This place is in the pedestrian mall on Steven Street or eighth Avenue. They have outdoor and indoor seating. The service is very good and the food is even better. Everything was cook just right and the portions are generous. The menu has lots of options from salads to burgers to full meals. Very popular during happy hours. This is also a great spot to just have a drink and watch people pass by. read more

Heard the old unicorn was really good. What happened here. So came here on a Wednesday night after work. Guess what... it was wings night for $0.29 each with a purchase of a drink. I got ice tea with my honey garlic wings. The wings are smaller but they were not that flavorful. Skin was crispy... somewhat. The taste was lacking but for $0.29... well it was cheap. The place wasn't pack on a Wednesday night. So that tells you there cheap wings were not that attractive. Service was ok. Their décor was pretty cool. There are two parts of this bar. Parking can be a pain because its located downtown. But again, its good to come here after work with colleagues. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. Last night, I was physically assaulted for dancing to the music the live band was performing. Make no mistake, this will be reported. When the owner or bouncer reads this... Do you really think "I'm just following the rules/following my orders" is a valid excuse at this point? I am now going to make it a point to group you in with Ship and Anchor's segregation model. I will not return to this venue until I am met with an apology and beer. I used to love coming to the unicorn with my boyfriend on the weekend and playing darts in the back. However, last time we were there, they suddenly turned the TV up really loudly for an unannounced sports game. Usually they reserve sports events for the upper floor, but this time, without any warning, we were having to shout to each other to hear each other over the disruptive noise. Upon complaining, they did absolutely nothing, other than mutter a pathetic apology and insist that it's not too loud and it's not bothering us. Excuse me? You don't have a right to decide what bothers us or not. Would have appreciated a discount on our bill for our troubles but instead we probably wont be returning here any time soon. read more

The food was great but the servers were terrible. I was here for a company's stampede function. They had ordered a pig roast along with a buffet style assortments of other meats to make your own sliders and sides. The buffet consists of beef and pork roast, baked beans, potato salad, veggies and ranch dip, assortment of cookies and the pig roast. Though the food and drinks were decent, the waitresses will only bring you drinks on the menu. If you asked for water, you're expected and are told to go get your own from a pitcher near the buffet spread. Overall, the food was good. The service was bad and ultimately left a bad taste in the overall experience. read more

Service is great! Came here to get some drinks before the Stampede event. $4 bullet shots. Not sure if this was a Stampede special. Ordered cocktails--old fashion and angry apple. Tacos were pretty small, but for 2$ per taco, I had some awesome chicken and fish tacos with a cerveza. They were good, like 7/10 tacos. I enjoyed Taco tuesday here WAY more than at Julios Barrio. 3rd visit I had a Rueben. It was awesome, really great flavors in the smoked meat, the rye bread was good. Friends and I stopped there for a drink. A couple came in literally less than a minute ahead of us and got served. Instead, our group of friends got rejected and was told they had done last call. On our way out, we drove back to the McDonalds and the couple right ahead of us had a fresh glass of drinks. The servers are aggressive with awful attitudes. Our group was yelled at to get out of their way many times (plenty of room to maneuver around, plus if they didn't have Reserved signs on half the bar's tables at 11pm at night, maybe so many people wouldn't be in their way). At a certain point, I was roughly shoved from behind by a server. We moved upstairs for a bite to eat. Our server refused to bring us water, telling us she was too busy and there might be someone else around who could bring some. Water showed up 45 minutes later. The server would let one of us speak and order and then run away before anyone else could order or add anything. Finally, friend bit into her sandwich and got a tasty mouthful of plastic twist tie. Mortified, she called the server over to show her, to which the server replied "well I didn't make the sandwich!" By far, the absolute worst experience I have had in this city. Overrated bar with entitled 20 somethings riding on some bizarre good reputation, with zero interest in being decent human beings to the people who keep them employed. The abundance of other reviews complaining about the server's crap attitudes should be enough to keep you away. I will forever tell this story to anyone who will listen. Working downtown in O & G, with people constantly asking me for dining recommendations, should be easy peasy to keep a few people from this nasty experience. read more

The magical Unicorn has re-appeared from it's dark dungeon and is now a . . . Superpub! The menu is still pretty mediocre, nothing jumps out at you but it's probably because they're trying to reclaim their fame as downtown's best known watering hole. (I had the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza - very garlicky but flavorful and filling!) Their patio is pretty decent. It's roomy, nicely shaded and perfect for people watching down Stephen Ave. Although I don't love it here, I like it a lot more than their previous location! read more

I love the Unicorn and usually would give it 5 stars for great service, delicious food and so much fun with friends. We were celebrating after work, 2 Fridays ago, and had a lovely meal and drinks and we were waiting for my son's girlfriend before ordering more. When she arrived at the door they asked her for ID and she only had a picture of her passport so they wouldn't let her in. They refused to serve us so our group had to leave and go elsewhere! She just had her 30th birthday and she thinks that the staff may have been racially prejudiced. I think maybe jealous because she is beautiful. I know that there are rules about ID but if so why was she the only person asked for ID? We had another in our group who is younger than 30 but ID was not asked for. We had to leave and we were served at a different venue with no incident. I wish that they would have at least done something nice for us for future visits. read more

Came in yesterday for the first time after making a reservation online. We walked in and the hostess told us she didn't see our reservation so we showed her the confirmation email, she brushed us off rudely and told us they don't accept reservations during the fight that was on last night and turned us away without even offering to get us on the waiting list. First impression was horrible and didn't even get to try food or anything because of this. First and last time we will be there. read more

Stopped here before the Bruins/Flames game. It was like the closest place from the Saddledome, which seems kinda crazy. Nice place, great bars up and downstairs. Lots of seats at the bars. TV's everywhere and some cool stuff on the walls. Had a great teriyaki salad, you have to try it. The only knock, our bartender was an ok guy but looked like he hadn't seen water or a change of clothes for some time. I'm not usually that picky, but this was over the top. They did have some great beers on draft, so we were able to drink our way through the negative stuff. read more

My friend and I were super excited to come check this place out! We were very disappointed to say the least. We got there andsat at the bar and the bartender did not seem very friendly. We were rushed to place our orders. We both got a cool coconut breeze slushie drink and it tasted absolutely horrible, to the point where neither of us could drink it. Meanwhile all the managers and staff were eating McDonald's blizzards behind the bar. I have never been in a place where eating any kind of food behind the bar while on shift is acceptable. No one even washed their hands after eating before bringing us our food. Once our food was brought out the bartender (who was only serving us for like 25 minutes at this point) asks us to settle up with him cause he was going off shift. The manager on duty kept telling everyone to settle up and hopefully they can get out of there early. This was not what I was expecting and the customer service is unbelievable. Nice sports pub on two levels. They have a ground level patio. Daily specials. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Many TVs. The hummus plate was great and had cherry tomatoes on it. Didn't like the quesadilla as the peppers were fried in grease. Note to cooks: If you have cheese in a quesadilla you already have enough grease so just put in raw or dry pan fried peppers. I brought my friends there to treat them as a thank you and they decided to order potato chip appetizer... Who pays $14 for potato chips? Granted they were made in house, they were not out of a bag, but they were basically very very thin shaved potatoes deep fried. Therefore potato chips. How much would it cost to buy two potatoes? Maybe 50 cents??? And they charge $14 ??? I know there is a lot of labor involved... Etc.... But that was pretty crazy... our waitress was GORGEOUS and should be a movie star. DO NOT GO HERE. I just had the most horrific experience with the Unicorn downtown. My partner and I walked in and sat down when our waitress approached us saying "the manager told me not to serve you". She refused to tell us why. Shocked, we asked to speak to the manager, who would claim we were too drunk to be served. My partner and I were both completely sober and were not drinking at all but he insisted he would not serve us. Having completed ProServe training, I asked him to elaborate why he was under the impression I was drunk. He refused and had us escorted out by a security guard (extremely embarrassing). No employee would explain what was going on. I now believe that he heard us speaking Arabic on our way in and through that decided not to serve us. We've exhausted ourselves trying to understand why else he was so hostile to people he did not interact with. I'm so hurt by this experience and will not be returning any time soon. The waitress ignored us for nearly 20 minutes even when we tried to get her attention several times, servicing other patrons who came in later than us, taking care of their food orders before even acknowledging us. when we had enough with the lack of respect, we asked for our Bill's and the server gave us a mixture of surprise and attitude when we wanted to leave. This place is awesome. Great vibe and even greater staff. The national across the street denied our group of guys access due to the fact that we would upset the ratio of women to men. We would have been paying customers and waited in line patently just like any other customer and were denied access to the establishment. This new Unicorn location is huge - taking up the old Libertine space (sadface). It is a great place to grab a drink or dinner before a concert or sports event. 3 stars because the service was just okay, and the food was nothing memorable. So first off our server Jenna was phenomenal. Funny, engaging, and just an overall delight. Made the whole trip worth it because she was funny, engaging, and accepting of our drunk comments. 2nd: other bars around didn't matchup compared to the comments of Jenna but she didn't speak bad of the surrounding area. Going back for Jenna because she made the whole experience better. Staying because the beer was pretty good....not as dark as I like but stilll very good. read more

If you thought the legendary Unicorn had vanished into nothing but a myth, let me happily inform you that you're wrong! The Unicorn has been in hiding and it's been breeding! Oh yeah - there are now 3 Unicorns in the same building- Tricorn power!!! While they've got the original signage, the new Unicorn has gone in quite a different direction. Let's face it - we're not gonna find that old, dingy pub vibe with a new space - they made a good call in owning it's changes. Pub 1: Kitchen Party has got that good ol' east coast underground pub vibe. Of the three, this one most captures the delightfully divey spirit of what the Unicorn once was. Those of you who were fans of The Below Deck tavern, fear not! I'm told they're keeping some of the favourites on the menu including the Halifax Donair. I tried one right before the switch over to it becoming The Unicorn- so good. That's sweet sauce... They've also recently changed the beer selection up a bit and definitely not for the better. The Grizzly Paw became Coors Banquet? What the hell is up with that? I hope it's some sort rotating tap thing and not a leap in the wrong direction. Pub 2: Classic Calgary - Big windows, space for a Stephen Ave patio in summer - it will be a good space for daytime eatin' and drinking. We hit up this level for the half price pizza which is definitely worth it for $8. Not sure if go the Pizza route if it was $16, but the bacon wrapped sirloin with truffle aioli for $14 is a sizeable serving of protein I'd order again. I also had one of their suped up beers that have a shot in them. I love this concept and you can come up with some exciting combos. They she'd away from using craft beers for this which left the selection a little weak. Still, I opted for a steam whistle with a shot of Long Island. It definitely gives your Pilsner a nice pick me up. Along the wall they've got a bunch of tap handles from all sort of tasty beers. Unfortunately they seem to be moving away from serving any of them. I really hope this is not the case. I like how they have TVs visible for people sitting at the bar, but not all over the place so it doesn't interrupt your conversations. This level really is the most vanilla of the three and while its renovated nicely and I dig the wooden canoe on the ceiling and the beer keg lighting, it somehow seems to lack that Infectious personality. If you're feeling exceptionally corporate today, this might be your floor. I think I may have also been thrown off by the music. It's the first day, of course I'll let it slide - I just don't want to listen to Britney Spears and other expired top 40 pop at the pub, you know? It's the kind of music people play when they're trying to do what they think the people want instead of doing what they want to do. Just left and had the worst service ever. Ordered rye and coke got a rum and coke (don't do well with rum). Ordered nachos and bbq wings and watched our food sit on warming plate for 15 min and got honey garlic wings and cold cold nachos. Our sever was awful and never took the time to come visit us as we sat with empty drinks for over 20 min. This place was half full and there was no reason for this poor service. read more

We had booked a group of eight, hoping to get some of the Unicorn's classic food. We all loved the Red Rooster from the original location. When we called for a reservation, no one mentioned how the new system works with the three different floors and three different menus and no one asked us where we wanted to sit. They just booked on on the most convenient floor, the top level. When we got there, we were all disappointed that the Unicorn classics weren't on the menu. We asked our server about it and said she'd bring us a manager. The manager was completely unhelpful. He actually acted hostile to use when we asked if we could order off one of the other floors menus. He blamed use for not booking the reservation on the correct floor, even though we weren't even given the option to choose a floor when we booked. I understand that he can't bring us food from the other kitchen, but he acted very rude and dismissive of our contusion on how the new Unicorn works. The food was nothing like the old Unicorn and the experience with the manager completely ruined our visit. We will not be coming back. read more

We were not told this, just simply asked if we wanted 1 or 2 cups of it. If you're going to offer ranch, make sure it is known that it will cost extra. not really looking to spend 3$ on ranch. read more
