Dr. Jennifer Young is an amazing professional with Robotics surgical skills... prior to her move to The Urology Group she was my surgeon at the Veterans Medical Center of Long Beach California... after spending 18 months overseas in Support of "Operation IRAQI FREEDOM III" I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer three years later. In August of 2009 Dr. Young gave this First Sergeant an extension on life by performing the surgical skills of a complete prostatectomy procedure by employing the State of the Art "DaVinci Robotics Surgical Machine". For her compassion the Soldiers of 1/140th 40th Infantry Division General Support Aviation Battalion (Combat) presented her with an American Flag flown over Baghdad during one of many Battlefield Circulation Missions that the unit performed daily. Accompanied the flag was a certificate certifying the Flag of its mission and as a personal thank you for extending their First Sergeant's life so that he may continue to mentor and lead from the front. I've had horrible experience with this practice from day one. I took my one month old daughter in to check her enlarged right kidney and Dr. Lailas told me she would need a renal scan to check if it's obstructed but she had to be over two months before the procedure was performed. So, when the 5 minute appointment was over after waiting 45 minutes past my scheduled time, I went to check out. Scheduled an appointment for her after the two month mark thinking this was the procedure. Fast forward to the appointment, we arrive at the office and once again had to wait 30 minutes before seeing Dr. Lailas. He asked if we had the results of her procedure and I said no. He never gave me an order or a script for a renal scan or tell me where to go to get it done. He just showed me on his screen the dictation of what he suggested. I said, "Yes, I have that paperwork but you never gave me something to get the procedure done. How was I supposed to know where the procedure had to be done and most certainly did not have a note from you ordering the procedure." I don't even remember if there was an apology given, so he walked me to the checkout counter and told the receptionist to write me an order for the renal scan and the location of it to be performed. Sure enough when I get home to schedule the procedure, she gave me the wrong facility! When I tried calling the practice back, they were of course closed so I had to search for the correct hospital on my own. Here I am, two weeks after the procedure was done and Dr. Lailas has not returned my multiple phone calls asking for the results of my daughter's exam since she clearly has an obstructed kidney. This is highly unprofessional the way this practice and Dr. Lailas has handled my daughter's appointments and results. As a concerned parent, I need to know what our next action plan is so we can correct her kidney issue ASAP. read more

After over a year of bladder stone issues, I realized that I needed a repair and I started to research Urologists in my area and reached out to Reston Runners friends for recommendations. I was told that Gregory Schenk with the Urology Group was the person that I was looking for. When I met Dr. Schenk for the first time he asked me to follow him to his office where he explained and showed me one my cat scan images; the bladder stones that were being created by the narrowing of the urethra in the prostate. He then told me that the best plan would be to remove the stones and do a Transurethral Resection of the prostate (TURP). On Thursday Dec.11th. this out-patient procedure was done at Reston Hospital and as of today; the catheter was removed and I'm on my way to a complete recovery. Greg Schenk is in my opinion, a good doctor whos personality and bedside manner make him a good choice if you are in the same boat that I was. read more

Took my son in to see the The Urology Group in Reston about a blister that had shown up on his junk, and did not go away in three months of seeing the pediatrician and them suggesting the "wait and see if it goes away" method. Go to The Urology Group in Reston in March 2015 hoping for an answer, Dr. looks says "not sure what it is, lets see if it just goes away." And we get charged $250 for a new patient visit that took them 10 mins for them to ignore us. April 2015 we go to another Ped Urologistin Leesbrugh, Dr Gibbons (highly recommend) within the first five seconds of our visit explains that the bump is a cyst that will only continue to grow in size and needs to be surgically removed. Scheduled the surgery that same day and finally get to breath easier after getting some actual medical assistance. Would not go back to The Urology Group in Reston under any circumstances. read more

I recently visited Dr. Walter O'Brien at the Urology group in Reston. He is an excellent doctor as he spends a significant amount of time discussing any issues so that you understand exactly what's going on. He's a wonderful doctor with a lot of patience. read more

If I could give this practice which is both in Reston and Ashburn zero stars I would. There administrative staff is horrible. They've dropped the ball on multiple occasions relative to scheduling procedures, calling me back. This last mishap which they won't take accountability for, is going to cost me $1,000 of dollars relative to my insurance claim. They are blaming it on an employee who is no longer with them. News Flash - Its still your business no matter which employee messed up. Have some pride of ownership in it and make things right with your customers! read more

I went to the Urology Group over concerns of blood and blood clots in my urine. I saw Dr. O'Brien. Dr. O'Brian had done Green Light prostate surgery on me 3 years ago. Dr O'Brian took me at my appointed time, discussed the possible causes, and recommended approach. He was clear and patient and took time to explain everything in detail. I have also seen Dr. O'Conner at this location. He is also an excellent doctor. I would not hesitate to recommend the Urology Group to anyone. read more

Everything was great, Dr. O'Brien was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I had zero problems with my pre-op or post-op appointments, and was seen with a minimal wait in both situations. The pre-op was at the Stone Springs Hospital center and the post-op was in the Landsdowne office. The operation itself was in the Landsdowne Surgery Center and was a very smooth process. read more

I'm glad I did not see the previous Yelp reviews before picking The Urology Group. I choose Dr. Schenk based on his personal reviews on other sites. Not sure if the office location matters, but I saw Dr. Schenk at the Lansdowne office Dec 2015. Had a large kidney cyst that needed draining. I decided I was not in enough pain to warrant doing that before the Holidays so I told him I would call when I wanted it done. So in March of this year, I decided to proceed and called back. Dr Schenk does the more complex procedures like robotic surgery, but does not do simple cyst aspirations. An associate of his did the aspiration at the Inova Hospital across the street from the office. Dr. Schenk, his office staff, his associate and all my dealings with the office were professional, timely and helpful. They were also very helpful in making sure my insurance would cover it. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone. But again, I went to the Lansdowne office, not Reston. read more

I would give this practice 0 stars if available. They are more salespeople than caring physicians. I have urinary incontinence due to multiple sclerosis. They marketed themselves to my neurologist as being especially interested in MS, untrue...I went through the exact same paces as anyone who comes in with that complaint culminating in an unnecessary, dangerous surgery to implant a "urinary pacemaker," later to be removed because of sepsis. Years later (and the trauma of being "treated" there, in the past), I know that MS bladder issues are vastly different than other cases of urinary incontinence and that much of what they did, most importantly the surgery to implant and subsequent removal of it, were totally inappropriate. I suffered for over a year under their care. I hope I can save someone from having the miserable experience that I had. read more

This is the WORST practice from A-Z I've ever encountered. We were there for an issue with my child. Kristen Tambourno and Dr Oconnor insisted she was constipated before even examining her. I didn't take no for an answer so they agreed to do an U/S and further concluded there was no structural issue. We went to Hopkins who indeed found a structural issue as well as an issue with a surrounding organ. On top of all of this, both Kristen and Dr. O were rude and impatient. After surgery, I suffered from an issue known as "Urinary Retention". In a great deal of pain, I called my personal physician. He advised me that a catheter was required and told me to call my Urologist, Dr Christopher Starks. I phoned Dr Starks' office and spoke with his nurse Shaneeka. The time was about 2:15PM and I live 15 minutes from Dr Starks' office. Shaneeka told me that Dr Starks would not see me and that I should go to the hospital Emergency Room. read more

Having a hard time scheduling surgery. Ms. bacon does not call back in a timely manner. I am still waiting for her to call. They don't seem to care about your health. If the doctor says you need surgery, and your in pain, you would think they would want to take care of you.. Update: I called and spoke with someone who said they would give my email to someone right else to email me, she emailed me and told me that who said that my message was forwarded to a third person and when i finally spoke with her she wanted to know what my questions were... i didn't even have any questions, i was told to contact the office to resolve this matter and she said "it's very common for them to grow back" and that he has to keep coming in and get it removed... no thanks. So basically I wasted yet another 2 days trying to get ahold of the office just to be told I had to pay the amount we already paid 3 months ago?! And that we should have expected the wart to grow back. This is just such a terrible business. Wendy that i spoke with was nice but it didn't help at all just wasted time as no one even told her why I was calling when I was told to contact them regarding my review. Beware. I hope I can help at least one person stay healthy by avoiding this place. Its a long story for me and I will try to keep it short and not get into too many anatomical details. Last year a nurse did a simple medical test incorrectly and reported the results immediately to the doctor. She then repeated the test, but still counted the first result as valid when it wasn't valid. The first result is in my medical record as a valid test result and it is not correct. The doctor used the invalid result and the result of the second test and said I needed to do a self administered procedure on a regular basis to assure I was processing out enough fluids. They should have done the test a third time but did not before deciding I needed to do this self administered procedure. After a few days of doing this procedure I went back to the doctor with records I kept each time I did this procedure and she then said I did not have to do the procedure after all. However the damage was done as I ended up with an infection from the self administered procedure which traveled to a particular organ causing difficulty emptying fluids and ultimately when it got worse, possible organ damage to my bladder (still under evaluation). Things got worse when a second doctor in the office did a test which flared up my condition. I don't know if he knew what was going on with me and that I had this condition. He said he read my chart. When things flared up, I needed surgery in order to help me process fluids properly. A year later, the surgery is a failure and I need another operation with an outcome that is uncertain due to possible bladder damage. If the nurse had done the test correctly and if the doctor had not rushed to judgement (she seemed too busy to give it much thought), I likely would not have done the self administered procedure and would not have gotten the infection which lead to possible bladder damage and complications with my ability now to process fluids. Right now, I cant travel anywhere as my condition gets worse. I basically can not do much at all. Luckily I can work at my office job as it is close to home. I am now seeing another urologist and he confirmed with me that over time he has gotten a lot of patients who left the Urology group due their incompetency. A few other things to note. I have had prescriptions that were not called in when I desperately needed the medication, medical records that were lost and another test where the doctor did not notify the nurse doing the test of a particular condition I had and the test was then extremely painful to me. The nurse told me the doctor should have noted I had this particular condition, but she did not do that. Also, a nurse sent me home on a weekend with several medical device samples which I was not shown how to use. Luckily I knew better than to use the devices as I could have done some damage. Sending me home with these devices is negligent in my opinion. On one positive note, there is a doctor in that office that I like. He was the doc who caused a flare up for me, but he may not have had good medical records from the other doctor in the office I had been seeing. read more

Sorry this is long, but I ended up in the ER thanks to the Urology Group, and want to explain why. I've been a patient of the Urology Group for six months, recommended by my primary care physician. I've had consultations with two doctors and surgery with one. I think the doctors are very busy, but probably competent and caring. However, the staff is a big problem. I've been instructed to call PAs a few times to get directions on medications, e.g. "should I continue them or not". They return calls at a ratio of about 1:8 (their 1 to my 8). Same is true of the scheduler for a Green Light Procedure I had done. She called and left a vm once, then vanished. Did not return my calls until I contacted the office. A few days later she called back to say she'd been sick and missed a couple days of work...without passing on her duties to someone else! This woman is the link between the patient and surgery and has no one to cover for her! Not even a voice message saying she was out! Needless to say, my pre-op physical was last minute. After surgery, I returned to have my catheter removed. The nurse deflated the balloon and literally jerked it out, without using numbing gel or lubricant of any sort. Recovering from the intense and sudden pain, I asked if I should void before I leave. Her reply was, "You don't have to, but there's the bathroom". I couldn't void. She wasn't around to report this to and hadn't seemed concerned, so I left. I went to work and tried voiding again at 11:30 and again at 1:30. I was unsuccessful both times. The last time I started sweating, had unbearable lower stomach pain, then felt sick and fainted. The EMTs were called. I went by ambulance to Reston Hospital. I tried twice to void at the hospital, but laid back down before fainting. The ER doctor inserted another catheter. Over 1,000 milliliters of urine and blood drained. This all would have been avoided if the Urology Group had followed proper medical procedure when removing the catheter that morning. They've lost my trust completely. read more

I can't say enough in praise of The Urology Group. After a so-so experience with another local urology practice, and at my wife's repeated urging, I finally did a lot of research and got myself switched over to these folks. This was a big deal because my Dad died of metastatic prostate cancer so although I'm not the bravest soul when it comes to submitting myself for major medical procedures I knew I had to get myself under the care of people who would be more engaged with my case. Dr. O'Brien is a great diagnostician who kept me more informed and in the loop than any doctor I'd previously experienced. After tests and a biopsy he confirmed that I had Gleason Score 3+4 prostate cancer and laid out all my options, with surgery being the only truly viable one. Dr. Schenk performed a robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy in early April of this year and barely a week afterward I could hardly believe I had a major 5-hour procedure. The surgery made such an improvement in my quality of life that I suddenly realized how much I'd been troubled with the symptoms of BPH for nearly a decade. And the best part is that seven months out from the surgery I am showing no real evidence of the ED-like persistent side effects traditionally associated with a prostatecomy. Guys, prostate cancer is highly curable IF its caught in time and if you have a family history of PC and live in the DC area I STRONGLY encourage you to get in touch with the folks at The Urology Group. I'm glad I did because now I can look forward to enjoying more years with our new granddaughter. read more

Prior to going to them I had a condition that I had sought various medical attention for 3 months and wanted to get it resolved asap. First appointment a NP thought it was some microplasma issue and gave me meds that were totally ineffective. Second time after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, the Dr. Young had me to do this at home diet and a diary. I had to wait another 3 weeks for another appointment. For my 3rd appointment I left work 30min early, drove 30min to the appointment and then waited over AN HOUR. After 20min I had them check and supposedly she would be ready soon. After 45min they said she was finishing up and was coming to get me. I saw the Dr walk past in the back so I assumed she was getting me. After 1 hour I said tell me right now how long it will be, so she checked and that took a couple minutes and then she said that I could go back to talk to the doctor. The doctor was just sitting doing paperwork in her office INSTEAD of seeing me. I had a 10minute convo that costed $200 which was basically saying nothing was wrong and setup an appointment for another procedure. I still paid the copay too. I had an appointment for 2 weeks and the day before, the surgical facility told me that they had me down an hour before my quoted appointment time from the urology group! What?! If that facility didn't call I would've been there an hour before my appointment. Absolutely dreadful. They don't care about your time, just your money. read more
