I would strongly encourage anyone who is seeking a vasectomy to seriously reconsider. Do your research and fully understand that what you will hear from this practice is a misleading representation of stats and outcomes regarding the risks of this seemingly common procedure. I waited over two years to post this review as I know I can't change my decision, but perhaps I can help others learn from my research. I had a vasectomy done in late 2018 and months later started developing Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome, a condition I was not even aware existed until after the procedure was done. At first these guys were great, they ordered ultrasounds, made time to hear my concerns but once the pain continued and no obvious answers were found, I was referred out for pain management and that was that. Two years later am still experiencing ongoing daily pain that will likely be lifelong despite a reversal earlier this year. I was willing to pay the premium price tag for the individualized attention of the practice, but if you are part of the 15% of men who develop any longterm complications from the procedure--you are on your own because they'll act like PVPS doesn't exist. Welcome to Hell. PVPS affects upward of 15% of men according to a 2016 study. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4854072/) The consequences are lifelong and very difficult to pinpoint. Their consent form is a laughably thin single page document which cites the possibility of some post-operative pain and complication, but PVPS and lifelong pain is mentioned exactly zero times. These guys are great salesmen. You walk in thinking, "It's simple, quick, effective, and has no impact on anything other than fertility and this is white glove service. False. Nowhere does it mention the well documented possibility of PVPS which has been known for decades. Had I been presented with true outcome risks and a true understanding of the longterm impact I would have walked out the door, and you should too. As Warren Buffett famously said, "Never ask a barber if you need a haircut" and never let a urologist sell you on a vasectomy. read more

From the moment we walked in the front door, my girlfriend and I have been very pleased with Obsidian. I am a 35 year old male who has been trying to have a vasectomy for almost ten years now. I had gone to many doctors who told me on each occasion that I was too young and that I should think about it and come back in six months. When I would go back to them I would get the same comments and be told to come back in another six months. I have even been told by one doctor that I should go see a psychiatrist first before getting the procedure. However, I always knew that I wanted to live my life child free. One day my girlfriend came across a site compiled by people on the internet listing doctors who would do a hassle-free vasectomy. I made the call to Obsidian and spoke with Cassandra, Obsidians wonderful Marketing and Operations Director. After a short talk, I had an appointment within that week. My girlfriend and I arrived for the first consultation and were amazed at the professionalism of the staff and beauty of the office space. Obsidian was unlike any doctor's office I had ever been to. Located in a business complex, this office was designed with comfort in mind. We were met by Cassandra at the entrance and were offered something to drink while we waited to see Dr. Marc Richman. She showed us over to a very comfortable "waiting" room, which was more of a lounge, to relax in. Dr. Richman was there to meet us very shortly after. We were led into his office for more privacy. Before Marc even explained to us how the entire procedure would go he gave us time to ask questions, not only about the procedure but about any concerns we might have and even of his background and experiences. He gave us a tour of his facility. By the end of the meeting I felt very comfortable and confident that Obsidian was the health center I wanted to work with for this procedure involving such a delicate part of my body. A week before my procedure, Dr. Richman contacted me to ensure I was ready, and to remind me of the steps that I needed to take before arriving on the day of the surgery. By the time I got to their office on the day of, I was not nervous at all. My girlfriend and I relaxed in a very comfortable prep room with a TV and something to drink. I was given a plush robe and slippers to put on. I felt more like I was at a day spa rather than a doctor's office. When it was time for the procedure I went in to the operating suite and was offered something to watch on a large flat screen TV. I was awake for the entire procedure and felt no pain at all. I talked with Marc the entire time while he performed the procedure. After all was done, I walked back into the prep / recovery room and relaxed for a while in there. I was so comfortable that I didn't even want to leave to go home. At home, I spent the weekend relaxing on the couch and was pleasantly surprised that Marc contacted me twice throughout the weekend to check on me and see how I was doing. The next week when I had a question / concern late in the evening, I sent him a message and he called me right back and answered my questions and put me at ease. That alone shows the excellent relationship between the staff of Obsidian and their patients. I couldn't ask for a better experience. Never once during my visits to their office did I ever feel like I was just a patient waiting in line. The staff of Obsidian always went the extra mile to make me and my girlfriend extra comfortable. If I could give these guys 6 stars I could. I did some research before selecting Obsidian Men's Health and it was down to them and GW for my vasectomy. I have to admit that my two brothers and brother in law had this procedure done in the last 3 years. Two of the three were easy, but one of them had pain for a while. I did not want that to happen to me. I'm glad I picked these guys because it was great all the way around. Dr. Richman and Cassandra met me when I came in they were very accommodating, helpful and knowledgeable from the minute I arrived. I was surprised by how customer focused they were and can say I've EVER experienced anything like this in my life in the medical industry. They followed up periodically the next couple of days to make sure I was okay. I would suggest anyone that is a medical profession to go here just to see how a "patient-first" culture operates. I'm close to two weeks past my procedure and have had no post-procedure pain. Things went smooth and couldn't be happier with Obsidian and don't think they could have done anything more to make me happy. I just had my vasectomy performed on Friday the 9th of December 2016. Dr. Shane Geib and the Staff (Jessica & Karen) at Obsidian is in one word "Fantastic" when they say "the Obsidian Vasectomy is simply the best vasectomy experience available" they were not kidding. I was simply amazed, the procedure was 100% painless and it was just like the way they explained to me, I knew how and what was going to be done and I felt like I was taken care of by "Family". The mood was light and friendly and totally professional my time, dignity and privacy was absolutely respected. I did not need any Tylenol, or pain medications there was no bruises, or any real swelling. I kept an ice pack handy for Friday night and Saturday morning, and I was up and about and active all weekend. If I was not awake for the procedure I would have sworn that it was not done. Dr. Shane Geib, kept in touch with me all weekend to make sure I was feeling great. I am happy I researched this vs the "old School" surgical process requiring anesthesia and hospital admit process. I felt like a guest and was treated like royalty. I must say I was really impressed by the professionalism and care extended to me. The only down side is my insurance did not cover my procedure, but once you consider the deductible you have to meet, the copays, not having to go under general anesthesia (hard to find anesthesiologists that accept my insurance for full payment) and having to go through a full scale surgical procedure with scalpels and needles, anesthesia recovery and a longer painful recovery ............. I have visited Obsidian Men's Health regularly for more than a year, and it has been one of the best health care experiences I've ever had. OMH provides turnkey concierge medical service, which in my opinion is a superior approach to health care. Because it's a concierge service, the doctor's are not rushing people in and out the door constantly. All the other doctors I've seen only seem to want to talk to you for about 10 minutes, write you a script, and then send you on your way. Dr. Richman always takes the time to discuss my treatment, explain everything to me in as much detail as I need, and make sure all of my questions are answered. I've never once felt rushed and often spend between 30-60 minutes for each visit. Aside from the regular doctor visits, OMH nurses also take my blood for any needed lab work. This is much more convenient than waiting in long lines at those local lab networks. They also make calls to my pharmacy on my behalf; calling around to make sure that they either honor my insurance or can provide the lowest prices available for any needed scripts. I wholeheartedly recommend Obsidian Men's Health for continuing care in addition to normal one time treatments. read more

Jessica his nurse has a very soft hand when it comes to drawing blood, and is always cheerful when she frets us. The office itself is nicer than most homes. Obsidian offers a level of care I've never experienced--anywhere. From the consult to the post procedure follow-up, I felt and so did my wife that we were fully informed; no surprises--loved it. I am so thankful I came across Obsidian while doing my research. Dr Geib is the consummate professional with a great bedside manner. He put all my fears to rest during the complimentary, pre-procedure office visit. He explained to me in detail exactly what the no-scalpel vasectomy involved and what I would experience. I have to tell you guys, there was no pain. Only mild discomfort. The ice really helped with the swelling and things were a little tender for a few days. Two weeks post procedure, I was absolutely back to normal with no adverse sensation at all. Props to Arjun for outstanding customer service. I wish I could give Obsidian more than 5 stars, quite simply it was the best medical experience I have ever had. It is everything our medical system should be: informative, efficient, effective and caring. Everyone from Karen to Dr Richman was incredible. Before I even got to the office Karen had already shared the virtually everything that was going to happen with me. She clearly conveyed the price (quite a rarity in medicine) as well as set my expectations for everything from the initial meeting to the procedure. Dr Richman continued the excellent service with our initial consult. He clearly explained the procedure but also took the time to get to know me. His bedside manner is simply outstanding. The procedure could not have been easier, and I was amazed that Dr RIchman handled virtually everything after Nancy prepped me for the surgery. Most important recovery was incredibly easy. What is not to like about sitting on the couch all weekend watching the Master's and drinking bourbon? I was back at work on Monday and back to the gym within seven days. If every procedure were this easy people wouldn't hate our health system. In short, I would highly recommend Obsidian to anyone considering a vasectomy or having any men's health issues.
