I would not recommend using this business. They are terrible at communication. The owner also went on a review of mine on another platform and replied to my honest review with an incomplete story about our interactions in an attempt to make herself look better I assume. After I was widowed, our accountant we had used only 3 times saw an opportunity and started charging enormous fees. One of my friends recommended The Tax Shack. Don't judge a book by it's cover (their place is tiny) as Tara and Brandy are two of the smartest accountants I have ever worked with. Always informing customers of IRS changes in a timely manner. This year they adapted a new on-line system (in addition to already e-filing) that was easy to use and my lengthy return was filed quicker than ever. I can now send all tax documents to their portal, which has checklists to help show me what documents I need to send. What a time saver! Their fees have always been low and reasonable, (what a relief!) While I love the new on-line portal, I know that if I need more help with tax decisions, they are always available in person, or they answer emails within a short amount of time. Probably obvious, I am a customer for life and highly recommend them. read more

6 MONTHS and NO RESPONSE I had several years of back taxes that needed to be done on December 2nd and paid $1000 upfront. I dropped off all of my paperwork and she stated there would be an additional charge for her time in adding receipts, reviewing documents, etc. I was fine with that as it was my fault that everything had piled up for so long. She said she would call me back once she has everything together. I didnt hear back until Jan 25 (almost 2 months later) when I called multiple times asking her what the status was. She said she didnt have everything together yet but I mentioned there would be some other documents she would require that I had found. I have written several emails and left several messages and still no response from them. They have kept me in the dark for 6 months and my taxes still arent done. I made the mistake of giving them this years taxes as well to do, which they had to file an extension on. To date (May 31st)I have paid them $1445.50 and have not recevied a single years return back and minimal contact from them. If at all possible use someone else. For the prices they charge and the service and hassle you get youd be better off going to a CPA or someone that at least has an ounce of professionalism in the work they do. STAY AWAY read more

I had a very similar experience. I was going to get a refund from the IRS , so I wanted my taxes finished in a timely manner. I dropped of my paperwork with Tara who said she would get stared and let me know if there was anything else she needed. I didn't realize that because their wasn't an IRS filing deadline, I was going to be put on the back burner. A month went by and so I called to check. I left a message......then a week later I called and left another message.....Finally, someone answered the phone on the 4th attempt weeks later. I left a message with them asking for Tara to contact me. Weeks went by again. When she finally called me she wasn't even apologetic. She did a crappy job on my taxes in the end. Like she did them in an hour after having all my paperwork for months. I never went back! read more
