Only the bar was open Sunday afternoon. You enter at the hotel desk and have to be buzzed up to the 8th floor. Did not have bar food on Sunday. A few speciality drinks. Great service. Quiet compared to the harbor front just below. read more

This place is a gem! Not only does it have some of the most reasonable prices in Norway for a meal,…read morebut it serves tasty food in a relaxed atmosphere with a great view of the fjord. My wife and I stopped here while biking from Bygdoy to Aker Brygge, and we're so glad we did. We sat outside though it had just rained and they very kindly wiped down a table for us. The staff were kind and courteous and inviting , and though they spoke English(like most do) they helped me practice my poor Norwegian when I told them I wished to practice. The Fiskesuppe is flavorful and generous! It has great consistency--neither too dense or thin. My wife ordered a grilled fish that was also wonderful. The menu is straightforward. Great place to have a meal or a beer.
God, gammeldags kro med fish'n'chips.

Relaxing chill place to have modern Scandinavian food and a very cool cloak room, I wish…read morerestaurants in the states could be trusted with one. I love their tasting menu which was the Raw marinated halibut, tomato & chili, Celeriac, dried heart & dulse, Scallop, sunchoke & elderflower, Today's fish, mussels & leek, Duck from Holte, kale & beetroot, Sea buckthorn, pumpkin & brown cheese and all of it balanced nicely. All of that for roughly 90 USD you can't complain at all! Service was good, and knowledgeable which was great, would come back here again next time back in Oslo.

If you find yourself in Oslo and want a dining experience that evokes something uniquely Norwegian,…read moreat least without having to spend an arm, a leg and any other appendage, well, you're in luck. This is an ideal outdoor spot on a balmy evening since it's in the pedestrian plaza right next to the central train station. After spending the day looking at naked statues, appreciating Nobel peace prizes, and walking on the opera house rooftop, Jamie W. and I were tuckered out and didn't want to venture too far from our hotel. We just walked across the street and found a table quite easily here even though it was obviously quite popular with young Oslolites (...is that what they're called?). We were pretty famished since it was a long time since the complimentary breakfast buffet at the hotel. First up were the 79 NOK ($7.90 US) plate of Truffle Fries topped with grated parmesan with a side of truffle mayonnaise (photo: https://bit.ly/3CX84vq). Less Norwegian, more TGIFriday's but satisfying nonetheless. More Norwegian was the 149 NOK ($15 US) Norwegian Red Beetroot. It was served with horseradish cream, pickled onions, and Jerusalem artichoke crisps (photo: https://bit.ly/3R9zSBb). It was just four bites but tasty and earthy in a different way. We moved on to the entrees from there and split two between us. First was the 219 NOK ($22 US) Chicken Salad where they marinated chicken breast in mustard and grilled it. It topped a bed of mixed greens, buckwheat, tomatoes, and radish, all of it drizzled with tarragon mayonnaise (photo: https://bit.ly/3RyNVQr). The mustard and buckwheat added a Norwegian dimension to an American standard. Then came the heartier 259 NOK ($26 US) Steak Sandwich which appeared to center around a tender grilled flank steak with the same accompaniments as the beetroot - horseradish cream, pickled onions, and Jerusalem artichoke crisps (photo: https://bit.ly/3qagzMf), We saved room for dessert, the 149 NOK ($15 US) White Chocolate Sphere which became a table performance with a tiny pitcher of hot raspberry coulis poured over the white chocolate and raspberry cream (photo: https://bit.ly/3qfPTcM). A bit showy but a nice finish. It made us feel like upscale Norwegians dining al fresco. FOOD - 4 stars...melding of Norwegian and American culinary sensibilities into appetizing dishes AMBIANCE - 4 stars...casual and relaxing, the nice weather was the key advantage that evening SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty attentive considering the crowds TOTAL - 4 stars...a good way to sample Norway through your palate RELATED - Exploring Norway? I admit, I missed the sign by the door that said "please wait to be seated" and I proceeded another 4 feet when I stopped and asked her if I should wait to be seated. I have never been chastised like this in a restaurant for a simple mistake like this. I should have turned and walked out after the way she scolded and chastised me for not reading the sign but I was in a bit of shock. Bacchus has been a staple for me when come to Oslo for work but as long as she is "greeting" guests, I'll take my money elsewhere.

My friend had the pulled pork sandwich. It was a very generous serving of such a delicious sandwich. The pork was lightly marinated and it was served on toasted bread. The lunch menu is sparse and minimalistic, which is how I like my apartment. If you're not much of a meat eater you're out of luck. We ordered the deep fried egg on asapragus with lardon and cheese sauce. The asparagus was of the fibrous variety, when it could have been succulent and flavorful. The lardon was a piece of connective tissue better suited as floss. The egg was cool looking, but the delicate flavor was unfortunately lost by the overpowering spice crust. The cheese sauce was good enough. I love conceptual dishes and if they consist of 4 ingredients they better be stellar. Because if two or three is off you shine less than you suck. When running a concept based restaurant you run the risk of seeming contrived if you can't serve up four good ingredients that complement each other. The weak brown beverage resembling coffee, to their defense was on par with other Norwegian "coffee".

We ordered the 8 course menu with a Prosecco as a welcome drink. There were many exciting varieties consisting of fish, shellfish, meat and a dessert. Some of the dishes challenged the taste buds but it was very tasty. The only thing that was a little bit 'disappointing' if I may say so, was the meat course which consisted of a kind of taco-course with pulled pork and tortilla. Please don't misunderstand - it tasted good but compared with the rest of the dishes it was a little bit more like something you serve home with your family a a Friday evening. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The interior is stylish and has an exclusive touch.
