The Sweet Spot, located in walking distance from the Blackford County Courthouse on West Washington street. The initial appeal is their various ice cream treats and drinks. While I didn't have the opportunity to try their various options, they appeared to be outstanding selections at reasonable prices. I met the owner (Mike) seated outside on a beautiful day last week and was very impressed with his desire to provide quality food at affordable prices wrapped in a memorable experience While the Sweet Spot has only been opened a few weeks, Mike and his great team have a wealth of knowledge and experience with an equal desire for creating a raving fan encounter I ended up (at Mike's recommendation) enjoying the mushroom, Swiss burger with a side serving of delicious potato salad. I love the chocolate midnight shake, but the IWU2 and Trojan sundae are pretty good as well. No free refills and water is self serve. The place does have a distinct old smell when you come in but the ice cream comes out quick and you have it with your meal or just pick it up after you are done eating which is awesome. I loved to grab ice cream and walk around town or Taylor but there's plenty of seating inside.

Ivanhoe's was ok, but nothing special. It's like a rundown and dilapidated Culver's, but with a smaller menu and the food isn't nearly as good. We got there at 11:40 and it was busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest... It was literally like an AARP Club in there (we were the young whipper snappers). The service was friendly, but it took 40 minutes for us to order and get our food... Their operations were super slow and inefficient. The food itself was alright (decent pork tenderloin) and they have an ice cream menu the size of Texas, but overall it just wasn't anything to write home about. Ivanhoe's is your quintessential podunk small town Indiana restaurant, which is cool but not worth all the hype... Good? Yes. Great? No.

They are next door to each other in the Bethel Pike Shopping Center north of McGalliard, so finding free parking was easy, though a little crowded. Inside the sweet shop, there are tables for guests who wish to enjoy their choices while there. At the back is a long counter with their buckets of ice cream on display. You can get samples of their flavors before purchase. Note on the right hand side is a list of daily specials that might be of use. There are also menu boards for pairings of ice cream and cookies that are available. I went with a lighter option and chose a raspberry sorbet (sherbet?) The woman behind the counter was friendly and promptly helped me with my order. She pointed out that my order qualified for a daily discount which I had missed. Very nice! When we arrived, we were greeted with a helpful and friendly vibe from the staff members behind the counter...along with the traditional ice cream shop aroma. While greeting visitors, Garfield holds a stacked ice cream cone and wears the t-shirt with Upland written on it. The display is fitting since the nearby drive in is known for its ice cream desserts (and their strawberry shortcake too!) This is one of fourteen statues of the cat in various poses, dressed in different clothing, scattered throughout the county.
