Great family restaurant. The story of the family on the menu sharing simple family recipes. Servers are always very nice. I only get take out but, the food is abundant and served quick. I have enjoyed all of the enchiladas cheese beef and chicken. They have a very different enchilada sauce not sure the secret but, has rich chicken flavor possibly bean as a thickener. The beans are refried possibly with lardo which I appreciate. Been here 3 times so far. I can't recommend the Vazquez. It feels like white washed Mexican food, options are limited. I ended up getting a burger which, to be fair, was good but who goes to a Mexican restaurant for a burger. The reason I order it was the rest of the menu was limited. Only beef or chicken tacos. Queso tastes like it comes out of a can. Service was also subpar. I would recommend you go any number of other more authentic places in town. read more

We just happened here by chance and so glad we did. The food was so good. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Some of the things that stick out to me was that when she brought out tea she also brought us each a cup of ice. This is huge to me because I am an extra ice type of person. The chips were delicious! My husband and I recently visited this restaurant on our way thru town. The reviews were decent on the food and service, but honestly we were expecting better. It's a "sit wherever you want," kind of place, which would've been nice to know if there had been any signs. While our waitress was quick as was the time for our food to come out, the food brought out was not what we ordered. There were 2 waitresses, and maybe 5 tables occupied. I ordered a taco salad with no tomatoes and my husband ordered the Jesus plate with 2 enchiladas and 2 crispy tacos, he asked for shredded chicken. The taco salad came out in a bowl with like 7 chips surrounding the food, and it had tomatoes. My husband's crispy tacos were beef, not chicken. We didn't bother on asking for the food to be taken back. The waitress came back with our bill for a little over $30.. we had water and an ice tea as well. I feel this was way overpriced and for as slow as it was when we put in our order, I would've thought our orders would've been correct. Horrible first impression, don't think we'll ever go back to this place again. read more

I'm amazed that this restaurant does the volume with such a small menu. Some restaurants you eat at have an extensive 6 or 8 panel menu. These guys keep it "short and sweet". The restaurant is very clean and looks good inside and out. The food... well... it was ok. I can definitely say I have had much better. Let me start with what I did like. The tostada was actually quite nice. The beans and guacamole were well salted and tasted good and the shell held up till the last bite, (and that's a plus). The beans were pretty good, the rice was heavy handed in the garlic, but not too bad. I got the plain cheese enchiladas and the sauce was very confusing... it tasted like peppered gravy covered in cheese... definitely not something I would order again. The queso, I was not impressed with... it was an odd cheese with salsa, tomatoes and so many onions stuffed into it... another thing I would definitely not get again. The salsa was ok, but it was mostly tomatoes and not a lot of much else. But, chips and salsa do not come with your meal, (that I found very strange for sure). Overall, the meal was about 2 stars, but I'm rounding up to 3 for cleanliness, atmosphere and the lovely waitress and staff. At most restaurants, little thought is given to the rice and beans. At New Vasquez, the sides of rice and beans are light and fluffy and fresh and could stand alone. The cheese enchiladas are the best I have ever had. (Sorry, Mom.) The service was attentive but not smothering. Our sever was Bri. She guided us in our selections and was most helpful. We absolutely love the food! It is all made fresh and you can tell the difference. They even make their own chips and their own shells which are so delicious and crispy. My husband says it's the best taco salad he's ever had and I love their tostados; the guacamole one is my favorite. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are all very nice and friendly. Oh!! Don't be fools by "Enrique's" recommendation...Enrique is the owner. The food is terrible as is the service. Locals hardly ever eat here which is why it's completely empty all the time. Uvalde is a small town with limited food/dining options other than fast food. Vasquez is hands down the best restaurant in town! The restaurant was recently renovated and has a bright, well lit interior. The service is excellent and prices are reasonable. This is a family owned business, so all food is fresh and hand prepared. And it's BYOB! Bring your own wine or beer to make for a lovely lunch or dinner. Cant wait to go back for the enchiladas read more

All of the food was tasty and fresh- you can tell the food is made with simple and pure ingredients, without a lot of additives or grease. Everything tastes homemade and authentic. I have lived in Uvalde for 46 years and have never eaten at Vasquez for the reason that the parking lot was always empty. I never witnessed any form of advertisement. Recently there has been advertising over the radio and that peeked my interest. I ordered there self proclaimed enchiladas. I'll give them credit, they are very good. BUT!!!! There rice is bland and dry. There refried beans are also bland, dry and pasty. There presentation is very sad and bland. Last but not least, there prices are outrageous. Just had a fabulous lunch at The New Vasquez Restaurant and left with smiles on our faces. The food was so fresh and tasty, the restaurant interior is bright and cheery, and the staff and owners are over the top nice. We'll be back for sure. I have a very restrictive diet and found the sirloin taco salad was not only tasty, but met my restrictions. My husband loved his chicken tacos and the chips and salsa too. The food is good but not knowing if you are going to get turned away, for whatever reason, is very frustrating. Especially when you realize they are turning people away after only 5 tables in the entire restaurant are filled. DO NOT EAT HERE EVER!!!! Should've listened to the other reviews. We went through town after evacuating from a hurricane and the man in this place has a horrible attitude. He made it clear he didn't want children in there by threatening and disciplining my child who was only sitting in his seat. We hadn't even ordered anything yet. I have never had anyone talk to my family the way he did. If you hate children then have a sign up banning them. I'm surprised any decent person will give this place their business. Not sure what the locals see in the place nor would I take "Enrique's" recommendation to eat here. For a Sunday church crowd, the owner and one waitress was to serve. The wall of celebrities are more impressive than the overall experience I had here. I ordered the soft chicken tacos, which were more like "taquitos " and had to order a side of beans that were extra. If you're looking for the customary chips and salsa while you're waiting (which was a long wait) you'll have to order that as well.
