Great place to relax with friends with very low prices. $2 beer and $3 mixed drinks! Can't beat that. Everyone is always friendly

I went here based on other yelp reviews while headed to Galena. The first word I can think of to…read moredescribe this place is "musty" and the ambiance is lacking. However, the bartenders were both very nice and the cheeseburger was decent and very reasonable that came with not homemade chips. The Italian beef on special was ok. It is not the kind of place to make a destination place for lunch or dinner but rather a beer place.

It was decided that Morts & Saint's was going to be our dining experience for the night. Upon arrival the place came across as a total dive bar. Don't get me wrong, I love dive bars, they have some of the best food and the locals usually are willing to bend your ear with tales about the town. The seating area was small, only a handful of tables and the bar. We had a group of 6, which meant we had to take up two tables. That's not an issue for us, but keep in mind it's not good for groups. Let's just get to the brass tacks of this review. I don't recommend Morts & Saint's. The first thing I noticed is that the cooking area is behind the counter where you can see everything the cook does, I mean EVERYTHING... Like most dive bars the place could use some repairs... and cleaning. A lot of cleaning. From the looks of the signs, clocks, decorations, etc... The internet may still have been dial up the last time someone cleaned it thoroughly. Everyone of us ordered burgers, I watched as the cook pulled the frozen patties out of the chest freezer next to the flat top and put them on with his bare hands, no gloves... no washing... handling other food items, then doing other tasks, only to go back to food handling again.... Multiple times. The burgers were frozen patties thrown on grill... no thawing, no seasoning... just on the grill that moments before was used to prepare something else. I had the Lena Rae burger, I others ordered the Mort Burger, the Flamin' Mort, and a Swiss Mushroom. Honestly, the best part of the burger was Chips that came with them. The burger itself was mediocre at best. How people are saying this is the best burger in town is beyond me. Honestly, they only thing I can say positive about the burger is that for the price, it's not bad. Each burger at the time we went was between $6 to $8. It's not a bad burger, it's just painfully average. However, if they keep their prices like that, I can see how it will attract people. If you enjoy a good dive bar, you don't want to spend money, and you feel like risking a good health code violation or two... Morts & Saint's is for you. ...oh and the service is what you expect. Local staff spending more time talking to regulars. Our waitress seemed to be more concerned with flirting with customers at the bar than taking orders, filling drinks, bringing us a check, etc.

Ah, good old Cub and Spanks…read more.. Now I've only been coming here for the past couple of months, but they fulfill a couple of requirements I require in a bar. 1) cheap drinks. And I don't mean this place is the kind of establishment that serves drinks in red solo cups, they serve them in regular plastic tumbler cups, and they're not bottom shelf garbage liquids either. A Jameson and Ginger ale will set you back a whopping $4. I feel like I'm stealing from the bar when I drink here! This is a good thing. 2) conversational level of crowd noise. This place has never been so loud that I couldn't hear the person I was sitting with, granted, we haven't come here on a Friday or Saturday night, so consider that the asterisk. I prefer a place where u don't need a bullhorn to talk to someone 3 feet away. 3) shuffleboard table. This place will always have a special place in my heart since I popped my shuffleboard cherry here on September 30th after closing out Charter Fitness. However, they've since replaced the old board with a new-fangled board with the prison bars that come up in the middle to avoid free plays, and the table is but crooked. Not that I'm a cheapskate and try to play for free, but the sand gets stuck in the holes so when you start a game, you have to manually push the bars in in order to allow your pucks to slide freely from end to end. I know, I know, #firstworldproblems 3) jukebox. Since the beginning if time, man has attempted to push forth their culture on those around them, and this is the perfect way to do it. You can even control the jukebox from your phone! Well, your smartphone at least. I don't think your Motorola StarTAC is going to help you out here, nor will your Nokia 8200. 4) regulars. You will see the same people day in day out here, whatever day of the week. They may or may not remember that you had a conversation about whatever you had a conversation about, but they're friendly. Or you can chalk it up to this place being a townie bar, but I won't call it that. Come to Cubbies, sidle up to the bar, and maybe drop a buck on a game of shuffleboard or two. If I'm there, say hello and challenge me to a game. I might show you a thing or two. Or not. I've only been playing for a couple if months...
