I actually have a photo of being in four different states at once. It's a fun little adventure in the tiny town. Why not add it on to drive through to wherever you're going. Finding this stone was quite interesting considering how we pulled into a graveyard and had to drive all the way in the back. The rock is right underneath a highway bridge, and then look down towards the water. I don't remember seeing any signs or arrows pointing to the direction. Just went down a little trail and there it was. My husband and I took our cute little foot photos on the rock, enjoyed the beautiful scenery, hung out for a little while, then went on our way.

I've wanted to visit for a long time, so when I unexpectedly drove by it last summer, I had to pull over to take some photos. It used to be a small fairytale-themed amusement park, designed in 1928 by Austrian architect & set designer Joseph Urban, and was installed next to the Wheatworth Mills factory (later acquired by Nabisco), whose owner F.H. Bennett commissioned the park to be built, inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairytales from his childhood. The park opened to the public in 1930 and was a popular attraction, but closed in the late 1980s due to waning interest and attendance. Although there have been some restoration efforts by successive owners of the site, these have faced challenges and it doesn't look like much has been done. Due to trespassing and vandalism, the property is closed off by a chainlink fence, though you can see it from the road. The buildings have fallen into severe disrepair - which, to be honest, adds to the atmospheric quality - so there are also structural safety concerns to keep out curious explorers. If this has piqued your interest, you can visit a somewhat similar but glossier old-fashioned fairytale themed amusement park of a slightly newer vintage (1950s) that IS successfully renovated and open after a two decades-plus hiatus: Fairy Tale Forest in Oak Ridge, NJ! (See my separate Yelp review for this unique attraction.) It's enchanting, nostalgic, and one of my favorite places in the world. Sort of uncanny like this, but is still operational and less haunting.

The Quickway (NY Route 17) in my books is one of the best convenient highways to travel on,…read moreconsidering its non-toll and is a bypass of the New York State Thruway from Harriman to North East, Pennsylvania. It is well known for traffic in the areas between Harriman to Monticello - sometimes even Liberty. Beyond there, you will find no traffic and hardly any vehicles from that point on, because of its geographical area and its very rural with a lot of valleys, which is the Catskills. The scenery is very touching and fun to look at along the way, which you can't beat. Keep in mind, most of the exits in the area have limited facilities. Once approaching Binghamton, traffic will start to build up with a lot of services. Beyond Binghamton, it becomes the Southern Tier Parkway. Some areas on the Quickway need improvement, in terms of pavement and also widening shoulders, which some of it has been done. Most of the construction that is being done currently and also in the future, which is TBA, is for the designation of Interstate 86. It's a project that's been going on for many many years to upgrade the road to make it a fully interstate highway. There is no answer until when it will be done, maybe never. For now, this roadway holds as one of the most popular places to travel which I truly enjoy.

Glen Wild…read moreRoad is a "main thoroughfare" for the area, but still a one lane road, just one you are likely to travel often if you vacation or live in the area. As you past by Prestis Auction house, and a few rundown properties, you will see this structure. Its clearly a Synagogue from the decorations. But very small. It was built by a local family, and according to Wiki never has had its own rabbi. Its Orthodox. Not quite 100 years old, its in great shape and will make it to 100 for sure. Its been a National Historic Building since 1999. It is still maintained by a small congregation.

The help/reference desk and tech. support in the front of the library is always very helpful and…read morefriendly. However, the environment (AKA ghetto characters) of the library is getting to the point where the people at the front desk can't say "please be quiet" enough to some of the people in here. Don't leave any valuables alone, even if it's just for a few minutes to go to the bathroom. There have been instances of people's cell phones and laptops being stolen from here. There used to be signs, warning people to have eyes on their belongings at all times, but I believe they have been taken down now. There are some shady people walking around, and you will know exactly who they are, because you will hear them before you see them. Most people who come to this library are here to study, read, or do schoolwork, but others come in here to socialize and speak very loudly, so it tends to distract those who have come here to use the library for what its intended uses are.
