The Tidal Doula serves the entire Twin Cities from her home in Robbinsdale. Emily is a DONA-certified birth doula who is passionate about evidence-based care and support for all birthing families. Emily's a big geek who loves to laugh in labor and create lasting connections through education and support. A doula is a nonjudgmental, unbiased, constant support system for the birthing person. Emily offer's care to everyone regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex or gender, sexual orientation, military or veteran status, ability, age, or religion. Every birth is as unique as the people who are involved, and Emily is so excited to be a part of yours! The Tidal Doula also offers sibling doula support, birth photography, and parenting classes/childbirth education for clients.

History

Established in 2015.

The Tidal Doula was created in the summer of 2015. After the birth of my daughter, I knew that supporting families through the transformative experience of childbirth was my life calling. I have trained with DONA International in a Birth Doula Workshop, Breastfeeding Support for Doula's (2015), LGTBQ Positive Doula Training with Queer Birth Project (2016), Cultural Competency and Privilege in Birth work with Ahava Birth Works (2016), Transgenerational Trauma and Resilience Among African American Mothers with Maternal Mental Health Now (2018) and Cultural Sensitivity in Health-Care with International Women's Day, For Women of African Descent Conference (2019). I am committed to growing my craft, knowledge, and compassion I can show for all of the birthing people I support.

I'm a certified birth doula out of Robbinsdale who is passionate about compassionate and evidence-based care for all families. I'm a big geek who really strives for authentic connections with my clients, as I support them in all of their birth choices. My goal as a doula is that my clients feel supported and confident during their entire pregnancy and childbirth, so that they can start their journey into parenthood (or parents of additional children) in the best possible way. I have two kiddo's of my own (Aurora's 4 and Thorin's 1), and when I'm not doula-ing I'm typically chasing after them, cooking vegetarian food, bingeing Netflix shows, or harassing our two cats Mulder and Scully.

As a first time parent, you literally have no idea what you're doing. The best thing I think you…read morecan do is to have a community around you who can help guide you, and Amma feels like a great first step to creating this community. We were recommended coming here by friends and our hospital, and ended up taking a one day class for newborns and breastfeeding, and a one day class for childbirth. I am also just starting my New Mama class with my month old infant (and I have heard fantastic things about the new mama class!) so I'm excited to experience that as well. Amma feels like a safe space for new parents to ask questions (I literally asked if I needed to worry about birthing a child into the toilet - a weird irrational fear I've always had, and they didn't laugh at me) and learn about this new stage of our lives. I'm really glad the twin cities has a resource like Amma. For pregnant people coming in - bring snacks to classes and consider bringing chair support - the chairs are not necessarily the most comfortable, but they do have a few yoga balls in case that is better for you.

If you haven't read any parenting books and this is your first baby, then I'd say the price is well…read moreworth it. Highly recommend the All In One Express class. They did a great job condensing key things from delivery process, postpartum, car seat safety, breastfeeding, newborn care, and putting on diapers. Due to our busy schedule the 7hr class in Edina worked for us. Don't be scared of the long session, you get several 5 min breaks and a lunch break. Their chairs weren't so bad for me, but I also had the step stool and/balance ball as an option. It was interesting hearing our instructor Tanya's personal perspective given that she's a mother and L&D nurse. She was great at getting the group to engage, so it wasn't just her lecturing the entire time. Given the good experience we might check out other classes like Infant CPR and/or Infant Sign Language.

My girlfriend and I went to visit her daughter and have lunch…read more This is what she thought, "I thought the portion size was perfect for me:) it was huge for a kid! Two meals for $7.30 is a steal. I'm going back for sure!" I thought that the lunch period was a little short, but the portion size was not big so that was a non-issue. It should be noted that her daughter paid far less than we did. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.35. Also that adults that ran the lunch room were super nice and very helpful, almost as if not having to bend down to talk to somebody immediately cheered them up. The condiments were not easy to find as they were located slightly above knee level. 5 stars, we will be back!! =)

This is the last in my series related to my knee surgery to replace a torn ACL. I came to this conclusion because 1) their web site is a single page in the St. Croix Ortho web site, and 2) their office is in the same building as the St. Croix Ortho clinic in Stillwater. So it's not surprise that when my doc said I needed to get a post-op knee brace before my surgery that he recommended The Brace Place. It was only a few days (maybe a week) before my surgery, so I didn't have time to shop around and had no idea where to start. I feel like he should have disclosed the face that they owned it. With that said, however, I'm pretty happy with the shop. There is one main guy that runs the place and he usually has an assistant in the office with him. I've been there three or four different times and each time there is a different assistant. But all of them knew their stuff. They were able to answer my questions, were very friendly, and never talked down to me. The main guy is a bit grumpy when you talk to him over the phone, but when you get him talking about what he really knows (braces), he gets friendlier. I wanted to go in to get an adjustment on a brace and didn't want to make an official appointment because I knew it would only take a few minutes. When I called, he complained how busy he was, but he would see if he could help. It was around the Holidays, so he didn't have help and when I got there, I had to wait 15 minutes before he showed up. But he was very helpful once I saw him and got the brace adjusted. It turned out I was putting it on wrong, but he wasn't condescending or impatient about it. Overall, I would recommend The Brace Place for any of your medical bracing needs. You can get basic braces for limbs and joints off the Internet for cheaper, but if you need a "professional" one for surgery or active sports, I wouldn't shy away from recommending them.
