I love checking out bakeries that are new to me. I pulled into the parking lot and backed into a spot. I then walked in, with a male customer behind me. There were folks seated, stuffing themselves with baked goods and enjoying their conversations. I headed to the baked goods display. I started to drool. Butter tarts. Sourdough brownies. Crookies. I had my heart set on a pain au chocolat. This bakery called it pain aux chocolat. It threw me off. I had never seen it as aux (plural). Shouldn't it be pain aux chocolats if we are insisting on the plural? The woman behind the counter was patient with me. I wanted one pain au chocolat. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and my payment was complete. She put my yummy baked good in a paper bag. I thanked her and left the store, heading to my rental vehicle. I sat in my vehicle, eating my pain au chocolat. It isn't your traditional buttery, flaky croissant from Paris. Rather, it was a more dense baked good with a lot of quality dark chocolate. Maybe this croissant should be modernized to pain aux chocolats because there's a generous amount of chocolate. I just know that my various French teachers over the years would be upset seeing pain aux chocolat. I'd like to return and get a butter tart. It's a decent bakery. Prices do run on the steeper side. My pain au chocolat was $5.10 before taxes. (285)

Therefore, the bakery held a lot of nostalgia for me. I was very sad to hear they permanently closed. We visited the new Village Green Bakery today. Overall, we would say that the items we tried were good but not excellent. It is different and does not compare to Einfeld's baked goods, but we would buy things from them again if we were around there. Not sure if it would warrant a special trip to go to the bakery specifically. We tried: 1. Beach Bread - 4/5. More dense than the previous Irish loaves. Good flavor though and chewy. Fresh. 2. Sticky/Goo Buns - 3.5/5. Less gooey than previous pecan loaves, smaller, and the dough is harder and drier. Good balance of flavor though, and tastes homemade and not commercial. 3. Iced Cinnamon Buns - 3/5. Dough was better and lighter than the sticky buns, but would have preferred more filling and no icing as it made it too sweet. 4. Nutella Turnover - 3/5. Flaky and sugar crusted which was tasty. Could have used more filling - really lacking there. Just a tiny glob in the very middle. 5. Imperial/Dream Cookies - 3.5/5. Completely different than the previous dream cookies in almost every way. This used to be a staple in my order so I had really been hoping for something similar. Cookie was not as flaky, jam had seeds, and a totally different icing. But it was soft and tasted good. 6. Smile Cookies - 3/5. Different than the previous ones. Dough was drier but still chewy. Not as deep of flavor. Still good though. We would say it's worth a try. Everything was decent. We appreciate that they tried to keep some traditions, and also tried their own things.

The pecan loaf was decent but very expensive. when you take over a business most people would do their homework to realize that the people that use that bakeryDid not want things to change. We've been going to the bakery since the late 60s. I have to ask the question why would you want to take over a successful bakery in all aspects and do a wholesale change of the product and operation. This is about you taking over a business and now telling the customer I don't get up at four or 5 o'clock in the morning to run the bakery like it should. the new owner will run this I . it's been three years or so since you've opened up you're so-called bakery. We supported you for three years and we're done. There's not very many good things on the menu that would keep me coming back and even though you're expensive if it was I would roll. But with what's coming out of your in my has no heart and soul put into it. That's unfortunate. Good luck in the future because I don't think you're gonna have one not with that bakery. I hope your lease is up soon and they a new person in there to run it.
