The Tea House is our favorite stop when we come up to Oscoda!! Our girls love the "Snow" drink which is cream with a flavor syrup and bubbles-they also have great coffee, my husband got the salted caramel cold brew and he was delicious. Great Chai latte and crepes. We stopped in here on vacation earlier this month. I was kind bummed that my favorite local coffee spot had closed up awhile back (RIP A Different Blend), but super excited to see this cute little tea shop located in the downtown shopping district. I spotted it by chance, but when I saw that East Tawas had an actual tea room, I was there in a flash. I dragged my husband out of the gift shop we were in and we headed over to check it out in person. I wasn't even all that hungry, but I was a bit thirsty and with my curiosity definitely peaked, I took a look inside. It looked every bit as friendly and inviting as one might expect a small town tea shop/cafe to be. It looked and felt every inch the indie tea house that it should be. My husband and I ordered two iced vanilla Chai lattes and some sweet crepes to split between us. Honestly, my latte tasted so delicious, very well-made with a nice, natural vanilla flavor. Whatever syrup they've using, it must be high-quality. My drink lacked the artificial aftertaste often found in inferior syrups (or ones that are past their freshness date). Overall, the latte was great and the service was relatively expedient, even though the person waiting on us seemed to be working alone. My husband doesn't even usually order Chai lattes because he's been burned a few times before when ordering them, as have I, but he was suitably impressed as well. The crepes were amazing, rich with fresh fruit and a nice whipped topping. The crepes themselves were excellent, and while rich and sweet, they weren't too sweet, either. They were some of the lightest crepes I've ever had. I would order them again in a second. While I wasn't that hungry, I was slightly annoyed that I decided to split the order of two crepes with my husband because they were so good. They were cheap, too- about $4.50 for two. I noticed the large selection of bubble teas that were on the menu. I happen to like bubble tea, but didn't try any while we were there. The list of flavors looked impressive. Four of us went in yesterday, no one was around. We talked about what we wanted for 5 minutes then waited for service. We head someone talking in the back room, and she showed up a few minutes later on her cell phone. We asked her for our orders, she told us she didn't have certain bubbles to make the features advertised on the feature board. Then she started talking to someone on her phone about a credit card charge and walked away to the back room. We were like what the heck, she didn't even start our order. When your spending $5+ per drink you expect service to be better than dismissive. read more

Stopped in recently for a chai latte. $4.25 for 16 oz, which would be fine for an authentic product. Barista added Tazo chai concentrate to milk and steamed it. I was expecting better quality ingredients for the price! Not too strong of a flavor. It was nice to have a warm drink while walking around outside, but wouldn't recommend the chai. read more

Okay, I went back the next day and was able to order food. More staff. Food was very tasty and probably some of the best and healthiest in town. The shop should focus more on the food and making sure they can serve it.Higher ticket items make more $$$$. read more

The Tea House definitely has the best bubble tea in the area. A super cute cozy place to sit and enjoy your drink after. Employees are very nice and everything is very clean. I will be coming back to try some of their food choices next time. read more

I tried this place a couple of times last summer when I visited E. Tawas, but was fairly underwhelmed by the quality of its overpriced bubble tea and coffee drinks. The customer service wasn't great, either. What I did like, other than the overall spaciousness and comfortable seating/tables, was that they allowed my insulated mug, which I use consistently to reduce waste, last summer (and YESTERDAY!!). However, I returned this morning and was refused. I totally understand the concern about cross-contamination, but many places will let you put your reusable mug on the main counter and pour the ingredients right in without touching anything. The woman who waited on me, who I believe may have been the manager, was extremely rude. As I started to leave without ordering anything, she said something to the effect of "This is what happens when she [the girl who waited on me yesterday] doesn't follow the rules!" I replied that that wasn't my fault, to which she shot back: "It's not MINE, either!!!" Sheesh. I promptly crossed the street and patronized another establishment, which filled my mug with much tastier latte. I'm never going back to the Tea House. read more

If you like bubble tea and have had it several times before, don't get the bubble tea here. It's nothing like traditional Taiwanese boba tea. The boba is undercooked and chewy, and not soaked in sweet syrup. You can't get a proper milk tea here. The black tea used was the weakest tea I've ever tasted, and the drink was pretty much white from the cream added. Very watery. That said, if you like tea in general, they do have a nice selection of loose leaf teas for sale, and tea accessories. I would suggest buying some to brew yourself. The interior is clean and spacious, and the employees are very polite and friendly. I come here every time I visit Tawas because I do like the shop, but I just need to give up on their bubble teas. read more

I love tea and was so excited to visit The Tea House on our trip to Tawas. However I was so disappointed when I left. When we arrived it was a Sunday afternoon and it was literally empty other than two high school girls working. I can only assume they were somehow related to owners because they were incredibly rude. Flavor after flavor was out which was upsetting but every time something was out we were answered with an eye roll. It's such a shame that the employees ruined this location for us. Tawas does not have much to offer as far as restaurants go but this one is for sure off our list. read more

One of my favorite tea shops. They have a wonderful selection of drinks and food. Only down fall to this place is the owner. She has a terrible attitude and has a reputation for being rude. I've been here a few times before and it was alright. Sadly the employees this most recent visit were extremely rude and unhelpful. We walked in didn't get greeted then proceeded to get dirty looks from three employees, one was rude enough to continue to stare at my friend and give her dirty looks. While my friends and I were deciding, we had no help from the employees. Instead we were met with their scoffs and laughter. The tea itself is bitter, the flavor is not present at all, the tapioca was hard, unsweetened and balled up which made it extremely difficult to suck through the straw. The workers were very rude. When we walked in they didn't greet us and they just stared at us as we were trying to figure out our orders and it was very uncomfortable. They were talking about how they made the tapioca bubbles wrong right in front of us after we had ordered them as if we couldn't hear them. The drinks were not good and would not recommend. We've been here 4-5 times over the years, and it's really a mixed bag. I always get bubble tea, and it's a good quality, but I was met with very rude service last year. This year, I got a latte as I was very tired and needed caffeine more than bubbles, and my latte was....odd. It was almost all milk, with a very strange flavor to it. I got a mint-chocolate syrup, and nowhere near enough was added, so the slight hint of flavor just made the entire thing taste lousy. For $5, it should have been at least decent. My sister and her wife shared a bubble tea, and the price came out to $7! They still have no idea what made the price so high. The service here is really hit-and-miss, the bubble tea is great, but their other drinks need work. read more

My wife loves the tea, but the rude service cancels out anything positive I can say about this place. We have 4 small children and thought we would make one stop for tea and lunch. If you have an hour to wait to have lunch served then go for it. With hungry kids, this is not the best choice. I could understand if the place was packed, but the staff didn't seem to care. Have gone there for a good cup of coffee every chance when in East Tawas, but today, the young wait person poured 2/3 of the 16 ounce cup with coffee then filled the rest with hot water. When I complained that watering down the coffee would ruin the flavor she said "oh, it will still have plenty of flavor." Needless to say it ended up a cup with little flavor. Sorry, but the long time patron will not be back. read more
