What an amazing place, I've heard of places that do a good Guinness, but this is really something else. Located in Soho, it really is a little piece of Ireland in London. There are about 6 Guinness taps and only a couple of taps reserved for other (obviously less important) beers. Usually it is the other way around, but not here. Even most places in Ireland aren't like that. The place is really dark and kind of feels like a cave. You could really forget about the outside world for a while if you wanted too stay there for a few hours.

This place is as authentic as it gets. Easily the best Guinness I've had in London, and one of the best pints of beer I've had in my life. The pub is very tiny, and is lined with hundreds of Guinness posters and Irish decorations. They have the standard Guinness branded pint glasses, but for the first time that I've seen they even had the similar Guinness branded half-pint glasses. The sign caught my eye when I walked past, it read "Great Guinness, Good Food," capturing a funny attitude that their beer is incredible but the food is just decent. It is busy even on weeknights, but the attentive bar staff was friendly and fast. They were also laid back and took frequent smoke breaks leaving a casually unmanned bar. They accepted card with no minimum, and a pint of Guinness was £4.80. That's a bit more than the average pint here, but once you try it you'll understand the difference is absolutely worth it, plus it is still 25% cheaper than an average Guinness back home in NYC (which comparatively tastes terrible)!

3/1/15 The best time of my life was photographed at the Toucan. 20 years ago. Hope I have more pints to go...

3/1/15 I was there in Feb of 1995 with Kenny Costello, JoAnne, her sister, and a rowdy bunch of friends. Kevin was tending bar. Kenny and I were the Americans. In the pic, I'm on the right and Kenny is the laughing man just to the lower left. I think we fit in well. Best pints, not just in London, but in most everywhere. Kenny has passed on, but I'm still here to yelp about that 20-year old night of fun. Stay toasty, PK, NYC, USA

Decided to stop by here with my guy as we strolled along the road. We didn't interact much with the patrons or bartenders. An order was placed for two Guinness beers. There's a lovely display of parrots on the ceiling. If you're too busy looking out the door or somewhere else.. you might miss the display.

Cosy little place with great Guinness. It's a great place for the craic. Toilet leaves a lot to be desired though.

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
