Michelle and Gary, the owners of Waters Edge are great at what they do and clearly love their work…read more I first visited Waters Edge a few years ago when they first opened, and Gary helped me to buy everything that I needed to setup a small water garden in a container on my front porch. The plants were beautiful and healthy. Their garden store is small, but they have a few nice water gardens for inspiration and many ideas on display. Then last year we started looking for a landscape architect or designer to help us come up with a comprehensive landscape design for our 10+ acre farmette. We focused on landscape companies with a focus on water gardens, because we wanted a large water feature in our backyard. We also needed someone who could help us create beautiful, natural looking windbreaks for our horses' run-in sheds, shade for the horses and us, and windbreaks to help prevent drifting snow on our driveway. Michelle's (and Gary's) Penn State education and experience in both landscape design and horticulture proved to meet all of our needs. She was able to not only come up with an awesome design, but also to help us select plants that will be hardy for our winters, disease and drought resistant, and as deer resistant as possible. She was great at helping to consider the impact our dog will have on our plants and backyard water feature, and made recommendations to accommodate all of our family members, even those with four legs! Michelle was very easy to work with and we love her detailed designs. She was quick to respond to emails and phone calls, and educated us at each step in the process. She even spent an entire afternoon driving us around to see some of her past work to get ideas and so that we would be confident in her ability. She provided a simple but detailed contract and written estimate before any work was performed, and kept within our budget. We've installed the first phase of our landscape design, which is a tree-lined driveway (1/3 of mile). Michelle designed to avoid planting near overhead power lines to prevent severe trimming of the trees when they get bigger. They worked with us to carefully select the variety of trees and to locate the largest and healthiest specimens possible for our money. Michelle and Gary along with one employee carefully planted the 40 trees, including amending the soil with compost/peat, staking the trees with three supports, fertilizing, mulching around them, providing tree bags to hold a week's worth of water, adding mesh guards around the trunks to prevent deer rubbing, and did the initial watering of all the trees. We are very happy with our new and improved driveway. The trees, although still small now, dramatically improved the look of our property. I highly recommend Waters Edge for all of your landscaping projects.

Overall, we were very pleased with all aspects of working with Raintree! Our project was completed…read moreby Raintree for 3 weeks in June 2020. Scope was varied and included 1) a total redo with leveling a 2 level existing patio with terraced walled garden/steps and adding lighting, 2) adding a new patio,3) rebuilding/pressure washing of 3 other existing patios one with an addition of a surface drain. We did extensive competitive research with numerous other companies for months and were very frustrated with the very poor customer communications of other companies that didn't even call us back or respond with an estimate despite constant follow up calls/emails on our part. But with Raintree we were extremely pleased with both how they worked with us from initial inquiry to the end and the excellent quality of their work. Sean and Ben provided quick responses to our many questions (particularly during the design) - even if to tell us when to expect detailed answers. They also did great job of transitioning from design/planning (Sean) to execution (Ben) so we knew who was the primary contact at all times. All time commitments /schedules throughout were always met. We had an issue where a bit of the design needed to be adjusted because it just didn't work in 'real life' - Ben patiently did extra work to show us options and willingly made the agreed upon adjustment. The crew was great - very pleasant and patient, for example they in let us choose specific placement of particular natural stone steps so it had the best look. And the guys really worked hard and efficiently - we could tell they really took pride in their work. Raintree is not the cheapest hardscaping contractor - but their results were well worth the investment: Beautifully done stonework on the patio/walls/steps. Importantly, they ensured proper drainage away from house of both new patios and rebuilt patios. The project required extensive yard reconstruction (probably about 1/3 acre, with slope etc). The grading of our yard is excellent and grass planted is growing in beautifully. In summary, we strongly recommend Raintree for anyone with hardscape projects.
