I always drove by this bakery but finally I visited it over the weekend. I arrived around 5pm, so it was the end of the day that they almost sold out most of the cookies and pastries. They have a ticket system, so customers must get a number and wait for a server to call. The bakery has two doors. One is going in and one is exiting due to covid. The bakery has bread, lots of cookies and pastries, and savoury items like veggie and sausage rolls. I bought their Christmas tree hangers which were very cute (see photos) and a couple of sausage rolls. The Christmas tree hangers were ginger bread cookies with chocolate coating and a small Christmas decoration. I am keeping one for myself and give the rest to others. The sausage rolls tasted fine but not super outstanding. I would recommend others to come here if they would like to buy cookies, bread and pastries. They have a wide variety of items. Sometimes I find it's hard to choose when there are so many options. There is free street parking nearby, so it's very convenient. read more

Prior to the change in ownership... (change in ownership was in July of 2023) recommendation without hesitation! Have gone three times since & this most recent visit near Mother's Day was reconfirmation that the baker/ quality had deviated. The vanilla slices pastry used to be flaky & airy | the custard was no longer smooth & vanilla tasting & the icing on top had a different consistency. That pretty much gives that a . The marzipan note was 'ok'... I'd give that a 7 on a scale of 10. Size seems to have gone down for the value. Also picked up several eclairs & was told that the chocolate consistency was 'meh'...that received a rating of 6 1/2. These pastries all ranged from $7.50 - 7.75 for 2 pieces. After 25 plus years of frequenting... It's sad to say that I wouldn't recommend this bakery. It's just 'fine' & it has lost its way! Still hoping for the best...perhaps the baker can pull up the old recipes. Also, the past 2 visits were not busy. Getting a number from the red dispenser wasn't necessary. We ordered a birthday cake and it was so beautifully decorated, especially a sprinkle of gold added another dimension. The butter cream was not too sweet but it was just right. Everyone commented that the cake is so good. The staff (Daniella) who took the order was so kind and patient to explain to me what my options are before deciding. This is our neighbourhood bakery, we go there often. And my husband is particularly fond of their carrot cake so he asked for one for his birthday. I just tried to order one and they said it wasn't possible, they only do slices. I asked if maybe they could cut a square cake from the slices, like and 8 by 8, and ice that. They said no. That was it, just no. Not helpful at all. The interaction was weird, rude and dismissive. And I know it wasn't the person on the phone, she went back and asked. So the kitchen isn't willing to work with the customer. While we like their products in general, not sure if we're going back after this. read more

I was happy to see that this bakery is still around after being in the same neighbourhood for decades. I had the opportunity to check out the place again after a long absence. They provided an assortment of baked goodies for the holidays - Christmas cake, Christmas stollen, sugar cookies, pastries and cakes. I only bought a loaf of currant bread which was baked to perfection. It had plenty of currants which was still fresh after a couple of days. Not like other bakeries that have a few bits of raisins in each slice. It was under $5 a loaf. I don't mind paying a bit extra if it's good. I wasn't disappointed. They sell an assortment of breads, rolls, cookies, and cakes. Unfortunately, if you're one or two people, it doesn't work if you have to buy 12. They don't offer single quantities to purchase. They also sell vegan products along with frozen puff pastry. My only concern is that it's a small place and having more than 15 patrons inside made me feel a little uneasy with Covid. When you walk in your nose is filled up with the aroma of baked goods. I have been going to this local bakery since I was a toddler and this location must be around since the beginning of time. I walk by this bakery and it is very hard to resist not to go in. If you are trying to fulfill your sweet tooth and plan not to count calories this place is always worthwhile to get your bake goods. From chocolate chip cookies to Black Forest cakes (tasty fresh cream) Mocha cake is divine and the seductive vanilla slices - writing this wants me to go back for more - the list is endless. Parking could be tricky if you park there during rush hour and is harder to find. On the weekends it can be busy too, but there is more parking on the side streets. Be prepared to wait, especially during the holidays like Easter and Christmas. Overall I find Valley can be quite busy but it's well worth waiting as it gives you more time to look at more goodies. The ladies that help you there are awesome. I remember when I got there just before closing 6:00 pm one of the ladies that work there had asked me to close the small window above the door on countless occasions - and every time I did I got a free cookie! Is that value added service or what..? I will come back and refrain myself :P Oh one more thing - Bring back the twist cookies!!!! read more

I've been coming to this bakery since the early 70's. Unfortunately under the new management they have decided to not make the little cheese scones. We would make a special trip just to get them. The brown eye cookies are also not the same the chocolate tastes different and you can taste either baking powder or baking soda afterwards. Unfortunately I doubt we will be back it's to far to drive for us to be disappointed. Service was very good and prices are good though. read more

Both times we ordered last minute or right before they close. Maybe that's why everytime I take a bite it's dry?? I am not sure if it's a little dry because it's been sitting around for a day but I'm used to eating cake when it's a little moist inside. This was once my favourite bakery by far. Unfortunately things have been been going down hill lately. More and more often the pastries can be stale tasting: even the custom ordered birthday cake. I bought Christmas fruit cake this year and it was so stale that I couldn't even slice it. It crumbled no matter how thick I made the slice. Now they have taken their famous Twist cookies and made them into flat little biscuits. See picture attached. I can only imagine this is an attempt to make them easier and cheaper to make, but appearance does matter. I wouldn't serve these to guests. The store is constantly understaffed and there has been a help wanted sign in the window for months. Sad to see a neighbourhood institution seem to be failing. read more

This is a bakery located on Hastings. Got a deal on Social Shopper here before in the past and that's how I got introduced to this place. The store is quite big. Parking is ok. Can be hard to find at times. This place is busy and depending what cake you are ordering, you need 1 day advance notice. Got a cake here during Christmas Time. Their egg nog log cake. That was pretty good. Not too sweet and the cake is nice and fluffy. You can taste the egg nog quite well. Once in awhile if I am in the hood I would go and buy some of the buns. If you buy in a bag they are quite cheap. They have a paper numbering system to keep people in their line. read more

This is hands down the best bakery in town. They use fresh ingredients and real cream because if you let the pastries sit outside for too long, they actually go bad unlike the stuff you get from elsewhere that lasts decades and you know it's because they're loaded with chemicals and preservatives. The Pumpkin Chiffon and the Pumpkin Mousse did not have pumpkin flavour; just spice. They were both very light but the mousse was more creamy with less spice. The main difference between the two was one had a chocolate tart shell and the other one had sponge cake. For the Tipsy Cake, the marzipan was too sweet but the apricot filling tasted okay with a hint of rum. They had two kinds of Tiramisu. One named Tiramisu Torte and the other one named Tiramisu. The Tiramisu Torte was not available so I bought the Tiramisu. When I reached home, I realized that my cake was actually named Mocha Tiramisu and not Tiramisu as I found the pictures online. The cream that garnished my cake was made with mocha (as described online) but actually tasted like plain coffee, and the sponge cake with mocha syrup (as described online) actually tasted like pure chocolate, confirmed that my cake was not Tiramisu as what the name tag indicated in the store, which was supposed to be garnished with fresh cream and made with sponge cake using coffee syrup. The Mocha Tiramisu would be worth its value if there was more rum in the cream cheese. Still, I had not bought what I wanted because I was deceived by the name tag in the store. read more

There was a nice selection of baked goods and desserts to choose from. I ended up choosing a random assortment for a party I was attending. I found the prices to be reasonable. They also started selling French macarons. I skipped that as I can see they were not well made and had the bumpy texture. I am sure it must have tasted good but the baker needs more practice when there are other bakeries selling beautiful macarons in the area such as Chez Christophe. All the goodies that I bought were great though as everyone at the party finished the goodies and I would recommend anyone to stop by if they are in the area. I really enjoy their cookies as well. Customer service was great. Staff was very patient as I made my selection. When I asked what what popular, she said "everything." That might or might not be that helpful for some. I ended up picking random flavours/goodies. Staff knew how to pack everything nicely in a box and tie the box securely with a string. It made traveling a bit easier as well. read more

Giving this place a one star I would even give it a zero star it's not because of the food not because of the selection of the bakery which is absolutely awesome! The issue I have and continue to have every time I come to the store during the pandemic is the staff are not wearing gloves!!!!! Tried their molten tofu bowl and it had a pretty good black bean sauce but I got to say it was a bit over the saltier side... Its seems that the food is health oriented as the wilted kale in the bowl wasn't seasoned (theres plenty of sauce, though). The tofu was so good, kinda had a cheesy-paneer texture to it. I could not resist to tried their treats so I got a vanilla cupcake for $4 and it was baller. Delicious, moist and substantial. I don't know why there are all these good reviews on the baked goods, pastries and cookies here. I have purchased different things over the past 4 years ( hoping each time it was an off day) such as: cake slices, sugar cookies, choco chip cookies, muffins, cinnamom buns - and let me tell you, they are not good. I prefer Safeway baked items over Valley Bakery. As some of the other reviewers mentioned, some items taste stale. For me: Cinnamon buns with no cinnamon taste?! dry and hard with fake sugary lines on top ( not even a good drizzle to cover the buns) and buns are stuffed into sad plastic bags which you bag vegatables so the buns get stuck inside, the muffins dry/crumbly with barely any filling at all ( eg. fruit muffins with streusel: fruit being only a sad dot of fruit on top with plain muffin dough inside.), Cookies were hard as rocks- I can probably bake better at home but I was lazy and desperate while out. I also ordered a birthday cake, asked for black forest but there was no cherry filling through out the cake- only a small dinky circle of cherry pie filling ( from a can it tastes like) on top of the cake. I don't know about you but a slice of cake should have a bit of everything in every bite otherwise, why call it a black forest cake? just call it a plain bland chocolate cake with whip. The only things that are ok and passable in taste are the lemon tarts, and sausage rolls. Frozen pizza dough is decent to take home to make a pizza with the kids. AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! My sister bought a tiramisu cake and when she got home she dropped it on the floor. Since she knew it was her own fault she called the bakery to ask if they have any more because she dropped hers and needs to replace it. They told her to bring in the dropped cake and they would replace it no charge! She tried arguing with them that they didn't need to do that since it was her fault but they insisted. Even when she went back and tried to pay for it they wouldn't take her money. That is customer service and way to guarantee a customer for life (even though they have plenty!) The tiramisu cake was light and not overly sweet. It went great with my coffee. A nice little treat after a very long week! I purchased 4 dozen cookies since we were going to a bbq and just chose a random selection. None of them disappointed. My favorite will always be the puff twist. Layers of puff pastry with a sugar coating on the top. So yummy!! There oatmeal bar is great as well. Oatmeal cookies are my favorite and I always buy some when I go on a weekend. I've bought it in the middle of the week before and it wasn't as fresh and good but still yummy. This is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. I didn't really have a reason to go here until recently when I was in charge of the cake for my friend's birthday. And I though, well if I'm in charge of it, then it's going to be the best damn birthday cake ever. And I instantly thought of Valley bakery because I've heard so much about it from others. I special ordered a cake and I think I was one of those pick y customers. But they stayed really patient with me as I tried to decide whether I wanted nougat or chocolate butter cream frosting, and asking if they had any frosting samples to aid my decision making. In the end they actually sliced a tiny bit off of one of their cake squares in the display for me to try the frosting and it was definitely one of the best cakes ever! It was not too sweet, fluffy, airy, and the frosting was creamy, not too sugary. Everything was made with fresh ingredients and the quality was apparent. I ended up ordering a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting in between the 3 layers and the Hazelnut Nougat frosting on the outside. Everyone at the birthday party complimented the cake! I think I will be getting the train-shaped cake for my 4 year old cousin's birthday coming up next. There is an abundance of baked goods that greet you as you waltz through the doors of Valley Bakery. I suppose the first question anyone would ask is how fresh the items are, followed by how often they sell out. Every baked good from cookies to cupcake looked appetizing. My girlfriend and I settled for three cupcakes just to sample the fine works of the baker. I was turned off almost immediately because the lady who was handling cash a moment before, was now handling my food with bare hands. Furthermore, after plucking each cupcake off the tray, she carried all of them by hand to the till. Just as I was paying, she wiped the icing off her fingers onto her apron before handling my cash. I digress. The cupcakes were bland, excessively sweet with a very heavy icing sugar. For a lighter and "healthier" option, I think I'll stick to the ones I can find at Safeway. read more
