woolston. Though most stores that occupy the hall are filled with fancy boutique clothes stores or gift shops, walking through the Tannery is a must-do for visitors and locals alike. The tiling and attention to detail on the arched roof and glass windows is timeless and unlike any other architecture in this industrial-centered neighborhood. There are a few places to grab a bite to eat or a coffee like Gustav's or She Universe's outpost shop (try the hot chocolate) or you can pop across the street to the craft store to pick up some beautiful fabric for your next DIY. There is free private parking on site. read more

Absolutely worth a look! You can get there by bus like I did, but there is also ample car parking. I did hear of someone saying they got a parking fine for being in the carpark half a day, so maybe check the restriction. Cool boutique shops and a great chocolate coffee shop called 'She Universe'. I got two free samples of her delicious chocolate and she also serves dairy free and gluten free slices. Amazing! Almond milk latte was perfect. There is free wifi at The Tannery and also heaps of seating if you'd like to chill out with a book for a little while. read more
