It might look unwelcoming and unattractive from the outside, but The Turnpike isn't a bad place to go for a few pints. At £1.60 for a pint of Alpine Lager, you could do a lot worse than spend the afternoon in here playing darts and chatting away to the clientele, all of whom have a great sense of humour.

It has a quiet and tucked-away smoking area out back, above which, the regulars will warn you, lives a ferocious dog or two which should more than deter you from venturing up there. The friendly bar staff alone are enough reason to visit, and will be happy to explain the merits of the 'live beer', which continues to strengthen the older it gets!
Altogether a very modest pub which is full of character. read more
