Despite the name of the place, they are not exclusively serving French food. They have pasta, steaks, and seafood. If anything, Chateau 1771 is a modern European restaurant serving favorite French, Italian, and Swiss food. When I first visited the place years ago, I was actually anxious about that moment when the waiter would hand me the check. European dining in the Philippines has always been equated with expensive fine-dining. But to my astonishment, the price was actually reasonable. I mean, it's not affordable and one would be crazy or filthy rich to eat in this kind of place every day. But for special occasions, I would recommend this place. My most recent visit was during my wife's birthday. It was a table for two and we had a late lunch. After a few moments of browsing through the menu, she asked for Croquette Salad, while I went for Butter-baked Oysters. For main, she had Vanilla Brick Spring Chicken, or grilled chicken served with vanilla bean dots. I ordered the Potence, the house specialty. It's basically steak where the meat is served hanging from a potence, or metal frame, and then set alight (by the waiter) with brandy. Their Pomelo Fruit Juice is a must try. I would recommend having a reservation when dining at Chateau 1771. While the place typically fills up during dinner, I find it perfect for a late afternoon hangout. The ambience can truly transport you somewhere in Europe.

Oh, their flambeed coffees are amazing. Try their Irish coffee. You'll want more. For dessert, it doesn't matter whether you order a Creme Brulee or a Coffee Bean Sansrival. All of their desserts are excellent.

It's a very relaxing and soothing atmosphere. They play lovely music and their service is top notch. It's a great way to start your day. They are Michelin rated and rightfully so. Much different than the breakfast buffet downstairs on the first floor which is a louder more rushed environment but still delicious. Mireio's breads and pastries were particularly fresh and so satisfying. Their dragon fruit and mangos were the best I've ever tasted. I regret not trying them out for lunch or dinner because I've heard from friends that it is superb. My schedule did not permit but I'd highly recommend it.

We made reservations for the terrace at dusk to take full advantage of the vistas when the lights come on and Makati is at its best.The skyline reminds me of Victoria Harbor seen from the Kowloon side and It's quite a spectacle. The terrace itself is quite big with a large,fully stocked bar ( one of two).Seating is a mix of sofa pits with huge red umbrellas to shade from the Philippine sun and tall bar tables and chairs around the glass enclosed terrace to take advantage of the view. We were lucky enough to get a table and the vistas was amazing. Also lucky as we arrived just in time for happy hour from 5 to 8 pm with half priced drinks and a "all you can drink" option on a selection of wine,beer and speciality cocktails for 1000.00 Pasos/ person ( about $18.75 US) not a bad deal for a experienced drinker. There is a small menu of Pica pica ( bar snacks) and we had fried mozzarella sticks, Belgian fries with white truffle oil and some of the fattest chicken wings I've had yet in Manila ( chickens tend to be rather small in this corner of the world) along with the complementary popcorn and the sweet but tiny Asian roasted peanuts in the shell. But the star of the show was Makati itself with it's sparkling vistas,exquisite lights and since we were only 10 stories up I felt we was just high enough to see everything but not too high as to be isolated from the sights and sounds that make up this part of Manila. The night was cool and clear ( for Manila) with a slight breeze so we were so lucky to be part of this modern and booming city in such a amazing venue. I highly recommend Miréio's terrace if you get the opportunity to visit Manila but book at dusk for the full experience.

While it seems like they are pointing fingers, I always had a pleasurable experience with the front desk and would like to think that the Flame restaurant staff just offers terrible dining service. The views are wonderful during the day and the night. There's also indoor and outdoor seating available. My friend decided to choose this spot since we saw that they had oysters, foie gras, and all that good stuff. For appetizers, we ordered Steak Fries, Crispy Salmon, Duck Gyoza, XO Oysters, and Grilled Bone Marrow. My husband and I didn't care too much for the fries and crispy salmon, but we definitely enjoyed the duck gyoza, grilled oysters, and the bone marrow. I really wanted to try the scallop ceviche and snapper crudo, but we were hesitant on trying anything raw since we we're from out of the country. For our entree, my husband and I shared an Excel Ribeye from Colorado topped with seared foie gras accompanied with a green peppercorn and brandy sauce. We enjoyed our delicious steak with the foie gras, but we didn't really care for the green peppercorn sauce. They were literal works of art. The panna cotta didn't feel like a panna cotta to us - not sure how we would describe it since the white part of the dessert had a firmer texture than the orange part. The pineapple consomme was very different. It was cut up pieces of fruit, with some kinda of pineapple juice or sauce poured over it. Similar to a fancy fruit platter. However, the miso cheesecake was definitely the crowd favorite. Loved it. Overall, I would definitely recommed this spot if you're craving some kind of steak. Expect a creamy and hefty pieces of pastry goodness. Their Almond Croissant (98 PHP) is more than just the sprinkle of almond slices you see, it's also filled with a sweet cream inside that just makes you want more. They only make 6 pieces a day which is odd, but hopefully more in the near future, as we certainly aren't the only fans. If you have time to splurge, suggest staying for a cup of their Hot Chocolate (190 PHP) it's served in a pot (330 ml) which is enough for 2 cups. Share it with a friend or simply indulge in the chocolatey goodness. Staff are courteous and efficient. Water is refilled timely and sometimes even before you even ask. First timers be at ease as the staff can explain fully the products they offer. Here's a tip: 50% off on all their goodies starting 9PM daily, but be quick you're going to be competing with the nearby residents for the little supply they have. We've dined here twice and when 9PM strikes the store is invaded and devoid of pastries in under 15 minutes, talk about a quick sale.
