Genuinely wanted this to be a 5 star experience. Came in looking for tile for a bathroom remodel. The Tile Shop does have an excellent selection of tile, really something for every project. Bob helped us look at tile options and was very attentive and helpful in showing us our options. We settled on a subway tile option for our shower. The sample block made it appear that the tile was all the same size and could form a uniform subway tile appearance when installed which is what we wanted. Bob didn't tell us anything to the contrary regarding how this tile would look when installed. Bob also gave us recommendations for tile installers as The Tile Shop doesn't provide any in-house installation services. He gave us a few names of installers and told us two especially were highly recommended if they were available to take our job. One was, and we felt confident that he had been so highly recommended that we went with him. However, when it came to installing the tile the tile/grout lines were all askew and crooked. The installer told us this was because of the tile we chose. While the edges on the tile weren't 100% straight, this is something we absolutely weren't told when purchasing the tile and not the look we wanted, and honestly a lot of the issue seemed to be rushed installation and lack of attention to detail. We had him take down and redo a section of the shower that was completely un-aligned, and it did look considerably better. But overall still not the look we wanted; however, we didn't have the money to take it all down and pick a different tile and new installer. After asking him to redo the worst portion, anything further we asked he proceeded to make snide comments and call us "picky, picky". We had to have him come back and fix a bunch of air pockets in the grout because he must have grouted when it was still bubbling. There are still several other issues we've noticed since then, and overall we are incredibly disappointed this installer recommendation. So please, please if you work with The Tile Shop ensure the tile you're buying will work with the look you're going for and very throughly vet out any installer recommendations so you have a better experience than we had. read more

We were having a rough time selecting the finishing trim tile for our backsplash. We were told to call The Tile Shop. we did. Shelby answered the phon. She was so friendly. We made an appointment and met with her the same day. She had the perfect answer for our finishing tile dilemma. It was so easy and handled very quickly. The tile shop manager handled this situation. He spoke to me kindly, respectfully and actually cared. He held a dialogue and heard me. He also was accepting of suggestions and kindly heard that I did not want Evan fired. I wanted him coached and taught proper customer service. Also spoke that some people are just not meant for customer service. The coaching and process improvement plans can also teach people if they are meant to be in that field. Thank you kind sir. I love home decor projects. I shop at every single store I can get to, as well as online. I have never had better, more personal service that I had at The Tile Shop at the Sterling Heights store. Evan Matti was my salesperson. He not only helped me select a tile. He was super patient as I changed my mind, shared pictures of my project, changed my mind again, changed my paint color, changed my mind, and finally settled on my tile. He helped me determine how much tile I needed based on my sloppy measurements, he helped me figure out the extra supplies I needed for a full bathroom/shower remodel, with pieces I didn't even know existed, like trim and steps, and he even ordered a part from another store for me so I was sure to get exactly what I needed. (the little metal trim piece for my shower). Evan spoke directly to my tile guy several times to ensure that I was getting the right materials and within the timeline that my job was to be completed. Evan was in constant contact and communicated with me on a daily basis, sometimes many times per day. He updated me, reassured me and encouraged me throughout the entire process. Evan was beyond a professional salesperson; he was truly invested in my project and honestly wanted me to be 110% satisfied with the final project. I was so excited to share pictures of every step of the way as well as the final product. I am moving onto my next project, my laundry room. I will not shop anywhere else aside from The Tile Shop and Evan and his team will be my salespeople for life. Once again I write a review for this particular location about being less than pleased with the customer service. This time the interaction was over the phone w/ Debbie. For a work place that is partially commissioned based, you'd think they'd be more pleasant. She needs some training on verbal communication and customer service when speaking with a regular customer. I wouldn't visit this location if it weren't for convenience, in fact, I'm actually going to check if Lowe's has what I need instead. I like shopping where people are excited to do their job. I'm not saying that what I get I Lowe's, but when I go there I don't need to communicate with the associates because everything I need is usually accessible. read more

We went with Anton from the list of installer. Pretty laid back cat but kept plugging alone with quality looking work. He even threw in some helpful suggestions as a person of tile install skill. I wish the photos were apple phone quality but I paid for tile job instead but I hope it shows enough. went in knowing exactly what I wanted. white subway tile. the woman says "tell me you're kidding " when I told her what I wanted. then proceeded to show me tiles I did not want. I told her I wanted the white subway tiles and she says we can't get those anymore then continues to try to show me other backsplash. I said I'll just go somewhere else because that's what I want. then she steps away for one minute and comes back and says oh looks like we do carry those again. not sure why she cared what I was getting. I guess they were not expensive enough or something. she was rude showing me grout choices. not friendly at all. Great selection of tile but very poor customer service. Pick out what you want take pictures or model number and go to the tile shop next door to it. You will save money and aggravation. They like to come up with random policy's on returning tile which they do not make clear up front. I am not alone, I see another person on here with the same problems. read more

Very good selection of tile. I think you can pretty much can find just about anything you could want. They have a lot of displays which are very helpful when making decorating and tile decisions. They are a little pricier than tile you would find at the box stores but I also think a lot of it is better quality. For a shopping experience, the bathrooms and kitchens that are set for display are very helpful and provide some great 'where to I start?' Inspiration. Would not recommend this company. First order wasn't measured right and was short half a room of tile. Returned it and then Evan ordered the new tile I picked out. Loaded it during Friday's rain storm and got home and realized it was the wrong tile. Returned it Saturday and they said I would have to reorder it and wait another 10 days but they would give me a discount. Then Evan says we have exactly the right amount of your tile you need that belongs to someone else. Let me call them and I can give it to you for full price. I said no thank you because I think that was my tile all along and they just messed up my order. Left without buying anything. Wasted 6 weeks tying to get tile from these idiots!! read more

Recently had my bathroom re-done and was appalled with the communication. My wife and I are generally easy to please...so I think the issues simply came down to the on site consultant / salesperson that we dealt with. We picked a series of tiles/ trims that we're an exact match of their demo and they still managed to not have our tile .. When we payed $2500.00 two weeks before install we were not informed of any issues of stocking. I mean... Really it was a demo... Not a rare and hard to find tile. I had 2 bathrooms to remodel. Jerry (Jerome) was tireless working with me (I'm picky) - offering color combinations and a unique design which I absolutely love. We walked through the aisles and he showed me different files to learn my style, and then modified his suggestions met my style. That saved me so much time as I got to select from tiles that matched my personal style. For one bathroom, he recommended that I bring in photos (my daughter texted them to me in real time) - so that there would not be a mismatch when I got home. Both samples he sent me home with would have worked. He checked stock as I selected - so that I wouldn't select something that his store could not deliver. First of all im giving 4 stars to the management and salespeople for the help in selecting our tile, giving me a written guarantee on any problems i may encounter with quality of our tile and for assisting me thru a problem we had with a contractor/installer that we selected from a list of contractors and installers available at the front desk. These installers are not employed by the store but the list is supplied if you ask for it. Its your own business who you hire. But what if you have problems with your job and the installers. I give (1 star) for my experiences with 2 contractor/ installers where i had 2 different bad experiences. Last fall my wife and i wanted to remodel a small bathroom. 3 contractors were interviewed from that list,and all sounded well suited for our job. We went with best, lowest estimate, mr. Roger Morgan. Nice guy, even offered to give us his discount from the store if he bought the material. While taking my cash and credit card to the store to pay on the material i found discrepancies in what was ordered. The walls needed 68 sqare foot of marble tile. They are different shape from ceiling and floor tile. An EXTRA 80 FEET was ordered of the tile for the walls. That was 148 sq feet ordered. The over ordered amount would have cost me an EXTRA 1000.00 dollars that may not have coming back to us. When we called mr. Morgan he didnt offer an explanation or apology, infact he yelled and was upset i saw what was ordered. We cancelled his doing our job. I reported this to store manager and he helped us out by giving us a store discount. We then went with mr. Anton Sili, the higher priced of the 3 but he showed pictures of much larger jobs. His guys left a good looking job. Problems encountered: Polished Queen beige marble tile is not polished by mechanical buffing but is dull finish and coated with a polyeurathane like coating which gives the shine as we found out when a 1" by 2" pealed off looking as if the marble was chipped. Im not sure which wears better as there is no info on the subject. The piece was replaced free of charge by installer and store. Store manager gave us written guarantee to fix any problems we may encounter with flaws in the tile. Now to enjoy our shower. *** Store policy: installers get full refund of any material returned that they purchased. If they pay cash for the material , they will get cash back when its returned.*** read more
