    Christmas tree hanger
    Kit Yee Y.

I always drove by this bakery but finally I visited it over the weekend. I arrived around 5pm, so it was the end of the day that they almost sold out most of the cookies and pastries. They have a ticket system, so customers must get a number and wait for a server to call. The bakery has two doors. One is going in and one is exiting due to covid. The bakery has bread, lots of cookies and pastries, and savoury items like veggie and sausage rolls. I bought their Christmas tree hangers which were very cute (see photos) and a couple of sausage rolls. The Christmas tree hangers were ginger bread cookies with chocolate coating and a small Christmas decoration. I am keeping one for myself and give the rest to others. The sausage rolls tasted fine but not super outstanding. I would recommend others to come here if they would like to buy cookies, bread and pastries. They have a wide variety of items. Sometimes I find it's hard to choose when there are so many options. There is free street parking nearby, so it's very convenient.

a birthday cake decorated with purple roses

We ordered a birthday cake and it was so beautifully decorated, especially a sprinkle of gold added another dimension. The butter cream was not too sweet but it was just right. Everyone commented that the cake is so good. The staff (Daniella) who took the order was so kind and patient to explain to me what my options are before deciding. I love this classy Italian bakery in the neighborhood!

I was happy to see that this bakery is still around after being in the same neighbourhood for decades. I had the opportunity to check out the place again after a long absence. They provided an assortment of baked goodies for the holidays - Christmas cake, Christmas stollen, sugar cookies, pastries and cakes. I only bought a loaf of currant bread which was baked to perfection. It had plenty of currants which was still fresh after a couple of days. Not like other bakeries that have a few bits of raisins in each slice. It was under $5 a loaf. I don't mind paying a bit extra if it's good. I wasn't disappointed. They sell an assortment of breads, rolls, cookies, and cakes. Unfortunately, if you're one or two people, it doesn't work if you have to buy 12. They don't offer single quantities to purchase. They also sell vegan products along with frozen puff pastry. My only concern is that it's a small place and having more than 15 patrons inside made me feel a little uneasy with Covid. Too bad they didn't limit a certain number of people inside.

When you walk in your nose is filled up with the aroma of baked goods. I have been going to this local bakery since I was a toddler and this location must be around since the beginning of time. I walk by this bakery and it is very hard to resist not to go in. If you are trying to fulfill your sweet tooth and plan not to count calories this place is always worthwhile to get your bake goods. From chocolate chip cookies to Black Forest cakes (tasty fresh cream) Mocha cake is divine and the seductive vanilla slices - writing this wants me to go back for more - the list is endless. Parking could be tricky if you park there during rush hour and is harder to find. On the weekends it can be busy too, but there is more parking on the side streets. Be prepared to wait, especially during the holidays like Easter and Christmas. Overall I find Valley can be quite busy but it's well worth waiting as it gives you more time to look at more goodies. The ladies that help you there are awesome. I remember when I got there just before closing 6:00 pm one of the ladies that work there had asked me to close the small window above the door on countless occasions - and every time I did I got a free cookie! Is that value added service or what..? I will come back and refrain myself :P Oh one more thing - Bring back the twist cookies!!!!

Valley Bakery is a small family business bakery on Hastings. They have tons of cookies and cakes. I love their strawberry mousse cupcake with dark chocolate shell. It's so light, but bursting with strawberry flavor. The prices are low and they take credit cards too. #30DaysOfYelp 30/30

Vintage style baking from a bakery that's been around for over half a century

I can recommend everything that I've ever purchased here but the list would be very very long. So delicious - classic bakery items. Best rumballs in town.

What used to be twist cookies. Appearances do matter

This was once my favourite bakery by far. Unfortunately things have been been going down hill lately. More and more often the pastries can be stale tasting: even the custom ordered birthday cake. I bought Christmas fruit cake this year and it was so stale that I couldn't even slice it. It crumbled no matter how thick I made the slice. Now they have taken their famous Twist cookies and made them into flat little biscuits. See picture attached. I can only imagine this is an attempt to make them easier and cheaper to make, but appearance does matter. I wouldn't serve these to guests. The store is constantly understaffed and there has been a help wanted sign in the window for months. Sad to see a neighbourhood institution seem to be failing.

This is a bakery located on Hastings. Got a deal on Social Shopper here before in the past and that's how I got introduced to this place. The store is quite big. Parking is ok. Can be hard to find at times. This place is busy and depending what cake you are ordering, you need 1 day advance notice. Got a cake here during Christmas Time. Their egg nog log cake. That was pretty good. Not too sweet and the cake is nice and fluffy. You can taste the egg nog quite well. Once in awhile if I am in the hood I would go and buy some of the buns. If you buy in a bag they are quite cheap. They have a paper numbering system to keep people in their line.

This is hands down the best bakery in town. They use fresh ingredients and real cream because if you let the pastries sit outside for too long, they actually go bad unlike the stuff you get from elsewhere that lasts decades and you know it's because they're loaded with chemicals and preservatives. I am obsessed with their mocha slices, they are to die for. The eclairs and tiramisu cups are also very delicious. They're always super busy so make sure you go on a weekday.

    Kenneth N.

Good little Dutch bakery in the hood, nice to support local. Ordered the lemon cupcakes, $3.45 for 3pcs, albeit tiny ones, is enough sugar lol. friendly service. too bad the eclairs were sold out, but the cream puffs were there. Will have to find a signature winner from here in order to get a 4star.

Over the past year and a bit this has become one of our favourite breakfast places. But it is more…read morethan just a place for breakfast or brunch. It is also a fantastic spot to work if you wanna have a café setting because their pastries and bake goods are absolutely fantastic. In fact last year for Christmas, we bought one of their Christmas cake options which proved to be super popular with the family. What I love about this location is the decor. On one side it is a simple industrial warehouse. But it has that post modern feel with all of the live plants. The live plants is what I love and the tall ceiling for the plants to fully grow. Though if they are looking for something else, which could really bring this to the top, it would be to have a fish tank. A fish and or water feature around the massive plant island in the middle of the dinning area would be chefs kiss. Of course, what about the food? From here, I find the food here is excellent. Sometimes the flavour combinations are a little weird. But that's typical for the Vancouver foodie scene. Vancouver food scene is a fusion hybrid of local ingredients mixed with traditions from cultures from other places around the world. But the bottom line is the portions are a good size. The platters in particular are large and would feed a very hungry person. You definitely get your moneys worth. You don't get much table service once you are done with your order. But that is all right because of it size and volume for the amount of people who come through. I am totally happy with the self serve station, which could be enhanced and the large setting with all of the very mature plants. If I would offer advice to anyone it would be this. If you are going to be there on the weekend arrive before 9 AM. People start lining up at 10 to 15 minutes before the store officially opens. Plus I find is easier to take the street parking rather than playing with Faith trying to back out with customers who are not paying attention.

I did get a spoonful of the glorious whipped cream on top of my daughter's mango croissant. $8.50 Heaven. We thought it was worth every penny! The only gluten free item they offered on this day was a chocolate walnut brownie. Rich and pretty satisfying! We didn't mind a bit waiting for our specialty lattes but the flavors were underwhelming. Snow Velvet Latte $6.20 Double shot espresso, regular milk, vanilla syrup, velvet cream, cocoa dusting. My iced 16 ozs dark chocolate mocha was also not a memorable one. In spite of the unsatisfying lattes and lack of GF items, I'm still fond of the energy that fills in this cafe so I'll probably return.

The menu has shrunk considerably and their business days/hours are also a lot less than what it was previously. The drinks were not as tasty as they used to be. My Blue Rose drink was the best of the bunch and I would say even that was just OK. I enjoyed the Lychee jelly in my drink. That was probably the best part of the drink. The liquid part was kinda "meh" for me. I think the best thing we ordered was the matcha soft serve ice cream. On the flip side, there was a guy playing piano there and they were taking requests. I suggested Demon Slayer and the guy played the famous "Gurenge" song by Lisa from season one of Demon Slayer. That was kinda cool. He was a very good pianist. Great way to liven the atmosphere. Also, there was a guy who came around and gave us all tiny paper cranes. It's nothing much, but still always nice to be gifted with anything at all. Business must be hard for them. It would sure be nice to see them return to how they used to be, with a bigger menu, tastier drinks and more days/hours again. We love this place for the manga/ anime vibes that it exudes, and love the Matcha soft serve ice cream they sell here. Really wanna give this place a higher rating but the drinks were really not up to par this time, and as much as we love the Matcha ice cream, it is not by itself enough to warrant giving out a higher rating. If they could just improve the quality of their drinks again...then even if they menu remains limited, at least if everything they serve is of good quality...that would be enough to merit a higher rating.

I wasn't going to write any reviews because I just don't want to spend time doing it. But when I showed pictures of the cake Cory created for my daughter to my family and friends, I knew I had to write one. I was also reminded by my cousin and sisters about that rip off cake I received last year for my son. The cake we all called the Photocopy cake ( see review for Yummy Yonnie Cakes) But first, let me tell you about CORY'S cakes from HEY CAKE THIS! Cory does not limit the style, colour, theme, flavour, filling or size of the cake. He gives his clients free range. But keep in mind, price will obviously go up the more elaborate your imagination. If you can imagine it. He will create it! I reached out to Cory to get an idea of how much a Poppy cake would be and I even sent a picture I found online to him for reference. I told him to put many flowers and make the cake pink. I wanted strawberry filling, with fresh strawberries and a vanilla cake. Boy did he deliver! The cake I received exceeded my expectations. Everything on that cake was fondant. He cut out all the flowers, the letterings, the number, AND the star of the cake.... POPPY! He made a 2D Poppy! Nothing on that cake was a photocopy image stuck onto sugar paper. Look carefully at Poppy. Her dress, the eyes and mouth. So much details. Cory handprinted some of the details on her too. I commented on his Poppy and how I appreciated him not doing a photocopy image. He told me if the image is not complex he will do all it all freehand. I only gave I'm a week and a half for this cake too! Due to the pandemic, Cory offered free delivery. He wanted to make sure his cake was in the best condition for his clients. Cory is also very considerate. When he arrived, he actually took out a fold up table to place his cake on. He did not want to put the cake on the floor or ground where it could pick up germs. After he put it on the table, he stepped back (social distancing) so that I could take it. The box the cake came in was GOLD with a pink ribbon to complete the look. Did you know he actually MAKES all his boxes the cakes go into? No cheap see through cellophane. But a nice gold colour cardstock box. This is better because if the cake was to be a surprise , the box will definitely keep the cake hidden. My kids recycled the box and make gold cut out starts and crowns for their dolls. Cory is definitely a master cake creator. He will not disappoint. The communication between him and I for the cake was awesome. Before he went ahead with anything he was unsure of, he reached out to me. He wanted to make sure his suggestions was something I would also like. Vancouver is fortunate to have their own 'Duff Goldman'. I regret not having found him sooner to make my cakes. The Photocopy cake was an expensive lesson. Don't go to a place that limits you or brush your feedback off. GO TO CORY from HEY CAKE THIS! You won't be disappointed! I look forward to my two other cakes in the next few weeks! I will post it here as well for everyone to see. His work speaks for itself. All his reviews are excellent. Nothing less than 5 stars. I wish I can give him 10 stars! Cory's custom cakes ARE worth the splurge 1-2 or even 3 times a year! Thank you Cory!
